Are you normal, or do you still hear " WHAT A PERFORMANCE. WHAT A COMEBACK. A FERRARI 1-2, HEADED BY CARLOS SAINZ WHO WINS THE AUSTRALIAN GRAND PRIX " ?

I saw a post going around calling out race control/marshals for not communicating to the drivers (especially Lance) that George was stopped on track + the delay in calling for VSC.

The timing is certainly interesting, I do think race control could have responded a bit quicker but Lance knew about George's accident well before he approached the turn.

This is Lance approaching the sector where George crashed.

Note the screen signals a flashing yellow triangle, which is a double waved yellow, so Lance knew well before making the turn that there was imminent hazard and that the hazard was on track. (I'll be honest, the camera on that Aston belongs on an old Nokia, at first I thought it was a solid white flag lmao) This is also when Lance's engineer started saying "Yellow ahead, yellow ahead" - George was stopped in the section after that screen, so no marshals with yellows out at that point. So it's not accurate to say that Lance was surprised by George's car. Still, no VSC.

This is Lance's view after the turn - note the marshals frantically going at it with the double waved yellows signaling "DANGER AHEAD - OBJECT ON TRACK IN NEXT SECTOR" you can see the sector line in front of the marshaling post

Note the side screen which should mirror the marshaling post is still showing a white flag (????) - [I don't think it was flashing or showing a VSC, it looks like a solid white, but I can't tell because the video is too quick and the quality is poor. Also I can't see the VSC message on the steering wheel but feel free to correct me if y'all can make it out.]

Then, just as Lance is passing by George, a VSC is called.

( ⬆️VSC screen location for reference)

(you can see the VSC screen in the distance starting to flash as Lance passes George)

Anyways, here's a good video on what the various panels mean (X) And here's a fab video on electronic marshaling and how it works (X)

[My Favourite] Points about todays Quali:

- Everyone wanting a Charles/Max P1-2 podium

- qualifying was entertaining. Max in P1, Charles in P2 and George in P3. Unexpected result from George not gonna lie. I had expected Carlos to pull through in the remaining portion. But George pulled it off.

- Everyone [That being Will] having a Man crush on Nico’s lap is the funniest thing ever 😭

- Charles landing fastest lap

- Charles actually voicing his opinion about his teams decision about the soft. Between new vs used

- Max having to bring up that Charles had the fastest lap

- Hamilton qualified lower than expected. I’m hoping he advances tomorrow

- Alpine doing shit once more. Pierre and Ocon landing P20 and P19. Their car doing absolutely horrible, meaning tomorrow is just testing for them

- Lando and Charles both disliking their laps, despite results. They both acknowledged how bad their laps were and how they could improve

- Toto wanting Max to chill by the pool rather than race tomorrow

- George saying that everyone is racing for P2 because Max has basically already won

- Will just saying he wants Charles to win and that’s it

- Alonso pulling up his big boy pants and Qualifying high despite being the last remaining on the track

- Max and Charles ignoring questions once more, while George third wheels
