A Different Kind of Magic

a Stephen Strange drabble (for now) by sobeautifullyobsessed

Stephen stretched his arm atop the sofa back, and the woman beside him nestled against him, humming so quietly that he barely heard her.  Humming her satisfaction, and neither one of them needing to speak a word, as he adjusted ever so slightly to the feel of her warmth and her soft presence, pressed close to his side.  He closed his eyes, delighting as her dark hair brushed along his jawline, enjoying the newly familiar scent of her shampoo (strawberries and cream, entirely apropos to her sweet disposition), while wondering why he had let himself go so long without allowing anyone to get this close to his heart, in what felt to him now like…forever. How could he have so adamantly denied his need for simple, human affection for so long?

She rested her free hand on his chest, and without a thought, he moved his other hand, to rest atop hers. This is good, he thought, and not for the first time today; this is really, really good, as he cast his mind back to the many days and weeks before, when he tried his utmost to keep her at arm’s length.  He realized now that he hadn’t been trying to protect himself as much as trying to protect her; he knew his own history far too well, and the remorse of the pain he’d caused the last woman in his life still prickled his conscience when thoughts of her crossed his mind.  He’d have to confess it all to Beauty eventually, as a precautionary tale; he would not, could not, bear to bring the same heartache upon her as his thoughtlessness, selfishness, and arrogance, had brought him to inflict upon Christine.

“I love this part,” she murmured, redirecting his attention to the movie on the screen.  Practical Magic, a film that she had called one of her favorites.  When he suggested a movie night in the comfort (and privacy) of the Sanctum, she had been quick to suggest a magical pair—and Stephen had agreed readily, not realizing there would be more than magic as a theme.  Or rather, a very different magic than what he’d been anticipating.

Fuck Sony

Spiderman in the MCU, has been the best place for him theatrically. That’s fucking fact. Im so upset, these movies mean so much to me. I saw Hoco on one of the worst days of my life, but seeing Tony and Peter, the fun avengers references, the stunning direction that the MCU pushed him in; made my day so much better. When I first entered High School I was so overwhelmed and stressed, watching that first movie calmed me down and me smile, in a way only our current Marvel/Sony deal can. I love peter but I also love the family he has created within the MCU and I would be heartbroken if we can’t get that back. I was able to finish up the school year with the promise that summer meant FFH, and I know Im not the only one. Hopefully, it doesn’t go through but if it does… Myself and many others just lost something so important to us

This is probably a dumb question, but I'm not too familiar with the comics and haven't seen the movie in a while. Is Stephen the sorcerer supreme yet or is that to happen in the future movies? Whether he is or not, is he immortal? Because I know that the Ancient One was through morally murky means, but can immortality be extended to anyone who practices magic like they do? Sorry if you've already answered this!

No, don’t worry! I’ll explain! :D

1) It was not announced he’s Sorcerer Supreme, I doubt he is, I doubt it would happen off-screen. The Ancient One gave him the “Master” certificate and nominated him the New York Sanctum Guardian. That’s the titles he has. If he is Sorcerer Supreme, the movies were not clear enough, there is no evidence he is.

2) No, Stephen is not immortal. If you shoot him or stab him severely enough, he will die. He does sound immortal and ethereal (and dreamy) but he is a normal human, like you and me. The only thing he differs in is that he studied the Mystic Arts. What he has IN THE COMICS is “incomplete immortality”, that is, he doesn’t AGE or dies due to NATURAL CAUSES (illness etc.). Still, we don’t have that announced in the movie (yet?).

3) Yes, immortality (and incomplete kinds of immortality) can be obtained through magic, but it’s not “automatic”. You have to conjure a specific spell, use a specific seal or make a pact with an entity etc. in order to obtain any kind of immortality. In the Ancient One’s case, she was draining energy from the Dark Dimension to stay young (she knew she had to guide Stephen and stop Kaecilius) and to increase her “reality manipulation”. In the comics, Stephen got his incomplete immortality by defeating Death and bargaining with Eternity I believe. He also became an Asgardian Demigod recently, so I guess that keeps him young too. He can get sick, but he won’t die if the illness is natural.

So,

I just watched Avengers Endgame.

I thought my feelings can't be easily played.

But this,

This is all that is needed to ride over me.

PS. I WILL NOT POST ANY SPOILERS FOR 2 WEEKS STARTING FROM NOW, UNLESS I REALLY NEED TOO. YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED.
