The Bloody Chamber and Other Stories by Angela Carter! I don't usually like the kind of 'purple prose' style you could say, but her descriptions are captivating to me

why are dudes in fanfic always getting hit with freight train orgasms. why not an orient express orgasm, classy and romantic. where are the shinkansen train orgasms? his orgasm hit him like the TGV atlantique breaking the passenger rail speed record. like the shanghai maglev, his orgasm was a feat of engineering but something of a commercial disappointment.
Don’t tell me delayed orgasms aren’t a thing

There’s a quote from Bert where he says he‘s “known big bird since he was a little bird” and the thought of it makes my heart cry so here’s that
The absolute best Katniss and Haymitch moment:
Several sets of arms would embrace me. But in the end, the only person I truly want to comfort me is Haymitch, because he loves Peeta, too. I reach out for him and say something like his name and he's there, holding me and patting my back. "It's okay. It'll be okay, sweetheart." He sits me on a length of broken marble pillar and keeps an arm around me while I sob.
It shows what a bond all three of the District 12 victors have. At this moment, Katniss isn't lacking those who would support her, comfort her. But they're also trying to get a propo out of her in this moment. As much as they might be concerned for Katniss, their priority is the war. It's only Haymitch who is suffering and feeling guilty like Katniss is. Because they're the only two left who really, truly love Peeta. Not the Peeta on the screen or what he could have done in propos, but him.
These two have always been guarded, pushing people away as a defense, keeping them at arm's length. The only person Katniss has ever asked to comfort her has been Peeta, until this moment. This moment when Peeta's gone and the full impact of her love for him being responsible for his torture hits, she asks for comfort from the only person who feels as she does. She reaches out for Haymitch, says his name, and without hesitation, the mentor who had initially written her off as dead, comes to her to offer the only thing he's able to in that moment: arms that hold her, arms to replace the ones she lost.

I hate the trope of "I refuse to hit women!! [Gets decked]" cause it's boring but I do like the trope of someone in an RPG going "hey I don't wanna hit a kid that's kinda fucked up" and the kid just obliterates them
"i refuse to hit a woman!" = Sexist, overdone, does nothing to actually empower the woman or make the guy seem nice
"I refuse to hit a kid" = valid, even funnier when the kid whips absolutely ass in one go

Loneliness isn’t always a dramatic soliloquy in the rain. It’s quieter than that. Sadder. Here’s how I like to show a character is lonely without ever using the word “lonely”
