New year, new OC masterpost

(Not that I've added any new ones, I just thought I could make one that was a bit neater than what I currently have. Plus I added pictures of them, if you wanna see what they look like!)

Feel free to read through these, and feel free to send me asks about them, be it questions about their story or personality, fic prompts, or anything!

Note: My stories about these characters, especially the stories about Meldie, are not necessarily written or posted in a chronological order (beyond what is explicitly stated in the story or the notes). They're by and large oneshots or series no more than few chapters long, which can be read in any order. (And it may be that sometimes, if it's convenient for me, I decide that an older oneshot takes place in the timeline later than something I've written more recently.)

I don’t usually make posts like this but I feel like it’s right for the community to know about and block this person.

@helpful-writing-tips has been stealing people’s posts, including posts from the whump community, and posting them without consent (sometimes with credit but often without).

I’ve tried to reach out to them directly and discuss how what they’re doing goes against tumblr etiquette and isn’t acceptable but I’ve received no response and I feel like people should be able to prevent their work being stolen for notes.

An injured character waking up with an initial moment of panic at the constricting feeling of their wounds' dressings, splints, bandages, sling, etc. being too confining, too close to previous bonds or grasps, struggling briefly and frantically before pain, wakefulness, the reassurances of a companion, permeate through the muddled fear.

A character who can only lie in a specific position- having been flogged and needing to lie on their stomach with their back a flayed-open mess; propped semi-reclining up on pillows the better to breathe through wheezing congestion or take pressure off injured ribs; only able to sleep on a certain side in order to keep a wounded arm uppermost; confined to their back due to cumbersome bulky splints or bandages or to the need to keep a leg elevated; and so on...

Whumpee being manhandled into restraints:

  • Shoved up against a wall and handcuffed.
  • Pinned to the floor and handcuffed.
  • Fighting for each limb as they’re forced down on a table, slowly secured by leather restraints.
  • Overwhelmed by multiple Whumpers, each one working to subdue them.
  • Yanked back by their hair so a collar or rope can easily be fitted around their throat.
  • Pinned while in combat (double points for being caged against a wall or trapped in a chokehold)
  • Improvised restraints like belts, sheets, or clothing when Whumpee won’t be still enough to retrieve proper ones.
  • Manhandled in a hospital bed, held down for the duration of a procedure.
  • Injected with a chemical restraint, a sedative or numbing agent that quickly bleeds the fight out of them.
  • Struggling as a muzzle is wrestled over their head and secured.
  • A blow to the head that knocks Whumpee out or makes them too dizzy to fight anyone off.

out of curiosity, what are your favorite whump tropes?

There are so many, I'm definitely not remembering them all right now, here is just some but I think you could name any trope and 90% of time I'd be like oh yeah give me all of that

But, I love:

  • team whump
  • characters that are really close to each other being torn apart
  • kidnapping, captivity and rescue
  • self-sacrifice
  • pretty much any injury or torture, just blorbos getting hurt left and right in terrifying ways lol
  • mental health struggles
  • fantasy/magic whump
  • guilt
  • illness, fever, collapse, unconsciousness...

But I also love the comfort and caretaking side of whump:

  • gentle caretakers
  • found family!!!
  • can't put a name to more specific tropes right now but all this sort of stuff

Also I just laughed writing this because it's so funny to just casually be like "yeah I LOVE torture!" I hope my social media never gets investigated for any reason...

Thank you for the ask! ♡

ooh yeah those are all very good!! honestly i love using characters' love for each other (in a broad sense, not necessarily romantic love) against them! on the other hand i do love a good lone wolf too, but better when it's a character forcibly torn away from those they cared for, than ones that are alone by choice

and yeah pain is good but so is comfort! like, let them hurt, but let them also know gentleness

overuse injuries...

  • strained wrists and tingly hands for a swordfighter
  • achy shoulders after walking all day with a heavy backpack of gear and provisions
  • ears ringing and eyes dazzled after an explosion of magic
  • blisters and calluses and raw spots underneath boots or armor
  • sore fingers from pulling a bowstring back and holding at aim, welts on the inside of their forearm if the snap-back misses the armguard
  • a commander's throat worn hoarse and dry after a day of orders and discussion and explanations

none of it's bad and all of it hurts and they know it's going to happen again tomorrow, but it's worth it, it has to be worth it. and maybe someone's there to help them, and tell them it's okay to take a rest, too

hair touching.

is the hair sweat-damp? plastered to whumpee’s forehead as caretaker strokes it away, placates them after blood loss or through bouts of fever?

is it soft, freshly washed? has caretaker combed out the tangles and knots and made sure that whumpee is comfortable?

does caretaker stroke it in a soothing motion, in wide pets? do they run their fingers through it? do they just rest their hand on it and stay there, so the presence comforts whumpee?

does whumpee lean into it, or do they flinch away? is caretaker’s touch reassuring to them, or is it a trigger, a reminder of something they don’t want to face?

does whumpee ask for their hair to be touched? do they pick up caretaker’s hand and place it on their hair, or are they too weak to do that, and instead simply tilt their head in caretaker’s direction and hope they get the hint? or perhaps they’re unconscious. perhaps caretaker just strokes whumpee’s hair of their own volition.

One of my favorite comfort tropes is Caretaker seeing Whumpee smile or hearing them laugh for the first time after whatever happened to them - or for the first time ever.

And they'll silently promise themselves to do everything in their power to make that sight/sound a frequent occurrence in their life.

Hi! What are your all time favorite whump tropes?

Avatar

oh wow, asking difficult questions are we?

To be quite honest, I'm absolutely terrible at picking favorites, but let's see...

I am quite partial to broken ribs, tbh, it's a lot of fun. I guess it's the fact that it's horribly painful, but not particularly lethal in and of itself unless the ribs are displaced, and there's not really much you can do about it, just wait and let it heal

Also, starvation. I don't do it a lot, but I really enjoy it, actually

And chains! the heavier the better! funnily enough i'm not really one for long-term captivity (well, sometimes i am, but it depends a lot on character and story and circumstance, i'm not necessarily into it by default if that makes sense), but heavy chains are just such a great aesthetic and i love using it

and whipping, i haven't written that in roughly a gazillion years but i do love it!

wilderness/environmental whump as category overall is also something i love, like, whether it be hypothermia or overheating or being attacked by a wild animal or falling and spraining or breaking something and being stranded somewhere in the middle of the woods, i just love that shit. should do it more often, too :D

thanks for the ask!

im obsessed with medics.

  • amateur medic who doesnt yet know how to help, fumbling with syringes and IVs
  • experienced medic who has seen to many die
  • enemy medic who is treating whumpee begrudgingly
  • injured medic who has to rely on others for once instead of the opposite
  • malicious medic whos tired of helping and now want to use their extensive anatomy knowledge for nefarious purposes
  • softie medic whos crying on the job daily but trying to stay strong
  • exhausted medic who doesnt have the energy to take care of themself at the end of the day

just... medics

Whumper that never lies

Whumper that never lies. Think about it. Whumpee knows. Caretaker/Whumpee's team knows. Whumper says they'll never kill Whumpee, so Whumpee knows they're safe from death. Whumper says they won't hurt Whumpee today; Whumpee knows they'll get a break day. Whumpee begs for the torture to stop, so Whumper gives them an offer: Some today, some tomorrow, or none today, lots tomorrow. And Whumpee knows Whumper will follow through.

Whumper says they'll brand Whumpee? Whumpee doesn't bother begging for them to not, just for the brand to be somewhere inconspicuous. Whumper says they'll destroy Whumpee's legs? Whumper knows they'll never walk again.

Whumper sends a message to Caretaker/Whumpee's team, saying they have one week or they'll never see Whumpee again? They know they have to act, now, before they lose Whumpee forever. Does it matter that they may be walking into a trap, or to their doom? What choice do they have? The alternative is Whumper's guarantee.

A blessing and a curse, a Whumper that never lies. You'll know exactly what they will and won't do, but you know they mean it.

Fellow whumpers, I am here to break the myth that you can’t sleep after a concussion without medical attention. You can. The worry is actually the concussed person losing consciousness, which is different than sleep.

Source: I’m on concussion #8.
