the inflection is exactly the same. I have been thinking about this for an hour. was this on purpose or is this just how people are naturally compelled to say these words in this order (via @biderverse on X/Twitter)

In moments like this I always fall back on the fact that they also aren’t speaking English because they don’t have England or the many languages and conquering peoples that contributed to the creation of the English language and therefore the work musr be a translation into recognizable terms in our world’s terms. Call that Tolkien Brainrot.

Definitely funnier if you make fantasy explanations though,

Champagne is a wizard who sells bubbly alcohol.

It’s called English because of the original Lish people, all languages start with En here.

French fries are not potatoes they’re roots of the french plant.

Goodbye is now short for ‘good be your eye’ wishing you luck seeing the path ahead.

Jesus Christ is a long dead lich who used to cause everyone problems and we haven’t stopped saying her name when things go wrong.

And that’s the Pratchett approach

I found an extremely dope disability survival guide for those who are homebound, bedbound, in need of disability accommodations, or would otherwise like resources for how to manage your life as a disabled person. (Link is safe)

It has some great articles and resources and while written by people with ME/CFS, it keeps all disabilities in mind. A lot of it is specific to the USA but even if you're from somewhere else, there are many guides that can still help you. Some really good ones are:

How to live a great disabled life- A guide full of resources to make your life easier and probably the best place to start (including links to some of the below resources). Everything from applying for good quality affordable housing to getting free transportation, affordable medication, how to get enough food stamps, how to get a free phone that doesn't suck, how to find housemates and caregivers, how to be homebound, support groups and Facebook pages (including for specific illnesses), how to help with social change from home, and so many more.

Turning a "no" into a "yes"- A guide on what to say when denied for disability aid/accommodations of many types, particularly over the phone. "Never take no for an answer over the phone. If you have not been turned down in writing, you have not been turned down. Period."

How to be poor in America- A very expansive and helpful guide including things from a directory to find your nearest food bank to resources for getting free home modifications, how to get cheap or free eye and dental care, extremely cheap internet, and financial assistance with vet bills

How to be homebound- This is pretty helpful even if you're not homebound. It includes guides on how to save spoons, getting free and low cost transportation, disability resources in your area, home meals, how to have fun/keep busy while in bed, and a severe bedbound activity master list which includes a link to an audio version of the list on Soundcloud

Master List of Disability Accommodation Letters For Housing- Guides on how to request accommodations and housing as well as your rights, laws, and prewritten sample letters to help you get whatever you need. Includes information on how to request additional bedrooms, stop evictions, request meetings via phone, mail, and email if you can't in person, what you can do if a request is denied, and many other helpful guides

Special Laws to Help Domestic Violence Survivors (Vouchers & Low Income Housing)- Protections, laws, and housing rights for survivors of DV (any gender), and how to get support and protection under the VAWA laws to help you and/or loved ones receive housing and assistance

Dealing With Debt & Disability- Information to assist with debt including student loans, medical debt, how to deal with debt collectors as well as an article with a step by step guide that helped the author cut her overwhelming medical bills by 80%!

There are so many more articles, guides, and tools here that have helped a lot of people. And there are a lot of rights, resources, and protections that people don't know they have and guides that can help you manage your life as a disabled person regardless of income, energy levels, and other factors.

Please boost!

@disabled-dragoon thought this might be something you might want to share too :)

DO NOT DO THIS!!!

If a website has a paywall, like New York Times, DO NOT use the ctrl+A shortcut then the ctrl+c shortcut as fast as you can because then you may accidentally copy the entire article before the paywall comes up. And definitely don't do ctrl+v into the next google doc or whatever you open because then you will accidentally paste the entire article into a google doc or something!!!! I repeat DO NOT do this because it is piracy which is absolutely totally wrong!!!

Also do NOT append "12ft.io/" before a URL ! Typing an URL like this https://12ft.io/<URL> will redirect to a site that would break the display of the page by removing the paywall !

Sherlock wearing a kimono, amongst other works. I explained this precise head canon of mine in this video HERE. (Note: Drawing n°2 was the first version of Drawing n°1, that's why I used the same reference picture for the head)

That time Sherlock threatened to replace John with Jim

The scene that was so subtle it escaped all? most? of us but it is true!!!

Do you all remember the scene in which Moriarty is introduced as Jim from IT, Sherlock deduces he’s gay and interested in him, Molly leaves furious and embarassed and John scolds Sherlock because he’s inconsiderate? Yes, I thought you do.

There is something I found very weird in this whole scene. Sherlock truly handled the issue abruptly, without the appropriate tact, but he did right to inform Molly. John thought it was an ideal moment for a Tact Lesson. But what I found weird is that after basically John accused Sherlock of being inconsiderate, Sherlock smugly asked him to examine the trainers and make deductions. Whatever Sherlock said, John knew that he did it to have a bit of fun with him (”humiliate” in his own words) and yeah, basically, that was Sherlock’s point. Yet… John, who was already pissed, obeyed.

Sherlock had just embarassed Molly, he told her that her boyfriend actually only approached her to get in touch with him, Molly was hurt, John got angry, Sherlock didn’t apologize, Sherlock then even asked John a favour that had as a purpose to make fun of him, angry John realised that, yet John. finally. obeyed. Why?

No I don’t think it was just Sherlock’s puppy eyes. Besides, they’re not exactly puppy eyes. There is smugness lurking and it is clearer in the moving frames. But more on that in a second.

