Male Idolization in ACOTAR
Has anyone else realized certain parts of this fandom are absolutely obsessed with the Bat boys as dads and as uncles? I've even seen them for the other high lords, Lucien, and Varian. Full-on pages worth of headcanons and fanfics of them, but almost none of the women?
Don't get me wrong there's nothing wrong with imagining those headcanons, it's cute. But we've almost hit a point, where we've started to put these men on pedestals for learning to braid hair for their future daughters or teaching them to fight. Also, them being "overprotective males in their daughters/nieces' life" isn't cute, it's patriarchal and problematic. This whole girl!dad fetishization has gotten out of hand.
Why shouldn't High Lady Feyre Cursebreaker teach Nyx to fight? How special would it be for Feyre, who's been illiterate almost her whole life, to teach Nyx to read? For it to become commonplace for Nyx even as an adult to ask his mother to read to him because her voice is that soothing and comforting to him.
For Nesta, who has a fear of becoming as cold as her mother, to sit each night at her daughter's dresser braiding her hair and teaching her that beauty is internal as much as it is external? For her daughter to admire her mother's loyalty to her friends/family and wanting to be just like her when she grows up?
For Elain, whose kindness and softness has been viewed as a weakness, to teach her warrior son to garden. That it's completely ok to want to fight, but there's strength in learning to do something as gentle as growing flowers.
These women are phenomenal and deserve their credit.
