EXO Theory Character Analysis Pt.1: Baekhyun - The HEART

To explain Baekhyun’s character we need to start at the beginning: MAMA. The very first thing we’re hit with is the narration, which tells the story of EXO’s origins. The important parts for Baekhyun are highlighted here:

This is said at the same time as these images appear on screen:

The Tree of Life splitting and showing the heart as a glowing ball of light. Light being Baekhyun’s power. IMO this is the first indication that Baekhyun is related to the Heart itself.

This becomes more solidified with later MVs and clips. For example, in Pathcode, we see Baekhyun listening to music and slowly wandering around his environment when suddenly a distorted voice is heard - it sounds like it’s saying ‘Someone is looking for you…’ And then.. Baekhyun, scared, runs, taking all the lights out with him as he does so.

This voice is only heard in Baekhyun’s Pathcode which is significant because it’s such an ominous message. We see many of the EXO members fearful and running from things during their Pathcode, but none with this accompanying voice other than Baekhyun. Why is that? Well, I think it’s also important that he responds by using his power to hide himself. Literally putting himself into darkness.

Another member’s Pathcode relates to Baekhyun in this way, IMO. During Lay’s Pathcode we see him writing a rather unusual poem on his phone..

‘You are my sunshine // I need you // You are the one’

With Baekhyun’s power being light, his connection to the sun is pretty obvious. We see that connection being made a few other times as well just to be super obvious haha..

In Power Baekhyun literally creates the sun that forms one half of an eclipse.

In the Parallel Universe teaser we see the members in this room. Baekhyun is spinning the globe, and then moving his hand under the lamp light adjacent, then moving his hand back over the ‘world’. Kind of a similar sequence to that of an eclipse, right? If we go back to that message Lay writes in his Pathcode, the sunshine, the one he is referring to is Baekhyun. The Heart.
