Based in Brighton UK. We are a professionally equipped and spacious print studio providing facilities and expertise in screenprinting, letterpress, bookbinding and the book arts, relief printing and photopolymer etching. As well as being a working studio run by artist Jane Sampson the workshop operates on an open access basis providing a place where artists, designers and members of the public, students and community groups can use the equipment and source technical expertise in order to develop their hands on printmaking or bookbinding skills. A dedicated team of professional artists is on hand to teach and inspire on one of our many courses, weekend workshops and taster days.

You may recognise this black feline by Eve Poland. This is what we call print-out and we love the random splashes of colour and content. Always a pleasure to dig around in the print-out !!

Have you longed to learn more about making books? Learn with Sarah Bryant of the infamous Big Jump Press.  http://bigjumppress.wordpress.com/author/bigjumppress/

In this course we will be learning technical skills of bookbinding as well as applying these new skills to book projects. We will begin by focusing on structures that work well for artists, including simple innovative structures, a hard cover book structure, and concertina/accordion books.

We will discuss how to use the unique possibilities that books present, sequence and pacing, the use translucency and layering, and the possibilities inherent in different materials.

We'll talk about the tools and materials necessary for book work as well as tactics for producing editions (identical multiples.)

Students are encouraged to bring ideas for projects that we will begin workshopping mid-way through the course.

This course includes a small materials fee of £12.

Book in at the studio to do this course, it starts the 12 Feb.
