Really glad OP brought up amplification, because I learned about it way too late and I have a fun anecdote if someone wonders what that looks like in meetings, from the times known in my former Department “when That Asshole was Head of Department ™”.

That Asshole conducted meetings specifically to avoid having any idea get traction - because that would mean having to do things afterward. He would do it like that: instead of going topic by topic for meetings, he would go around the table, person by person. No way to get any sense of what the consensus is on any question, what are the things that actually matter, nothing.

The three (3!) (THREE!!!) women in this major Department in a major European University understood the game quickly. They coordinated BEFORE each meeting on which point they agreed to raise. Then strategically placed themselves at regular intervals around the table: one toward the start, one at the middle, one toward the end. And each of them would explicitly amplify what the previous one said (sometimes with a sneaky : “[argument]… which now that I think about it is also the point [previous woman] made, no?”).

It is a real thing and it is extremely effective - especially because most men in meetings do not even imagine 1) putting the extra work of coordinating before a meeting and 2) actively, purposefully crediting someone else for their idea in public.

Took me until about halfway through college before I realized “study” means “play with the material in a variety of ways until you understand it” and not just “read the assigned chapters and do the homework” and I think that probably should have been discussed at some point prior to that.

1/13/24 Saturday

Finally had my last trial today. It was moved to zoom because of the snow storm which I was fine with, EXCEPT MY ZOOM WOULDNT LET ME SHARE THE RIGHT EXHIBITS!!!!! Idk why zoom tried to sabotage me, but I’m a trial god and I moved along unbothered. My partner and I didn’t win which was expected because our murder case was built on circumstantial evidence so no one ever wins this mock case. It’s also hard to get a bunch of 1Ls we forced to be our jurors to pay attention to a 4 hour trial over zoom, oh well. Our judge was so sweet and she said we did very well and wants us to join the mock trial team she runs at our school so l think I’m going to email her about it.

Now that I’m free I can finally finish reading Remain Nameless and start Ruthless Vows before I see spoilers. I need to know what happens to my man Roman Kitt.

My eyes are bloodshot and feel like they’ve been soaked in chlorine after this week, thank god it’s over.

These days, my desk at home has been my favorite study spot. Campus gets crazy crowded during exam season, and considering it's freezing outside I have quicker access to a cup of tea 🍵
