A Little Spark of Chaos

I've had people suggest to me I should make videos about my customizing process, and the wave of exhaustion that crashed through me at the thought of A: having to make a filming set up to show what I'm doing, B: wrestle with a camera while I'm trying to do very fiddly work, C: having to edit all that footage later, D: having to keep up with another social media account when I can barely keep up with cross-posting to Insta...

Doesn't look like much for 2 hrs of work, but this means he'll have functional joints.

A few more additions and I should be able to do a proper test stringing. Mostly I hope everything stays secure when it has elastic pulling at it.

one thing I haven't yet figured out for this custom is how I'm going to add his mane on. I have some vague ideas but I don't now if they'll work

when I first started planning this project I did consider buying a dragon BJD and customizing it (like there's some really cool and nice 3d printed ones you can get)

Sadly, she doesn't have a figure. But also, this is a little strange, bc I've heard that G5 references G1 as having happened in universe, so like... is this a reincarnation? Is it supposed to be a coincidence? Wasn't Fluttershy also supposed to be Posey reimagined?

I just feel like this is a clear sign of how little thought has gone into this gen beyond "throw whatever at the wall and hope kids buy it"

Here's where I am currently, modding in the articulation. I'm practically making a bjd at this point, but that's ok. Gotta get the joints worked out before I move to pure aesthetics. Not much else to say right now really.

You might remember my silly fluttercord child, Minx, who is loosely based off Creamsicle the giraffe from G1.

I found one of these crayola scrubbies (?) figures, and thought she looked like Minx. So I removed the flocking by soaking her in LA's Totally Awesome cleanser, sculpted on a few details, and painted her to make her my OC lol.

She's a good scale with the smaller size of the standard G4 figures, as Minx is a rather large baby (compared to a pony anyhow).

She's definitely the kind of small child who hides behind their mother, and she'll be very happy to hide behind this Fluttershy on my shelf.

Decided to stick with the RH body. AJ doesn't match Toralei, and clashing oranges looked worse than the complete mismatch. It brings to mind someone wearing a horse mask, but I think it's fun.

Tried one of the AJ heads on a RH body.

Need to adjust the neck fit, but I think it'd be cute. Though I might try her on a Toralei too before I decide. I don't mind the mismatch on these types of hybrids, but I do like exploring my options.

Thrifted more ponies, this time these cute little G1 style figures. These were blind box figures, so I'm guessing someone finally decided to clear out the extras bc there's three Applejacks lol

Highlights include: the CMC, a lesbian couple, Minty, a concerned pony lookin' Fluttershy, and I don't know who these are actually.

G2 Draculaura on a G3 body.

I've had the head for ages, and finally decided to give her a body.

hoo boy.

I had a feeling it was going to be bad. And oh man is it bad. Bubbles and dead bug aside, I feared the mold hadn't turned out right, and yeah. It's not good.

Even if the resin had 0 bubbles and was clean and nice other wise, it was still gonna be a mess.

I've made peace with it, and I'll know more for next time, but I can't justify spending more to try again. Sculpey may not be a durable as resin, but I only need one head at the end of the day, and I already have a lot into this project and I've barely gotten anywhere yet.
