Chapter 05
Ruki pushed the door open, letting the winter wind in with a sappy scent and hint of sea salt. I waved my hand behind my dear husband.
I brushed everything else aside and dashed past Ruki, hearing him mumbling 'good grief' and something about a handful. Not minding the complaints from my husband, I pulled my friend into a warm embrace. She was cold from the air outside but I didn't let that bother me.
"Fufu, Slut-chan seems to enjoy your wife's company. Quite a sight, don't you think, Ruki, nfu~"
"Oh my gosh, don't call Maria like that!" I backed down from the hug, staring at Sakamaki Laito-kun who gave me a smirk.
"She likes that, fufu~" Laito-kun stepped closer, closing the door behind him. "And don't tell me that you don't enjoy Ruki degra-"
"Haa... I can see that you still lack manners, Sakamaki Laito." Ruki coughed. "That's enough."
I could see the frown appearing and smell a whiff trace of annoyance around Ruki. He grabbed my waist and almost shoved me half behind him. "Welcome to have a dinner with our family. I do hope you know how to respect the occasion."
"My, my..." Laito-kun chuckled, but Maria took his hand.
"It's so nice to be here again. How have you been? Is university still giving you a headache, Yuriko?"
I shook my head. "I finished all my assignments... and I managed to shorten that one essay that I struggled with. So, everything is perfect. I hope with you as well?"
"Yes, all is going fine." Maria beamed.
That was good news. It seemed everyone was joyful today. I snaked my arm on Ruki's waist and gave him a slight squeeze to show there was nothing to worry about.
"I... umh... think everyone else is in the living room already." I nodded. "We should join them."
"Yes, let's go!" Maria chirped, pulling Laito-kun's hand.
As the couple wandered through the hallway, I rose on my toes and pressed a smooch on Ruki's cheek. "I'm sure this will be a nice evening~ Thank you for inviting Maria and Laito-kun too."
"Anything to make my angel happy." Ruki sighed. "Though I never thought I would have to spend time with that..."
"Yes, let's go. We can't make others wait for us."
When Ruki walked me to the living room, I realized I had forgotten to ask where he had been earlier.
