Hey tumblr fam, first off I just wanna say thank you so much for all the support over the years. Y’all over here at Petragraphy have been following me since literally the beginning, you’ve seen all of my progress and growth over the years. So thank you so much for the love, finally for the first time my work will be showcased in a gallery, and prints will be sold! Fair warning, it is a gallery so the prices are up there but worth it in my opinion, BUT regardless, my work will be printed. I have five pieces being shown at the gallery and if you’re in the Newark, New Jersey area, please come buy and show some love and support! The address is 73 Market Street, Newark, NJ 07102

Share My World

Curated by Sharde Hickenbottom July 14th – September 8th, 2018 Opening Reception July 14th 7-10pm Gallery Aferro Main Gallery

What it means to be a human being is often hard to define. Images coming from the western hemisphere, have often associated black women with servility, enragement, and unattractiveness. The continuous consumption of these narrow-minded images leads to a world programmed to identify that demographic in those ways. What is required to reverse this line of thinking is inclusive and diverse subjectivity.

The idea behind Share My World is about resisting the complacency in visual representation within American art. The show brings together a group of artists interested in challenging antiquated conceptions of beauty and sensuality. This group of artists are in pursuit of seeing more, unrestrained, diverse images of black women.

Thoughts on bryant eslava's photography?

Uh so honestly until you sent me this I didn’t know who this was and um… It seems in bad taste to comment on someone else’s photography but in my honest opinion it’s kind of boring to me? Actually it’s very boring and very white and very abercrombie and fitch, very iphoneography circa 2012-14 :/ Very west coast with open space and not really my style.

I feel like I've asked you a million photography questions so feel free to tell me to fuck off but do you have any recommendations for books/magazines/videos/ blogs that help boost your photography skills? Your work is so gorgeous and professional.

i’m sorry i’m so late i haven’t had new material so i’ve kind of ghosted on here lol, literally never apologize for talking to me i love it, also thank you so much! so honestly not really on my personal blog i have an art inspo tag but honestly i’ve noticed a large portion of my inspiration and references have come from movies more so than like magazines and books, i’ve tried to look in magazines for inspiration but the majority of the time i’ll find the photos repetitive and even boring or sometimes just out of my artistic element if that makes sense, i’ll list some of the movies/videos/etc and the pics that resemble them the most for you though

those are the main three that i can think of with like direct similarities lol, something i noticed is that a lot of my stuff resembles movies i’d watched a child and had never noticed until i’d see them again recently and automatically see picture of mine lol, so mainly movies because a lot of my work has a cinematic vibe to it, music videos and video games, also dreams

I’ll be revisiting landscapes so get ready for that and whatever.