So, I just now realised that this is probably another evidence that not only Sherlock is not sexually oblivious, but he’s actually an expert at the field and knows exactly what happens in John’s soul and mind. I also realised that this whole scene is a subtextual treasure, something I hadn’t noticed before:

John was not that angry about Sherlock’s abrupt way of handling the issue. This was just his excuse. John was mostly angry because he got alarmed by the appearance of an antagonist and he needed to vent. What was worse, John considered Jim a strong antagonist. In short, he was jealous.

First of all, John realised Jim was coming to hit on Sherlock the moment the latter was entering the room. He was alarmed.

When Jim started talking directly to Sherlock, John became plainly annoyed.

He was relieved when Jim threw the Petri dish on the floor. It’s very interesting that when this happened, John experienced secondhand embarrassment. It seems he knows how it feels to make a fool of yourself in front of Sherlock, whom you try to impress.

His reaction is way too strong for his supposedly “tactful” standards (in fact John is not very tactful). He has trouble containing himself because apparently he’s invested in the situation. He feels for Jim yet he’s relieved Jim is supposedly failing so miserably, and he needs to show his comparative superiority.

But John’s relief didn’t last for long. John starts getting more and more irritated as he realises that Sherlock, whom John likes to consider oblivious, has picked up on everything - hair, eyes, skin, UNDERWEAR - which means that he’s not blind to people’s advances and attractive / suggestive features.

In addition to all this, we should add his sexual frustration; when Sherlock mentions that Jim puts product in his hair, John feels the need to emerge out of nowhere and compare Jim to himself. This is not a genuine doubt that Jim is gay. He realized he was feeling jealous and this frustrated him. Thus he felt the need to argue that Sherlock’s deduction is wrong because John uses product for his hair too, who of course IS NOT GAY like he always likes to say. His frustration adds to his anger.

The critical hit comes when Sherlock reveals something that John probably failed to notice. That Jim was playing a game, fooled both John and Molly and managed to sneak his phone number in under their nose. This chain of events is nasty for John because it shows the following:

  1. Sherlock picks up easily on sexual advances
  2. More easily than John. Things happen under John’s nose.
  3. Which means Sherlock’s not oblivious and should not be taken for granted. AT ALL.
  4. Advances by MEN. John already suspects Sherlock is gay.
  5. Sherlock immediately advices Molly to break up. While Sherlock did this because he cares about her, John might also fear that Sherlock is preparing the ground for himself.
  6. And, most importantly, Jim is not just a pretty boy. He’s actually clever.
  7. Sure, he’s manipulative and shows signs of a bad character but he still is clever. Probably cleverer than John. And John knows what gets Sherlock’s gears going.

And Sherlock, devilish pretty Sherlock, understood everything John felt and thought. So he became a little naughty. Basically, I doubt he would do anything if John didn’t vent. But John did, so Sherlock decided to take a small revenge. After John scolded Sherlock, Sherlock was surprised because he thought he did the right thing. This time, I agree with him. In my opinion, it was wise to speak directly and immediately to Molly because this would make her break up with Jim before she got emotionally invested. It was the best timing because Sherlock had the evidence literally in his hands. Yes, he was abrupt but overall he did the right thing.

Sherlock considered John was not fair and he perceived the source of his problem. He then asked him to examine the trainers and make deductions. In other words, he asked John to prove his intelligence and impress him! In more other words, he asked John to prove he’s better than Jim!!!!!!!!

After a moment of surprise and bewilderness, John gets defensive and more annoyed than ever because he understands Sherlock is playing games although he doesn’t initially understand what Sherlock has in mind. Soon, he will. Sherlock entertains himself by “threatening” John he will call Jim and replace him. John takes this seriously. Let’s better see it in pictures and dialogues.

JOHN: Charming, well done.
SHERLOCK: Just saving her time, isn’t that kinder?
J: No, no, Sherlock, that…wasn’t kind…
SH: ………………………. Go on, then. (Why “then”? Probably because -> ”Oh it wasn’t kind? Should I keep his note for myself? Go on, then. Prove me I didn’t make a mistake for letting him go)
J: Hmmm?
SH: You know what I do. Off you go. (Jim has already established he knows all about him and shows active interest in his cases. Sherlock asks John to do the same.)
J: (pointlessly looks at his watch, out of discomfiture) Pfffff… no.
SH: Go on. (Obviously it’s not that John’s input will truly help Sherlock anyhow… Yet, he insists.)
J: I am not gonna stand here so you can humiliate me when I am trying to d-  (John essentially means that he is not gonna have it like Molly and Jim.)
SH: An outside eye (first warning)… a second opinion (second warning)… is very useful to me.
J: Yeah, right. (John is right. It isn’t. Not really.)
SH: Really! (Sherlock stresses this, almost raising his voice)
Third warning. Sherlock gets out the message that he needs a keen “companion”… and, more importantly, a sharp one.

John turns with a faint smile on his face, in disbelief, but the smile drops as soon as he looks at Sherlock and fear creeps in. He realizes what Sherlock means.

Just because Sherlock is pretty, it doesn’t mean those are puppy eyes.

Sherlock does look expectantly at John but there is an aura of almost finality about him. I rest my case… you’ve been warned. Now is your chance.

In short, Sherlock asks to be claimed and won over.

And John, who is pretty-damn-smart…

FINE.

…eventually complies.

But of course this was something trivial for Sherlock to actually seriously threaten to choose Jim over John. He probably didn’t mean it but he was just having some fun with John’s frustration and anger.

And he took his little revenge for John getting angry even though Sherlock rejected the catch like a good boy…

(But this is also more evidence that Sherlock actually did consider Jim a catch… he just was already way too invested in John. More on Sherlock’s attraction to Moriarty here. )
