I’ve been wanting to share this with you for so long. With today’s chapter update, I finally can. 

The wonderful @blauerozen drew this brilliant piece on fan art for my “Sparrow,” and though I’ve been marvelling at this finished beauty for weeks now, it still amazes me, every time I look at it. I adore their expressions, the colours, the atmosphere. All the fluffy snowflakes. 

Thank you so very much for this. It’s hauntingly gorgeous! 

As they step out of the café with the familiar tinkle of the bell, Eren can see it has been snowing for a while. A thin blanket of white covers everything so neatly, it’s as though someone had taken a big sieve and sprinkled the world with powdery sugar like cake. It’s beautiful. Eren smiles.

They begin to walk through the streets, two silent figures in green, minds in harmony but each drifting away in an own trail of thoughts.

Levi’s very drawn to jewelry and trinkets; one day he saw Petra wearing a pair of hoops on her ears and he demanded to have a pair. Dr. Hanji was the one to do it, Eren wasn’t very happy, but the result was quite appealing. And since now Eren’s very much settled at the center and everyone’s warmed up to him, he was allowed to grow his hair out, as long as he wears it up while working. They both like each other’s look.

Eren says: They do, as do some of his scales and tiny spots on his skin along his arms, some times on his cheeks too. Not all of his kind have this ability, but those who do, like him, use it to lure in big game fish to hunt for their pods. Merfolk are quite strong, Levi specially seems to be one of the strongest if we consider his particular skills, despite being on the small side, so they can take sea creatures twice their size or bigger. They also use it for mating rituals to attract a mate, or to scare off others from enemy pods and to avoid engaging in fights, depending on their markings and colors. Levi’s are more for luring in than threat display, says he “doesn’t need threat displays”… Smug, aren’t we? I’ll admit, they are quite beautiful… Though a little scary, if I’m being honest.

I have spent way too much time on this… ;w;. Also, I have a realization.. I like legs..

Fact time:

At the beginning of their relationship, and despite it developing within a supportive, safe environment, Eren and Levi didn’t have the easiest transition from a platonic relationship, to a romantic one. And not just because of the differences that come with an interspecies relationship, which was already a complicated issue for them. Everyone had difficulty at first coming to terms with the fact that, indeed, it was happening, feelings were involved, and there was nothing anyone could do about it anymore. Especially since merfolk were, and still are, very unknown to the world, Levi being the very first of his kind at the Center. Everyone knew he was smart and sentient… We just didn’t know how much or to what extent he was similar to humans. We were still learning about him, and him about us. But it happened.

Eventually, a majority of staff members along with Mr. Smith and Dr. Hange came to accept the situation, and began to work with both of them about how things could be handled in a healthy, safe way. It wasn’t like a typical work-college-type of romantic drama… Levi wasn’t there to work, but to cooperate in the project, as well as to live under protection of the Center.

However, as with anything in the world… Not every single person was alright with it. Little by little, people began to show their true feelings regarding their relationship, and how they didn’t truly care about understanding merfolk and working to create a harmonious life between merfolk and humans. Eren and Levi would be looked down upon by some staff, talked behind their backs, mistreated in Levi’s case, insulted in Eren’s, threatened in both cases. And that behavior is not tolerated here.  Thus, a purge of staff began. One by one the disagreeable members were plucked from the Center.
