Hi!! Wrist locks are incredible painful and pose high risk of damaging the wrist even between consenting sparring partners who can tap out at any time!

In Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, it is illegal to wrist lock anyone below blue belt and anyone in the juvenile division!

We need to be pissed about this

Friendly reminder of the night that if you're trans and fat, you shouldn't feel obligated to lose weight to pass. You can be fat and femme, fat and masc or fat and androgynous, and you don't even need to "pass" if that's not what feels most comfortable/safe for you. You're no less trans or worthy of respect.

Its your skin, and the only person that it needs to bring comfort to is YOU. Not anyone's notion of gender.

Our rent was increased to over 2x the pre-covid amount. Only two of the eyes on the stove work, the fridge is about to go out, there is mold in both bathrooms and the AC unit, only two out of seven windows in the apartment stay up by themselves, the front door is misaligned and shakes during strong winds, the backdoor has to be forced open when you want to use it and rain gets in causing the kitchen to get wet (bottom door frame is rotten), holes in the roof, cabinets are falling apart, removed garbage disposal, does not replace or fix ceiling fans, electrical issues cause power to go out, cracks in ceiling, etc. This is all I can remember as of now.

My problem with the Percy Jackson show is they’re clearly trying to cater to a specific audience but they don’t even know which audience they want to cater to.

I’m all for the show trying to capture a new audience in people who haven’t read the books, that’s great, but they don’t seem to know how to actually do that.

The book does a great job being for young readers while never holding their hands when it comes to how generally complicated Greek mythology is, especially since Rick loves to delve deeper into in than just gods and monsters… the show however spends half of its time having Grover lore dump to the audience about the simplest detail, making it feel as if it’s trying to capture the demographic below the one the books are intended for.

At the same time as all of this they’re trying to do so much fan service and rectify the issues people had with the movies, but never fully committing, making scenes feel underdeveloped yet over-explained. These two issues make the show feel inaccessible to new fans and annoyingly slow to old fans.

The mattress store scene in Episode 7 is a perfect example. The episode starts with Percy walking into a random store we know nothing about, lore dumping information at the only other guy in the room who already knows that shit so clearly it’s just for the audience, before declaring he is evil and defeating him before anything negative can happen. To book readers we recognize the store and the store owner, but are left underwhelm at how incorrect the scene is portrayed compared to the book, and to new fans what the hell even just happened???? The Lotus Casino also suffers from the same issues.

There are some great parts of the show… the main trio is doing a great job with their roles. But oh my dear god the show feels like someone who read Percy Jackson twenty years ago is trying to describe it to a room of preschoolers who just started nap time.

rip book charon guess we'll never see his nice Italian suits and percy telling him to join a union and ask for better wages he was reduced to such a basic bitch I know he'd be so upset to find his show counterpart in that basic ass grim reaper robe

Honestly I would’ve rather they left Crusty’s out all it did was make me more annoyed how the trio have to know everything. Like it would’ve made sense for them to know what the DOA was ahead of time but crusty’s??? Why can’t they just be silly ignorant 12 year olds who make mistakes and get tricked?? It just rubs me the wrong way that there is no mystery or suspense, and I think immediately knowing everything is attributes to the rushed pacing

i can’t put into words how much i despise the once again unnecessary plot drama of annabeth getting separated from percy and grover because she’s rooted by her regrets to the fields of asphodel because what the fuck? i just KNOW rickald’s alluding to her relationship with her “family”, once again undermining the neglect she suffered and why she’s completely justified in never wanting to reach out to them again. she can certainly long for her family and wish things had turned out differently and yearn to have been wanted, as revealed by the sirens, but to imply she feels some sort of culpability and regrets leaving her situation or not keeping in contact with her father who clearly could not care less at that point…ricky when i catch you ricky. her only regrets better be being shorter than percy, letting him drive that car, and not raiding the waterland gift store

so that episode was awful

why is percy all knowing??? he just knows who crusty is?? that is so unrealistic and different from his book counterpart.

1. percy knows basic greek myths along with a few obvious monsters. he’s constantly asking who different monsters are and is confused most of the time - this is a big part of the books because he actually learns things normally wherein the show he just knows shit for no good reason (it also makes it super boring to watch bc if it’s not exciting to percy, it’s not exciting to the audience).

2. it’s pretty important for his development as a character and the story that he’s an idiot

and how tf did he just know it was kronos all along??? that is such a strange conclusion to come to given that there was NO EVIDENCE AND ITS THE MOST RANDOM THING EVER (show wise)

i hate how they all just know everything and the traps aren’t really traps. you can’t have a good story without good conflict, and you can’t have good conflict if your characters are geniuses who know every myth ever and every weakness of every monster.

if they were to cut anything from the book, it should’ve been crusty’s waterbeds. idk why they had that in there if percy was just going to explain who he was and that’s really about it. the underworld isn’t even connected to the store in the book?????

they make dumb plot changes that don’t need to be made; ex. four pearls and percy finding the bolt in his bag before hades

poseidon is british for some reason (idk that just makes no sense)

one gripe i’ve had from this show from the beginning is how there’s so much telling and very little showing. we spend so much time talking about things that either aren’t relevant or are unnecessary. this really gets me bc everything else that actually is important is rushed because of it. the storytelling in the show is just overall terrible compared to the book. every good writing element was snatched away for the show. the info dumping is actually crippling (speaking of crippling, why tf is hephaestus not crippled and ugly? that contradicts the myth itself????).

i read these books when i was ten, and they were very special to me. as a book reader, i see a ton of flaws in the show. as a writer, i see a ton of flaws in the show. i really can’t imagine how non-book readers enjoy this show because i don’t think it would make sense to them, and because of all the other reasons about poor storytelling and whatnot.

anyway i’m mad about these things and the little things as well because we were promised a book accurate show, and this is just not it.

me convincing rick to let me rewrite the entire thing:
