Hermione Granger was going to scream at you. You were standing across from her in an abandoned hallway with a smirk on your face and arms crossed above your chest.
It was almost midnight at Hogwarts, and you had sneaked out of your dorm to get a snack when you came across Hermione doing her usual prefect duties.
"Could you leave me alone?" She whisper-shouted.
The atmosphere was eerily silent, except for your hushed whispers. Though everyone at Hogwarts knew about Hermione's and your "relationship". You had fallen for her the second you saw her. 'Love at first sight', some would say. But Hermione said differently, and so did her best friend Ronald.
Ron and Hermione were best friends, 2/3 of the golden trio. From defeating trolls together, to having various adventures. But you saw the way Ron often looked at Hermione.
"That's difficult for me to do, love!" You teased, probably louder than you should have.Â
"Turn your voice down! If any teacher hears you, we'll be serving detention!" She looked like she was going to yank her hair out, that's how much you infuriated her.
"That I know love, did you know your skin is glowing today?"
Hermione chanced a peek over your shoulder, and suddenly loud footsteps were heard, making their way towards you both.
"(L/n) please! I'll do anything, just go and hide somewhere before we get caught!"
"Anything?" You asked with a mischievous smirk adorning your face. Hermione had to shake off the feeling it gave her. She had to remind herself that you just had a mere crush on her, that's all.
"Yes, anything! Now come on!" She urged.
The footsteps were now nearer, hurriedly moving towards where you both were. You turned towards Hermione and offered the one thing she would have never agreed to, if the circumstances were different. "Come to Hogsmeade with me this weekend?"
The footsteps were now very loud and very near, as you quickly scurried off to the nearest abandoned classroom.Â
"It's a date!" You told her before vanishing from view. As she awaited the footsteps to draw closer, she heard them retreating, signifying that the person had turned away. She let out a relieved sigh, before realizing what she had just agreed to, which resulted in her face paling considerably. She couldn't believe that she agreed to go on a date with you, who was madly in love with her. She knew she should be mad or upset, but she wasn't. That's bad right?

Hermione stood with Ron at the entrance of the great hall, waiting for you. Ron had refused to leave her side to make sure you had "good intentions". Although Hermione appreciated his concern, it was still slightly annoying.Â
You trotted into the great hall and made your way over to them, with a charming grin on your face, which made Hermione's heart soar, a feeling she tried her best to ignore.
"(L/n)", spat Ron, with annoyance evident in his voice.
"Hello Weasley, if you'll excuse us I, er, need to speak to Hermione."
Hermione frowned. What was there to talk about?
Ron looked hesitantly at Hermione, receiving a nod of approval. He stepped away from her and made his way back to the dorms.
"So, um, what's wrong?" She asked you hesitantly.Â
You fidgeted on your spot. You were extremely nervous and the current situation wasn't doing you any good. You didn't want to lose the only chance you had with the girl of your dreams, after all.
"I...may or may not have gotten into trouble and....got my Hogsmeade privileges taken away for a while" you said, your hands nervously twisting the hem of your jumper.
Hermione's shoulders slumped with disappointment. Although she was supposed to be relieved that the date was cancelled, she was unhappy. However, she quickly regained her composure and sent a tight-lipped smile your way.
"Well, I guess the date is-"
"I was hoping we could spend the day in the library!" You hurriedly added. You were the library assistant, which would allow you to spend long hours in the library. You looked at her expectantly, awaiting an answer. Upon getting nothing, you continued, "if that's okay with you, I mean. I'm not forcing you".
Hearing those words made warmth and adoration blossom in Hermione's chest. She fought a smile and nodded her head. "Yeah, let's spend the day in the library."
Your eyes widened, surprised that your offer actually worked. Hermione chuckled gently at your expression, before dragging you along to the library.
You both spent your day in the library, occassionally sneaking to the kitchen to grab snacks. Although Hermione would never admit it aloud, she was actually having a great time with you. You were a fun person to be around, when you constantly weren't flirting with her, that is. You both sat at the table on the far corner of the library, with Hermione sitting in front of you, intently gazing at you.Â
"So", she started, "have any plans for next year?"Â
"I'm going to concentrate on my studies, for now. And then, dunno, become a healer maybe? That's not much of a plan."
You were almost caving in on yourself, when she nudged your knee with her foot.
"I'm sure you'll do great!" She grinned, eliciting a giggle from you, which made butterflies erupt in her stomach. "Thanks."
"And what about you, Mione?"
She toyed with her fingers, deep in thought. "I think I want to work for law enforcement, but right now, I'm trying to focus on next year."
"You want to be Head Girl, don't you?"
She looked at you in surprise. "How'd you know that?"
"A little birdie told me" you winked at her, prompting her to smack you gently with a book nearby.

