I'm a huge Byler shipper but I do believe Mike loves El, and he loves her a LOT. But not romantically. He loves her in such a beautiful platonic way but confuses that for romantic love. He doesn't understand that his feelings towards Will are romantic and the feelings he has scares him, so he pushes Will away since he has no idea how to deal with these feelings. Will does understand that his feelings towards Mike are romantic but doesn't realize that Mike feels the same way about him, so he pushes Mike away in the fear that he might slip up and say something he regrets and cause Mike to alienate himself for good.

Also, look at the way Mike looks at Will and tell me he doesn't like him. Like I don't think you look at a platonic bestie like that.

Somebody needs to tell him.

it's so crazy to me that el saved every letter and little gift mike sent her and had like a mike shrine in her room and she had pictures of him sitting around meanwhile mike was crumpling el's letters and throwing them away and he doesn't have a single picture of el in his room. in fact, mike's room and basement are decked out in will's drawings. i'm going insane over this actually.
