A few men in suits filtered out. If Shenkov was coming, it would take ages. The border officers would hate Soviet papers.  ‘Valera.’ He looked up slowly.  Shenkov pulled him close, which was just as well, because Valery cried. Very gently, Shenkov touched his jaw to angle his head up and rub some of the tears away. Valery couldn’t even get together a hello.

- from The Half Life of Valery K by Natasha Pulley

I loved this moment so much I made two doodles for it! (I know the colours aren’t exactly the same, because I am messy, okay? I am.) I can’t get over how soft these two are, despite their harsh surroundings - and I hope Natasha keeps working on the sequel, because I WANT IT.

Again a desperate ploy for you to read this book if you haven’t yet, so you may yell at me about it. I very much enjoy yelling about books with people.

Book launch poster for A Power Unbound, book 3 of Freya Marske/@fahye's spectacular The Last Binding trilogy which has completely taken over my brain for the last few years. See the ones I did for book 1 and 2 here (they do look nice all lined up, if I say so myself!)

This book has so much cool action and twists and turns, and one of my favourite romances of all time (it's somehow the softest and the spiciest). Added all the other characters as well because I adore them, the most hyper competent yet chaotic protagonist group ever to run amok in 1909.
