9-1-1 Reverse Bang

@911reversebang / 911reversebang.tumblr.com

Join us for the 911 Reverse Bang, a fandom event to celebrate 911 and 911: Lone Star! Unlike a traditional Big Bang, we will be looking for artists to create fanworks of various mediums, and then we'll be matching up artists with writers to create fanfics based on the art prompts! If you have a question, feel free to send us an ask, but also check out the Rules, FAQs, and Calendar pages first, your question might be answered there.

Hey all!

Sign-ups are currently OPEN for the third annual 9-1-1 and 9-1-1: Lone Star Reverse Bang! You may be wondering: What is a reverse bang?

In a typical fandom Big Bang, fic is written first and then art is created for the fic. In a Reverse Bang, the art is created first and then fic is created for the art. Creators will have up to six months (depending on when they sign up) to create any of the accepted forms of art for fic to be written from! Once matched, writers will have three months to work with their artists to create a fic with a minimum word count of 5K.

Please check out our RULES and CALENDAR pages for more info, but the most important thing to know is that sign ups are open right now! You can sign up as an artist/creator and/or as a writer! Sign ups will be open until March 31st.

If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to shoot us an ask! But check out the FAQs first because that might already answer your question :)

✨And because we know Tumblr's Mobile format doesn't often like page links, here are the mobile-friendly versions of the above pages:

Thank you to last year's participants for filling out our exit survey! We've got a couple changes in mind that we think will help the process for everyone, but we'll detail those as we get closer so we don't overwhelm y'all with information.

Alright, y'all, the moment we've (I've) all been waiting for! (Again, probably just me...)

Here are your Prompts for #BuckTommyWeek which is June 3-9, 2024.

Saturday, June 8, 2024: Pride (First pride, or Pride traditions) Sunday, June 9, 2024: Leaving a mark (wonder where I got THAT idea from?)

And what will the alternate prompts be, you may ask? Where are the dirty ones from last time?

The alternate prompts are the weekend prompts so:

  • A figure from their past.
  • "I'll come for you, no matter what, if you need me, I'll be there."
  • Their favourite firsts.
  • "No touching. You'll be patient and wait until I'm done."
  • The toy chest.
  • "Guess what I'm wearing right now?"
  • Beast mode (wonder where I got that idea from?)

I have a question, how many art pieces can an artist submit? Thanks.

Artists can submit up to 4 separate works! In limited cases we allow for more than 4 works, but this requires prior approval from the Mods.

Basically we just want to make sure anyone who wants to do more has the bandwidth to dedicate appropriate time to the extra works and their authors/partners.

I have a very theoretical question for how claims work.

I'm a writer, let's say my #1 pick is a piece everyone wants but the artist miraculously choses my idea as their #1 as well - does that automatically match us because we both want each other above all else?

Or could it be that maybe my pick #4 is a piece no other writer wanted to claim, so I'm their only option, so I would get that and my #1 artist gets their #2? Would that be fair? Or would that #4 piece just be open for a second round of claims?

Thanks in advance

The pairing process can be confusing but I’ll do my best to explain.

Basically we start with everyone’s first choice. If a work is picked by only one person as their first choice, they’ll get that work automatically. If multiple first choices are claiming a work, we let the artist decide based on the author pitches.

If only one person lists a work as #1 but other people rank it #2 or #5, the person who picked it #1 will get it.

If no one picked a work as #1 but multiple people picked it as #2, we go through the whole process again.

So to address your example, if you’re the only person who picked a work but you ranked it #4, we would still go through the process with your #1-3 picks first. And if we assign you a work based on those and the #4 pick now has no one attached, we have contingencies in place to deal with that. For instance, we can utilize our pool of pinch hitters. But we have a few methods we can work with!

I hope that helps!

Attn: Artists!

It's time to check-in!

Earlier today, we sent out the check-in form to your email. Please fill out the form no later than Tuesday April 11th, 11:59pm PT.

Don't worry about how much progress you have or haven't made, we just want to get an estimate on where everyone's at and see how you're feeling.

The next time you'll hear from us will be in the week leading up to the Submission Deadline (May 20th).

Thanks!

Attn: Artists!

Earlier today, we sent an email out with the Art Submission Form.

Don't worry; works are not due right now! The form will be open throughout the creating period and will close May 20th. You can submit works as you finish them, or wait until the deadline to submit everything at once. It's up to you!

We'll send out another email with the same link closer to the deadline.

Please message us if you have not received the email (and have checked your spam/junk folder). DM would be faster, but ask box is fine, just make sure you're off anon so we can respond privately.

Attn: All!

Last week, you should have received a Welcome Email! If you did, great, your email worked! There are no actions that need to be taken at the moment, we just want to make sure we sort out any email issues now if there are any.

As a reminder, we have a dedicated Discord Server for the event this year! We will communicate all updates via email (and here!), but Discord may allow for more immediate response from the Mods. Additionally, you can interact with other RB participants, cheer each other on, ask for help, and more!

Joining the server is not a requirement for participation, unless you are a pinch hitter. Discord will be the only avenue we use to post calls for pinch hitters.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is a Reverse Bang?

In a typical fandom big-bang fic is written first and then art is created for the fic.  In a Reverse Bang, the art is created first and the fic then created for the art.  Creators will have up to six months (depending on when they sign up) to create any of the accepted forms of art for fic to be written from!  Once matched, writers will have three months to work with their artists to create a fic with a minimum word count of 5K.

I’m signed up as an artist/creator. Can I create more than one work?

YES! We would love to see people create multiple works! At this time, we’re asking that people limit themselves to four (4) creations. This is partially to make sure we have enough writers to give all our our creators someone to write fic for, and also so you don’t burn yourself out trying to make a bunch of things.

What if I need to drop out? What should I do?

With events like this that last over multiple months, it’s entirely understandable that life circumstances may change between when you signed up and partway through the Bang. This is totally fine, we understand! That being said, out of fairness to your creative partner (whether you’re a creator or an author), the mods ask that you let us know as soon as you determine that you won’t be able to participate any longer. There are no repercussions for dropping out, we just need to know so we can reach out to our pinch hitters with as much time as we can possibly give them.

What is a pinch hitter?

A pinch hitter is someone who volunteers to be a last minute substitute. As excited as people can be to participate in a Bang, sometimes life gets in the way leaving people unable to finish their work. So when someone who initially signed up has to drop out, a pinch hitter is saying that they’re willing to take that person’s place and create/write something with less time than everyone else. This way artists still have fics written based on their works, and fic writers will have completed art pieces if the artist they were working with has to leave.

Do I need to join the Reverse Bang Discord to participate?

Short answer: yes.

We understand that people may not want to learn a new platform, or perhaps you’re already involved in too many servers and don’t want to deal with another one.

That being said, we’ve decided that it’s best for everyone, participants and mods alike, to have centralized communication so we can better inform on updates and reach out to folks. We promise not to spam you with info there; you’ll only ever receive notifications from us for important event info.

I still have a question that hasn’t been answered here. What do I do?

Please send us an ask and we’ll get to you as soon as we can! Asks will be publicly answered unless specifically requested to remain private.
