Pride month this year made we think a lot about how far we’ve come and how much more there is to be done. I got so much more to say, but I focused my thoughts to this: I can only imagine what I would have felt if one of the characters in my favorite animated show/movie was gay. I wonder if it would have made me feel like I wasn’t as weird, wasn’t as different. I wonder if it would have helped me to come out sooner, to be truly who I am in front of other people, to feel comfortable in my own skin. I know so many gay people working in animation. Board artists, character designers, art directors, recruiters, executives. Where are we on the animated screen? Why are we good as painters, designers, storytellers, dream makers, but when it comes to being represented in our own creations, that’s too much to ask for? I’ve heard someone makes an argument that because animation mostly targets kids, it’s inappropriate to talk about sexual orientation. Kids don’t understand that. Well, the thing is that this is not about sex, this is about love. And kids understand love very well. We need our content to show kids that a boy can love a boy and a girl can love a girl, and that’s perfectly normal. Our love is not less important or less valuable than any other love. Representation is crucial. Seeing yourself on the screen from a young age can change your life. In some cases, can save your life. It’s time to make a real difference. 🏳️‍🌈✊🏳️‍🌈✊🏳️‍🌈✊🏳️‍🌈 P.S NEW Art + comics on my IG! https://www.instagram.com/yonatan_tal/?hl=en

NEW MINI-FILM HERE! ✨✨

“Falling” is about breakups. It’s about being at the point of no return, about remembering only the good moments, ignoring the problems, and not wanting to let go, even just so you can have one more moment of love.

Originally created for Loopdeloop February 2019. I’m so fortunate to have incredibly talented friends that agreed to come on board and contribute to my little indie animation. Actors: Ryan Masson and Kristin Tripe. Soundtrack: Royi Tal & Oliver Ballantyne. Extra Help: Daniel Markovich. ❤️💔

Much Love!

hi i just noticed, the two characters in your animation Aquarium, do they make a cameo in the wedding scene in Mr Carefree Butterfly?

Hey miloyeo!

Nice observation;) It actually might be a good opportunity to reveal all of the hidden cameos I’ve had in my films:

“Mr. Carefree Butterfly”, wedding scene - my second year film characters are in the crowd and a character that looks like me sits on the other side:

“Mr. Carefree Butterfly” - facebook post - Both my 3rd and 1st year characters are tattooed on the tattoo artist’s arm, as well as the room# of the computer lab at CalArts where I made this film and a bunch of other tattoos that people I know got:

“Nightmare in the Morning” - This crowd shot has a character from #Ripaille hanging in the back.

“#Ripaille“ - the Annecy short I made together with a great group of Gobelins students in Paris has a very subtle cameo of the character from “Nightmare in the Morning” as the logo of a Starbucks-like Cafe that’s also called “YONI’S” after my name. Both films were made in the same time..!

“#Ripaille“ - me, just taking a dive in a big boiling caldron.

I think that’s it as far as I remember hah
