Words: 3,772 Pairing: Daryl Dixon x Female!Reader Reader pronouns: she/her Era: S10/S11, The Reapers Warnings: language, violence, gore, angst A/N: This is the final part of the Return series. I hope you all enjoy reading it as much as I did writing it. It’s always bittersweet when a series ends, but it opens the door for what’s next. Summary: Daryl, Y/N, and the survivors of the raid on Meridian return home to Alexandria.

“Hey. Y/N,” Daryl’s gentle voice nudged you awake. You thought perhaps he pressed a kiss to the top of your head too, but if he did it was so gentle you may have entirely imagined it. “‘M sorry to wake ya.”

You stirred against his shoulder and blinked your eyes open. Even the diffuse, cloudy light made your head throb. The pounding in your head intensified and the pain in your face and body resurfaced as consciousness flooded back, but seeing and feeling Daryl beside you seemed to lessen it the next moment.

“Ya’ve been out quite a while,” he murmured. You could feel the deep reverberation of his words in his broad chest and they were woven with worry. “Ya should have some water and somethin’ to eat. Sorry,” he said again. He was loathe to wake you from what had seemed a peaceful sleep. Your body had grown heavy as soon as you’d settled in the wagon, finally giving up the last bit of fight you had left in you after the events in Meridian.

“It’s alright,” you said, straightening as best you could. Your body ached and stabbed with pain but you did your best to move without betraying it. Daryl was worried enough already. “I could eat a little I suppose.”
