Fic idea: Steve and Tony playing chess.

Tony finds it very boring, honestly, which sucks because it's one of the only times they hang out. But Steve is determined to win (they've drawn several times, but he wants the glory of defeating him or whatever). The problem is that Tony has memorized almost all moves and this is just the sort of thing his super-brain thrives on: he's already calculating his next move by the time Steve has picked up his piece, and decided his strategy by the time he's put it back down. He tells himself that at least Steve is having fun, even though he's been starting to hint at other games to him.

Steve's stubborn, though. Personally, even if he loses every time, he still thinks it's fun. Tony does moves he's never even thought of, and he appreciates the workout it's giving his brain each time. And he figures that eventually he'll win. Either Tony will get fully distracted or slip up or something. One time he even full-on cheated and Tony just raised an eyebrow at the board before walking back over to make his move and wander away again. (Steve thinks Tony let it go on purpose just because he wanted Steve to feel the sting of shame when he was forced into checkmate three moves later. Luckily for him, Steve doesn't feel shame, just more motivation to win. And cheat better, maybe.)

Then one day Steve reads that game grandmasters struggle most against inexperienced players. They don't follow the same rules and guides that the experienced players do; they're still learning. Steve considers this for a very long time, then finally decides he doesn't really have any better ideas. So the next time he and Tony meet for a game, he plays like a total novice.

Tony doesn't seem to notice at first, but finally, Steve makes the stupidest move possible with his bishop. It's not a move he would make in a million years--except he did make it, many years ago, when he was playing with Bucky's dad in their tiny tenement with an old, chipped set and he'd just been learning what each piece could do.

Tony turns from where he'd been doing something on his screens, leaning his weight on one arm as he stares at the board. Normally, he'd just tell Steve where to move his pieces for him. Now, though, he gets up, coming to stand over the table and stare at the pieces as if they hold some sort of secret message. His gaze goes sharp, speculative. Then he slowly sits down across from Steve, hands clasped on the table as he carefully considers his next move.

"Oh no," Steve says, mortified, because he realizes this is literally the most attractive Tony has ever been. And his new appreciation of Tony isn't helped any by the fact that Tony is so focused on his next move that he doesn't even notice him speaking or having a crisis about how hot he is.

i think what irks me most about the way people, in canon AND fandom, treat tony stark is that they fully ignore his motivations and the communication he’s doing through his behavior. behavior IS communication, and yet everyone around tony ignores all of his desperate attempts to reach out for help bc he never explicitly directly says “im scared, i need help, something wrong”. like, so many actions are rooted in his fear of everything around him but they become seen as egotistical just people people think he’s doing them to put himself on a pedestal, rather than to keep himself vigilant.

anyways if i read any more Avengers fics in which Tony Stark wears sunglasses indoors “because it’s cool” without any other allusion to his paranoia or health problems, im moving to jupiter

You shouldn’t date or become serious friends/partners with someone if you can’t stomach the thought of being stuck in a car or train with them for 16 hours.

Here’s my logic:

  • You should be able to work together to solve unexpected problems like fixing a flat tire or getting lost in an unfamiliar station
  • You should feel comfortable and safe enough around this person that you can sit in comfortable silence
  • You should be able to keep each other interested and deal with each others boredom in a healthy way
  • If you’re gonna form a long term partnership with someone you should probably be able to tolerate each other while locked in a small box for a few hours

These tags are hilarious even though I don’t think you intended them to be.

*pulls European closer* The most populous countries in the world are China, India, the United States, Indonesia, Pakistan, Nigeria, and Brazil in that order, with these seven nations alone making up 48.16% of the world population. You may note with the aid of a map that many of these nations are quite large, and would take several days of travel to go across either in cars or on boats. Almost half of the world's population lives in places where you can travel in a cramped vehicle for days and still be within the country. Your worldview is limited and Europe is a tiny outlier in travel time and standards for international relations.

having jacegan thots on this fine friday at work...

jace, 20-something, fetishizing older men. he thinks it's no use dating guys his age cus they're all overly eager, sloppy and don't last long enough in bed. just plain disappointments so all his partners are twice his age. in his experience older guys just pay more attention to him and satisfy him better.

jace only being into his family friend cregan when his hair starts going grey and wow does he look so much better. jace keeps inviting him over for no reason at all and cregan is confused why the entitled brat is suddenly all over him. it feels strangely flattering to him, though.

"Kinda weird that everyone's like 'eat the rich' and then their favorite character is a war-profiteering billionaire."

Okay? Tony Stark isn't real. I know that because he actually cares about the employees at his company and the charity he runs, and also when it was pointed out to him that his weapons were hurting innocent people he shit canned weapons manufacturing immediately, even as his shareholders and COO balked VERY LOUDLY at this decision. Musk and Bezos could never.

I never hear this shit about Batman. 🙄

The first real conversation Katniss has with Peeta is when he tells her that he wants to die as himself, that he doesn't want the games to change him into something he's not, and that he wants to keep his identity and prove he's more than just a piece in their games because that's the only thing he has left to care about.

The first time we see Lucy Gray she sings a song that basically says that nothing they could take from her was worth keeping. "Can't take my past. Can't take my history... You can't take my charm. You can't take my health."

The capitol has taken everything from them both, but at the same time, they could never take away who they are.

They are both likeable charismatic and funny, with the kindest hearts, and incredibly loyal to the people they care about.

At the same time, everything they do before the games, and during is calculated. Lucy Gray singing a love song and winning the hearts of the capitol. Peeta confesses he's in love with his district partner, therefore cementing her identity as desirable. Both of them know how to sway people with words, how to charm people, and how to manipulate crowds. Neither of them has any problem doing so to keep themselves, and the people they love safe.

