The assistance of escape allowed a breath of relief. Her body continued to tremble, but his positivity helped. She swallowed roughly at the thought of what could have happened, but became relieved at the sight of the buster sword on his back. He was prepared to fight if worse came to worst. Sure, she could whip out some martial out moves of her own, but with creatures like that, she wouldn't stand a chance.
She saluted the SOLDIER, a smile crossing her features as she nodded. He's right, it was quick thinking, even if she didn't have an escape. "My names Tifa Lockhart," she introduced. "The best guide that Nibelhiem has!"
Even when she didn't know the full dangers.
She couldn't hold back her laugh at his comment about the scents of town. "Well," she started quickly, close behind him. "If we get back in one piece, I'll treat you to one of those meals that smell so good to you!"
"Oh MAN! Promises, promises~ I'll hold you to that! Come on, let's not dawdle!" Speaking to her as he did had some purpose behind it other than the fact that he really wished to partake in the meal she mentioned. It was also to bring her back on level after the panic of the previous dire moment. They were certainly not out of the woods.
"Stay close to me as possible. Those flying creatures are NO joke. They'll catch you up before you even knew it." Speaking lightly of the situation, but also sprinkling a bit of realism into it was a healthy balance. He didn't want to frighten her beyond her capacity to handle it, but he also needed her to know their situation.
It wasn't great.
Thankfully, she wasn't sharing company with just anyone~ He was Zack Fair, extraordinaire~ She would be getting out of the dangers just fine if he had anything to say about it.
"What're you doing up here anyway? Not guiding, right?" Was there someone else he should be lookiing out for?
Tifa made sure to stay close to the man, some moments where she would even cling to his arm whether it be out of fear or reflex. She had never met a SOLDIER with such a positive attitude, it almost took her off guard. But if they made it out of there like he made it seem, she was a woman of her word. She’d cook for the man for week if it meant they got out safely.
It was true - if there was one fiend in the area , there were undoubtedly more nearby. With a hard swallow and nodded , proving that she was understanding the implications of the situation. She had heard a lot about SOLDIER and was wondering if she’d get to see him in action, though hoping at the same time that it would need to happen.
As they continued along, his question almost caught her off guard. She scratched the back of her head nervously, but couldn’t lie. “We’ve been hearing weird sounds coming from the reactor in town,” she was cautious with her choice of wording. “No one from Shinra showed for weeks when we asked, so I wanted to come see what it was for myself.”
Even if she didn’t get as far as she hoped, she was still curious and was tempted to still risk the trip. “Maybe you can help me figure it out.”
It was rare she had a moment alone with Cloud like this. Something she always enjoyed, appreciated. Tending to wounds while running the bar had her running ragged, but she was glad to see him on his feet, in his usual spot. She had known that he was working on more than a few projects, including Denzel's bike. She loved that they were finally getting time together. Seeing him outside of his usual attire even made her more relaxed.
The look in his eyes was a soft one, one she didn't often see on his expression. She mirrored his smile butt hen eyes flicked to the little red box. Delicately taking the box in her hand, she flipped open the lid and a breath was stolen as her jaw fell. Ruby hues met with that of mako and Tifa's face lit up. "When did you become so thoughtful?" she teased.
She took the necklace in her hand, hanging it by the chain as she observed the stone that hung at the end. It was something too nice to wear on a regular day at the bar. "I think we need to go out," she commented. "It'll give me a reason to wear this."
His shoulders relaxed at Tifa's expression of delight and his smile broadened. Just a brief flash of teeth. Upon purchasing it, Cloud thought that maybe the necklace was... too much, somehow. He had convinced himself he was foolish with that line of thought once he took it home and admired it a bit. It was well worth the price paid although it'd taken nearly a week for him to find an opportunity to present it to her, having left it sitting in the top drawer of his desk for much too long.
She deserved something nice. Something just for her.
"I'm always full of thoughts." He paused for a beat then asked with his eyes fixed on the necklace, "Do you have any place in mind that you want to go?" Ah, maybe a dinner date? There was a new restaurant in Edge that he'd been hearing a lot of talk about. Apparently their pasta dishes were family recipes and the sauces were all made from scratch with fresh ingredients. "The restaurant that opened recently sounds good," he said, throwing the suggestion out there for her to consider.
Tifa could feel the warmth of intention as she held the necklace up again, taking in the beauty for just a moment. It was beautiful, simple, and sleek. Her eyes left the necklace to meet him as he asked about the date. She tapped her chin with her free hand and took a minute to think.