Over the year, you both grew closer. You spent time with her friends and over time, they became your friends too. Well, everyone except for Ron, that is. Hermione never thought you both would get along so well. Nor did she think she'd ever see the day when she might have a tiny, indescribable, crush on you.Â
Ginny would tease her about it endlessly till she realized. It started with going to the library together, to her helping you arrange the bookshelves while laughing and giggling quietly to yourself about some silly joke. Everytime Ginny would tease her, she'd try to deny it. Until eventually giving in.Â

It was the middle of the year, when everything started going downhill. Hermione was taking a stroll across the quidditch pitch, when she saw two people having a fight. Her eyebrows furrowed together before she made her way towards the figures, speeding up when she recgnized the people involved.
"What's going on?" She screamed in confusion.
"Expelliarmus!" You shouted, sending Ron's wand flying.
Your eyes met Hermione's, and you saw the concern behind her brown orbs, immediately filling you with guilt. Ron hurriedly reached his wand, shooting a spell at you, which thankfully Hermione blocked. At this, you raised your wand and shot another spell at Ron, knocking him off his feet and into the tree behind him.
Hermione scrambled to help him get up, but he kept pushing her away. She tried pulling him up by his arm, but he kept pulling away. She tried to help him one last time, before he glared at her and spat, " I don't need your help, mudblood!"
Hermione's eyes pricked with tears. Her throat felt constricted, chest felt tight, and she couldn't believe this. Ron looked at her in sympathy, before regaining his composure. She shook her head and ran off crying, ignoring all your calls.

From that day on, she ignored the both of you as best as she could. That however, didn't stop the gossip from spreading like wildfire around Hogwarts.Â
After a rough day, she collapsed in the Gryffindor common room, burying her head into her jumper. It was late enough, and the warmth of the fireplace made her feel enticing. She almost drifted off to sleep, before she heard someone faintly calling her name.
"Hermione?" Ginny whispered gently.
"You should be in bed." She refused to meet Ginny's eyes.
"I couldn't sleep, what are you doing here?"
"Nothing." Hermione murmured. "Can I ask you something?"
Ginny sighed. "Do you want to know it really?"
"I'll have to know it someday..."
"Ron and (Y/n) got into a fight because, er, he said some things which might upset you. (Y/n) got mad, and then you showed up."
Hermione's eyes widened. You were defending her. Not because of your silly childhood crush, but because you cared about her. About her feelings.
"You should talk to her, you know." Ginny's soothing voice interrupted her train of thoughts.
"Absolutely. You both clearly like each other. Talk to her tomorrow, meanwhile I'll try and talk some sense into my brother."
"I will." At some point, they both went to bed, although Hermione was unable to sleep. There were too many thoughts all at once and she decided, whatever would happen, it would happen tomorrow, there was no more postponing.Â

"(L/n)!" You heard Hermione's voice the next day, in the library while looking through your favourite bookshelf. It was dinner time, and everyone was at the great hall, giving you both the privacy you needed."(Y/n)!"
Hermione made her way over to the bookshelf, her cheeks reddening when she saw you. Her mouth went dry, and suddenly, all thoughts of everything she had to say just left her mind.
"Hey mione", you started, ducking a little due to the height difference, "you alright?"
She gulped, nodding fervently. You smiled sheepishly before taking a step closer to her.
"I...I wanted to tell you about that day-"
"I know what happened", she suddenly cut in, regaining her confidence. "And I want to thank you. It was only a matter of time before things would eventually go downhill between Ron and I. Things got wierd when I met you, and then I began fancying you-"
"You fancy me?", you asked, surprised by her confession. You never expected her to reciprocate your feelings.
Hermione felt her heart pounding in her chest. Her breathing sped up and she avoided your wide-eyed stare. There was a minute of silence, before you both finally faced each other again.
"Yes." Her voice was soft and hesitant.Â
"I don't, how.....really?" You stuttered over your words.
"I don't know how, or why, but I do."
You opened and closed your mouth a few times, deciding on what to say, before taking a few more steps closer to her.
"Can I.....can I kiss you?"
At that moment, she smashed her lips on yours, in a long, passionate kiss. You both slowly melted into each other, smiling into the kiss. It made you fall in love with her even more.
A moment later, you both parted, grinning madly at each other. As you stared into each other's eyes, Hermione felt a warmth and comfort, which she didn't know she could feel. She wondered why it took her so long to realize her feelings, but now that she's with you, she wouldn't have it any other way. Because amidst old books and you, she felt right at home.