Lucy Gray's song The Old Therebefore, about learning how to love and live her life to the fullest before death, a final and calculated stroke in a last-ditch effort to save herself from the arena. This evokes enough emotion in the watchers to get them to rise to their feet and plead for her life alongside Snow.

Snow, watching the 74th and preparing for the 75th Hunger Games sees Lucy Gray in Katniss. A young girl, from the 12th district. Unafraid at the reaping. Selling a false love story, manipulating a boy who loves her in order to get out and supporting the revolution with the mockingjay as her symbol.

He threatens her family to get her to sell that she and Peeta are in love, to prevent the revolution, because obviously, she's pretending. He's had experience with a girl just like her before. He has no doubt that she has the acting ability to sell this story because clearly, she manipulated the first Hunger Games in her favor, the same way Lucy Gray manipulated him.

Watching the interviews for the 75th Hunger Games he realizes-

Katniss is just an impulsive girl, in a Mockingjay dress she didn't know about, made by someone who supports the revolution.

Peeta is a boy who has the ability to move people with just his words. He made Katniss desirable, he was the one who sold the love story, and he was the one to make their romance seem real. Katniss only started the revolution because she would rather risk dying with him than live without him. A concept President Snow was completely unfamiliar with. And it is with all these realizations crashing around him Peeta drops the baby bomb. He knows the baby's not real, and so does Snow. But it evokes enough emotion in the watchers to get them to rise to their feet and plead for the lives of the tributes.

Is it Lucy Gray or Peeta?

By the time Snow realizes he's made a mistake, it's too late.

Peeta is still charming and manipulating the capitol. Katniss is in love.

He goes up against a kindhearted boy expecting to beat Sejanus again, only to find out that it's Lucy Gray he's fighting; knowing he will never be able to escape their ghosts.

I think it’s kind of funny how coin (who obviously wanted peeta rescued from the arena instead of katniss) doesn’t see what an absolute nightmare he would be for her to deal with if she left katniss in that arena

Like she thinks katniss was hard to deal with/manipulate/control after she left peeta behind? Peeta would’ve had her whole district eating out to the palm of his hand before she even realized who she was dealing with. She thought katniss was too single minded/stubborn about her focus on saving peeta over the revolution itself? He would have been her absolute nightmare (and I adore him for it)

i think about this all the time. like peeta would not have rested until katniss was safe and i mean that. like he would have thrown an entire fit and probs killed haymitch in the process for betraying their deal. and he had no one left. like his family died in the bombings so what exactly could coin use to manipulate him? nothing. like he would have let the revolution die unless they rescued her immediately. he would fully be like “no propos for you until you rescue the love of my life.”

This face. This face Stewy has when he sees Kendall sitting behind Logan's desk, as his rightful heir. He is clearly turned on.

If Kendall had pulled it off, that night, new Waystar chairman Stewy Hosseini would have been on his knees under the desk blowing Waystar's New CEO.

Hi, this is how I wrap presents for people with lower fine motor control; it could be older people, younger people, people with disabilities.

You can use ribbon you already have for wrapping present, and I measured around the item I am about to wrap leaving a little bit of room for the handle.

I taped the beginning end of the ribbon to the box and then loop back the extra ribbon to make a handle, and it should look something like this

You can wrap pretty much like you normally do as long as you make sure that the handle is exposed .

You could even tie something onto the handle for extra support

All done!

Punctuation and spacing was added for readability but all the text is verbatim.

You don’t know how much effort I went to to find this

"Do you think it's possible for someone to have fallen in love with me?" Tony asks.

Jan hears someone scoff a mean 'yeah, right,' and then a smack and offended 'hey!' She rushes to get her stockings pulled up so she can run into the common room, but Tony lets out that laugh she hates before she even gets them up past her knees--plastic, brittle, a cheap veneer over a broken heart. It's too late. He's snapped shut like an oyster, hope dashed under someone's sympathetic cruelty.

"No, you're right, that was stupid of me," Tony says, as if his heart hadn't just been trampled.

Jan throws herself into the common room just in time to watch Tony's bedroom door close, and she grinds her teeth in frustration. Closed doors are the only hard boundary they have here, after business has closed. Only the owner of the door was allowed to open it again.

"What have you done?" she hisses, turning wild eyes on the rest of the room.

One of the other omegas scoffs again, glaring back at her. "He's been here longer than the rest of us. If anyone was going to look past him being a whore, it's too late now. They'd choose fresher meat."

Jan isn't aware she's moved until she's pulled off the other girl, blood on her knuckles and hair between her fingers. "Don't you ever talk about Tony again," she hisses, and then, "Just fucking leave her," when a few of the other omegas nervously make motions to drag the girl's unconscious body to her room. She'll get the message when she wakes up.

Or she won't, and Jan will kill her.

It's not even true, she seethes, storming back into the bathroom to wash the blood off before it can get on her stockings. Tony's not popular like the younger omegas when the army comes through, sure, but he's a favorite of the Captain, and his Lieutenant. Jan's seen the way they look at Tony. She knows they're gagging for any time they can spend with him. They seem to genuinely like him, even. They could fall in love with Tony. Justine wouldn't fucking know.

Jan doesn't either, really. She doesn't even know their names. But they look at Tony with soft eyes as they follow him into Tony's room, and Tony has shown her gifts they've given him on top of his fee. Maybe that's the only way they can show him they care. After all, she knows war ruins people.

It ruined her and Tony, after all.
