i love your treat pouch, can I ask where you got it??
The brand is starmark, I got it from a pet store that was loval to me when I lived in VA. You should be able to find it online however!
I yelled at my dog yesterday because he was trying to eat a rock and I had a customer complain that I would dare raise my voice to a service dog. “Don’t you know that they save lives?!” she implored. Yes stranger, he’s my dog. My service dog. He saves my life. But he also can’t do that if he’s in sugery for eating flipping ROCKS.
Horizon and I are still alive and are finally moving into non-service dog things! It feels so great to have a mature dog who can handle being an SD and an active, trick learning, sport dog. Plus we now have the freedom to pull ourselves in as many different directions as we want! It is so reliving to work in new venues again, and since he has more than basic pet skills I mainly just need to focus on my handling/engagement skills (which relieves a lot if pressure for me).
So far we have added the “SPOT-ON” and one Rally title to Horizon’s name! I’m thinking next I’ll turn in our proof for the Do More With Your Dog titles and get it certified with the AKC (... maybe solidify a few of the advanced tricks by the end of April so he can get all of the titles at once). Then we have a CGC/CGCU planned in late May, will probably do more Rally entries, and see about getting into a weight pull trial. Possibly look into some of the more demanding sports after more health testing has been done, but I’m not too worried about doing any one thing. I’m just so excited to continue training with my dog and teach him more comminucation skills!
Okay so I have something to ask you all. As you may know, I’m planning of getting a service dog to help me with my PTSD, anxiety disorder, fibromyalgia and my deafness (left ear is totally deaf so I can’t localize sounds at all). Nahla was supposed to become a SD but due to traumas she won’t be able to.
So the point is, I’m searching for a breed. I don’t have that much critters, just that the dog should be max 60 cm (family reasons, uh, they don’t want one taller than Nahla but 5 cm more isn’t a big deal) and min 50 cm. I’ve been thinking of an English Springer Spaniel but all the ones here are generally 52 cm max. I’ve also been thinking of a Border Collie (but some told me that wasn’t a good idea ?) or a Standard Poodle. Any other ideas ? I’m open to every suggestions !
That’s still going but my family agrees, just have some ‘problems’ about which breed would be best.
Ok I’m gonna tag some blogs that I can think of off the top of my head who each have different breeds.
There’s also the typical labs and golden retrievers. I’m sure someone has either a gsd or malinois as a service dog too but I can’t remember their url!!!
I think I remember reading that bcs aren’t generally good due to sound sensitivity or something.
Good luck!
Hello! So the breeds most commonly suggested for service work are golden retievers, labradors, and standard poodles. They have the best success rate, compared to other breeds, so I always suggest sticking to those breeds if possible. Border collies are often not used because they are very sound sensitive and often too “soft” for the job.
Hello, I am still alive, just not checking tumblr often at all. I don’t really have the time or energy to come back here anymore like I thought I would. I do sometimes pop back on to look at my friend’s accounts but I’ll probably only post rarely from here on out, unless the blue hellsite gets their shit together?
If you do want to keep following our adventures I still post on instagram sometimes (under the same name) but that isn’t guanteed to continue either.
So yeah. Hello, I love you guys, but this is a hellsite and I don’t find posting about my dog as theraputic as I once did. Hope you all are doing well and continue to do so ❤️❤️❤️
