The “Chainsaw is Ronan’s heart” metaphor goes SO hard and I cannot stop thinking about it. Chainsaw being a fragile baby bird that Ronan has to constantly care for during The Raven Boys, a tiny thing that’s up screaming in the middle of the night. By the Dream Thieves she’s grown, but she’s rarely around during that book. Only in times where Ronan feels at peace—showing his dream plane to his friends, sitting on the floor of Monmouth with Gansey explaining his dreams—or when he’s being particularly vulnerable—giving her to Calla and learning about how to save his mother. By Blue Lily, Lily Blue, Chainsaw is once again a permanent presence, as Ronan has accepted himself and is coming into his own—he’s still hurting, but he’s healing slowly. To the end of the series, where she has a special name for Atom, but shes missing from the finale, missing after Ronan discovers his mother’s body. And in the Dreamer Trilogy, where she’s with Ronan but less of an importance. Where Adam brings her to a sleeping Ronan, and wakes her to see him again.
