It's my 30th bday tomorrow and I've been wanting Pikmin as a theme for a while so I scrounged some cookie cake decorations for myself last minute! I wanted them extra scrungly and gave them those big candy eyes lol
The fairy Pikmin ended up turning out the best, which is funny bc it's the one I did first to try and that one turned out horrible 😭 The pink was fine and going on but I tried the other kind and realized it was Very Runny. Rip
Also did a bonus pellet with my age that will go in the middle of the cheesecake~

Ever wondered why Wario's series declined his sales around 2008, even though he was in Smash at that point? If anything, he should have done better.
Honestly, that’s ultimately because, quite bluntly, Smash really doesn’t do as much for the franchises it features then many like to think.
It’s certainly an extra bit of advertisment, but many think of Smash as this magical ticket to success for characters and series, that it just simply never was.
To name some examples:
- While added exposure via Melee may have helped, it’s been confirmed in interviews that it was Advance Wars‘ surprisingly solid performance and warm reception in the west, that motivated the decision to localize Fire Emblem.
Even without direct confirmation, this simply makes more sense. The sales numbers and critical reception of a similar game, do a lot more to tell Intelligent Systems and Nintendo whether localizing FE is worth it, than representation in a platform fighter does.
Smash also didn’t magically make Shadow Dragon DS or New Mystery of the Emblem a success, despite them being remakes of Marth’s games. NMotE even stands out as the only FE since the series reached the west, to not recieve a localization.
Fire Emblem is where it is now not because of Smash, but because Awakening was a hit and the series has managed to hold onto that momentum.
- Mega Man 11 happened because the Legacy Collections sold so well, as revealed in interviews and not because of exposure through Smash.
- F-Zero had a major push during the GameCube era, but it didn’t work out, even with Captain Falcon’s Smash popularity in mind. Doesn’t help that F-Zero Falcon and Smash Falcon are very, very different, safe for token nods like the Falcon Puch scene in the anime, which notably get more attention than anything else, which is a bit telling.
- Sheik is in Smash AND originates from one of the most acclaimed videogames of all time, despite this, the Sheik alter-ego has yet to become a legacy recurring trait for future Zelda incernations.
Similarly, Rosalina is in Smash, but her big push dropped significantly soon after Smash 4. She has spend her time since as a spin-off regular and cameo character.
Contrast this to Toadette who doesn’t have a playable Smash outing, yet has since become the co-star of Treasure Tracker, a playable character in NSMBU Deluxe, Run and Mario Maker 2 and a supporting character in Odyssey, Paper Jam and Mario + Rabbids, ON TOP of appearing in more spin-offs then before.
- EarthBound making it to the international Wii U VC, is because of the outcry of western fans on Miiverse about wanting it and not Smash.
- Bayonetta didn’t suddenly see a sales spike, because she got added to Smash. Bayonetta 2 even failed to crack a million units, though that is also partially due to it being on the Wii U.
It would be disingenuous of me to say I don’t think Smash can have any effect. It does offer a window for people to become aware and of and get interesten in franchises that they may have known by name at best, beforehand.
As I stressed before, it just isn’t a magical tool that turns everything into a success or a big deal in it’s home series.
The successes of any series is it’s own work. Smash can help, but it’s not a crucial tool to help any series out and in many cases it really doesn’t.
Wario declining at that point can be traced back to a couple things, at least from what we can gather, but Smash didn’t do much one way or another.
I’d argue that there wouldn’t be a fan demand for Earthbound without Smash to make people know who Ness and Lucas are.
But yeah, you’re point still stands, Smash isn’t necessarily the path to mainstream success people can think it is.
Although I admit there are some smaller Nintendo series I’d love in Smash to make them part of the Nintendo “canon,” even if that’s not actually what happens.
As for the Wario decline, there aren’t any Nintendo teams focusing on Warioland right now, and the Warioware games that came out between 2008 and 2021 suffered from being a cheap tech demo (Snapped), coming out before the rise of social media spreading the word on customization in games (D.I.Y.), a side game on the Wii U (Game & Wario) and being a post Switch 3DS game (Gold)
MOTHER is the series with the biggest argument for Smash having helped it for sure, but the existing cult following for the series isn’t entirely just from that.
A significant amount of the push on Miiverse came from people that already played EarthBound through emulation and demanded it on the western VC entirely on it’s own merrits. So more people could experience it and it could be regularly featured in the ranks of titles Nintendo keeps bringing back.
Smash helps make people aware of it, but there is a reason MOTHER has a devoted following, whole few hold the torch for say, an Ice Climbers revival. The source material needs to hold up on it’s own to generate this level of support.

so apparently you can hide Nazis on Twitter by setting your location results to Germany or France because Twitter is legally required to remove Nazi content there, so Twitter always had the ability to remove Nazis, they just choose not to

It’s high key illegal to make any kind of nazi joke or gesture in Germany. People can get fired for it and in extreme cases even arrested. On my class trip to Berlin this kid thought it’d be funny to do a Nazi salute in the parking lot where hitler died (was not a destination, just happened to walk by). He was immediately pulled aside by police who legit booked him a flight home for the next day, without the rest of us. He was suspended for two weeks too.
Funny how the country responsible for this takes full responsibility and fights to make it never happen again, while the US, who spent years basing an entire identity on fighting Nazis, gives them a platform to speak freely and draft members.