She hadn’t heard of the new place he mentioned, but it never hurt to try something new. Offering a nod to agree, she leaned against the counter and lips crawled into a smile. “It’s a date.”
Tifa thought for another moment, her mind playing through her closet like a record. Eyes lit up at the idea of the perfect thing to wear. It excited her, having the chance to get out with someone for a bit. It had been a while, the bar becoming a place of dull routine. “I heard Lovless was playing tonight too,” she pursed her lips. “Would you want to go see it?”

I think she didn’t think she would die at all, but that she planned on coming back all along. She always used to talk about the ‘Next time’. She talked about the future more that any of us…
Happy birthday Barret!
It all happens so quick, Tifa is hardly able to keep up with what was happening. When she heard his commands, she did as told, holding tight to him as they moved forward. Once they had broken past the gusts, she could finally see the silver haired man clearly, though hardly able to catch her breath. The sword pointed at them is lowered while he pridefully shares a laugh.
Tifa feels a panic in her chest, her body freezes as Zack stands between them. Bright green hues flashed to the both of them, words ringing in their ears.
“You can run but you can’t hide.”
And as if it were more of a warning than a threat, the former hero vanished and the wind calmed. Eyes wide, the woman collapsed to her knees with a mix of relief and shock. Her. Idk continued to tremble and breath skipping as she glanced up to the knight. “W-what - who was that?” The mere power alone they radiated could send anyone running.
Tifa tried to clench her fists but her hands were too clumsy from nerves. She held herself, sealing roughly as she pictured the man she heard called Sephiroth. Could it really be the same that destroyed the royal family? Wasn’t he presumed dead?
Rage shakes through his quivering body, large arms tightly embracing the smaller woman until he's decided they're safe enough and even then his grasp around her is loose, head turned to glare at the silver haired warrior with the anger of a man that didn't have much to lose. He takes a deep breath, fists clenching as if he'd be able to handle the taller man in a brawl knowing well enough the masamune would easily rend through his flesh before he got the chance to land a blow.
Teeth bare briefly, sharp canines a warning that he won't lay down and die with ease but would rather risk death just to get a hit or two in to protect Tifa, to achieve his goal even if it meant losing his life. It didn't matter much to Zack, a knight's devotion ran deep after all and he was not any better than any knight before him. He pauses, watches Sephiroth vanish then turns his gaze back to the raven haired woman, swiftly kneels before her with an apologetic expression.
“ Someone who's supposed to be a corpse. ” He grumbles, hand gently resting upon her back in some attempt at a soothing gesture. “ Sephiroth... Shit he should be dead, I don't... We need to get going now before he decides to toy with us some more, I need my sword if I'm gonna ensure you're safe. ” And that's what bothers him the most, the fact he was unarmed and couldn't properly keep Tifa as safe as he'd have liked. Zack wasn't a man that liked fleeing a fight, it was better to kill the threat than run away because then at least the threat wouldn't be a concern anymore.
There's a gentle sigh finally, “ C'mon, can you stand on your own? I can carry you back if need be, that was... Intense, had me shaking in my boots so I can't imagine how you're feeling. I'm... Sorry, I should've had my sword. ” And he means it too, feels utterly horrible for his miscalculation.
She didn’t meet eyes with him again until he spoke, gathering her nerves enough to stop the shaking. The gentle support of his muscular hand allowed her to lean back and catch her breath. She processes the information, none of it sounding real. When Sephiroth stood near, she could feel the power he exuded, even the air feeling heavier. She couldn’t imagine someone with that kind of power even as she witnessed it.
Tifa nodded as she agreed; it wasn’t wise to stick around with the risk of someone like that lingering. She swallowed roughly, fists and jaw clenching tight. She wouldn’t allow her fear to keep her in place. “Let’s.. Lets go,” she managed. Being anywhere but there would be preferred.
She shook her head, assuring Zack she could stand, even if it took her a moment. “You shouldn’t be sorry,” she insisted. “We’re okay for now and that’s what matters.” How would Zack have known what was to happen? Tifa merely kept the thought to herself - what did Sephiroth want with them?
Once standing again, Tifa turned to Zack and wrapped her arms around him. Her embrace was warm, tight, but not long. She pulled away after a soft “thank you” in his shoulder and the cleared her throat. “Let’s get going.”
And so she started to the inn.
