Me irl: the problem isnt taxes, youre thinking too small. The problem is that the federal government isnt taxing the right people the right amount. Theyre taking all our extra cash in our measly little wealth bracket and letting the billionaires hang on to more money than they can ever spend in a lifetime. The only way anybody gets a single billion is either through exploitation or inheriting it from someone else who did the exploitation, nobody who has that kind of money earned it legitimately. Not only do we need to strip that back into social safety nets for those of us theyre bleeding dry instead, but they need to establish hard laws and regulations to prevent that kind of exploitation from happening in the first place!
My coworkers: man, youre a real red-card commie, aren't you? You gonna start telling us to vote NDP and that healtcare isnt a scam too? Jesus christ go give someone else your goddamn revolution pamphlets, lenin.
Me on tumblr: while i appreciate the animosity towards billionaires, i dont think literally dragging a guillotine into the streets and beheading people as a public spectacle is going to actually solve the problems inherent in the system considering the french already tried that and it didnt work out well for them. Also i dont think anybody has the right to decide who lives and who dies, im pretty anti death penalt-

People are really like ohh pay artists support artists until they actually have to put their money where their mouth is. You pay when someone makes you a coffee, you pay when someone paints you a painting, but you feel so entitled to the product that Watcher makes because.. it was free in the past? Because it's a video and not a painting? It's still a product. It's their craft. They have every right to be paid for it.

sorry to like, keep going on about this but as a (former?) media professional: seeing so many comments on @wearewatcher's video saying "I would fire people so I didn't have to charge for content" and accusing WATCHER of being capitalist about it is actually insane.
- you used to have to pay for content. you had to pay like £16 to watch one whole movie on DVD. this is because it cost money to make and people were supposed to be paid for it. remember the writers' strike because streaming now only benefits executives with no equanimous income distribution model for the people who create the stuff you love?
- you are meant to root for the independent creators. you are not meant to want all content to be beholden to an algorithmic nightmare that ransoms what creators can make or monetise for its own arbitrary censorship. you are not meant to root for a platform that works to silence and limit people under oppressive regimes. you are not meant to demand that you get content only on something that platforms and promotes right wing prejudice.
- employing people is good!!!!!!! you are meant to want people to be fairly paid for their work even and especially when that work goes into creating things you love and get enrichment from
- yes you are also meant to share your subscription with your friends. OUR login details. THAT'S fucking socialism.

- between them all, the guys at Watcher have made a lot of content effectively for free for all of us for many, many years. there is plenty of backlog to catch up on if you haven't already
- if there is an enemy here, it's youtube. something like Watcher should be able to make a living on that platform. youtube has long abandoned it's creators and it is only getting worse.
- paying money to smaller creators who put their all into making content you love is always going to be more worth it than paying for streaming services like netflix or hbo 🏴☠️
- if you can't cover the cost, sharing accounts is the way to go. OR you can chip in a month here and there and catch up when you are able
- please don't be sad! It's gonna be ok. and please don't spread misinformation in the meantime maybe

Also say it with me now: Ryan and Shane are not rich. Before the 2000'z, the average middle class US american would be able to afford a home, two cars, and a 1 or 2 vacations trips. Almost no body in america can reach that nowadays. You're either hitting the bar (barely grazing), trying to hit it but never getting to, or you were born above the bar. Ryan lived with two room mates until a year go where he now lives in an apartment with his wife and dog in LA. He's in his early thirties. Shane Madej is nearing forty and lives in an apartment in LA with his wife, owns one self proclaimed shitty car. These men aren't fucking Jeff Bezos. You're closer to them in income than they are to Taylor Swift. Which in other words, closer than not. We are not being taken advantage of. Capitalism just sucks. Piracy still exists. And you're a bad ass bitch okay? So lets all chill

Luke being given a quest at 17, feeling like there's no glory in it because it's a quest someone's already succeeded before, but then failing that very quest he considered to be beneath him, getting a permanent scar, "ruining it" for the rest of the campers because now no one else can go on quests and earn glory in the eyes of the gods, so he turns to Kronos, and years later here comes a possible candidate for the great prophecy, 12 years old, gets the first quest the camp has done since Luke's fucked it up, and Luke is actively ensuring this quest is an impossible quest!! he's literally rigged it so Percy's gonna fail (the shoes, the bolt appearing in his bag) and then this kid somehow succeeds still??? and not only that, Percy got the unique quest Luke wanted in the first place and achieved feats no one else had and earned glory in the eyes of his father, all because Luke created the circumstances for that to happen??
oh my god yeah I don't think I'd ever recover from that either
