The thing they don’t tell you about FFXIV is that it does irreparable harm to your speech

Not just the Ye Olde English pronouns, not just thinking β€œmalm” and β€œonze” are perfectly acceptable terms

It’s the very real and present desire to just go β€œPiss off, kupo” in the absolute worst moments

You're welcome! And I am going through their interactions again as Iyna plays through ShB (slowly; too many characters, too little time, and C'oretta's started EW!). Like all my EW transcripts, my Thancred and Ryne doc is available for public use regardless.

There's a lot of knee-jerk initial reaction to things said and how in a first play through, and then years of fuzzy memory, memes, fanfics, etc following making things hazier. On replays, with some benefit of knowing how it all turns out, there's a chance to analyze what's really being said, how, and why. After dealing with some...interesting takes on Thancred back when ShB was current, it made me really look at the dialogue and their scenes as I didn't always agree, but wanted to be sure it wasn't my own Favorite Character Biases.

And I have essays I could write about this, to show that it was not in fact simply favorite bias, but that's for another time.

The Miqo’te gentleman finished securing her luggage to the floating carriage. He made one last visual inspection of the air bladder, as well as a hands on check of all the ropes, before turning to the woman. With a soft shake of his head, a flick of his ears, and gentle twitch of his tail, he stepped closer, slowly offering her his hand.

β€œMiss?” He began, β€œWe’re ready to depart. It won’t take no time β€˜tall ta have you at the Landing. Ye can go inside then, get a refreshment while I get yer luggage onto the airship.”

He looked at her quiet, almost pensive stance, swaying ever so softly, in tune with the elements around her. She hadn’t heard him through her thoughts, so he went for a bit of flash, dropping into the deep flourish of a court bow. Arm sweeping from across his chest and out wide, one foot moving back behind the other as he bent his knees slightly with the dipping of his torso, even his tail swung outward, opposite of his arm. When he straightened, he smiled at her bemused expression. Since she had made no sound, the Shroud around them was quiet, he in turn, chose silence, offering her his hand and forearm, before leading her to the steps leading into the carriage. He could only imagine where she had been, and hoped she enjoyed where she was going.

brain has been like 60% ffxiv and dunmeshi lately so i decided to try and conquer my art block by combining the two and sketching tataru inspired by kui's half-foots (since lalafells are very similar average heights)
