I know we've talked about all the ways, "I hate all men EXCEPT trans men", is generally painting us not reeaallllyyy men which is fucked up, but it's also a nerve wracking position to find yourself in. Yes, I am incredibly hostile to people very much like you, but you're my exception. Who knows what will cause me to take that Exception card away from you, and when. Are you really not the enemy? Are you? Are you? Haha just checking no pressure do as I say.

In some ways, I can really understand wanting men who are safer and more understanding but like, this is scary to be on the other end of. It's controlling and you have power over me. I'm literally transgender.

"eldest daughter coded obi-wan" he's a man you clowns

the very reason "eldest daughter" is understood to be a uniquely challenging experience is because of the expectations placed on *women*

The "eldest daughter" experience has to do with the trauma of your very existence being a disappointment to your parents because firstborn ought to be sons, combined with the burden of being a second mother to the family because women are only there to wash, clean, cook, and raise kids. It's not an all purpose term for feeling like you have to be hyper helpful for any reason whatsoever (and I'd argue that's not even a trait obi-wan has), it's to do with why ELDEST DAUGHTERS are hyper helpful.

obi-wan is a man raised communally by non-relatives in a relatively sex equal society. Literally NONE of the common trauma of eldest daughters could possibly apply to him. (As a reminder before anybody says something even more stupid, he became Anakin's Master at *25*, which is absolutely not the same fcking thing as helping raise multiple siblings from the time you're 12)

Well you felt compelled to reblog my rant post to tell me I was doing it wrong, yknow. (Btw, a post prompted by one my posts about Obi-Wan and children getting tagged several times separately about how Obi-Wan is sooo 'mother-coded' and 'eldest-daughter coded'....... for liking children??) Also this is the exact opposite of a 'let men be masculine' post lmao, this is a 'stop saying that a man exhibiting any kind of gentleness or caretaking tendencies makes him no longer a man' post. The ✨exact opposite✨ And it's about how women have their experiences erased.

I understand why you might have gotten confused though, not everybody knows misogyny is a thing and gets bothered by it. Lol.

sorry just don't think playing with fictional characters erases real lived in experiences of women, that's all.

And I don't think we should never ever criticize a fandom trend that we think has some unsavoury implications just because it's only playing with fictional characters. But as I said, this isn't a dramatic call out of the whole fandom or whatever, just me, ranting on my blog about how people tagged one of my posts. You may feel like it was an unwarranted commentary and I'm free not to care, that's all.

no actor has ever, ever appeased gay fans of anything like george blagden did. “oh but sam reid said some mad shit about the vampire show”, shut up, i don’t care, he’s not fit to clean blagden’s boots. when his character’s solo verse in his one big song got cut from the movie george blagden fucking went to paris stood in front of the building it was set alone at night and recorded himself singing it. he posted himself singing a death cab for cutie song that he’d adapted to be about his gay little character and the guy he was pining for. this man was the only person outside of tumblr to give a fuck about “grantaire from the les mis movie” and he fought and died for tumblrina rights. we will never see his like again

just got a weak-ass non-reponse from one of my senators in response to the pathetic pleading our stupid fucking system forces me to have to do to stop our tax dollars from being used to murder 10,000 civilians (and counting) so out of spite here's a handy tip for folks in the us who keep getting told to call their reps and hate the phone:

when it comes to contacting your representatives, emails are better than nothing and phone calls answered by a person do have an effect, but another hard-to-ignore way to send a message is to send a letter that politicians and their staffers have to physically handle in order to address and physically dispose of in order to ignore its contents—or, just as good as a letter, a good old-fashioned fax

i've been using faxzero.com. it has pages that link to pre-populated forms to directly fax your senators, congressional representatives, and governors. you can send five faxes a day for free, and if enough people do that our representatives' offices could be filled with an obnoxious volume of paper faxes begging them to stop funding mass murder

i know a lot of leftists have mixed feelings on contacting representatives at best. personally, i hate it and usually find it a humiliating waste of political energy better spent elsewhere. however, getting politicians onboard is the fastest way to get the bombings to stop and any indignity is worth enduring if it stops the slaughter still going on as i write this. and for real, it's easy and occasionally a little cathartic. so, please, for the sake of the millions still left in gaza, flood your shitty senator's office until they can't ignore us anymore

I’ve been in contact with some community organizers and some local orgs, and I want to put the word out about the protest of Gal Gadots propaganda film screening. There has been messaging on other social media sites but I’m posting to tumblr just in case.

Do Not Come if you aren’t Jewish.

This event is taking place at the Museum of Tolerance in Los Angeles. For those unaware, that’s the holocaust museum. The optics are bad. They want to make us look bad. This event is designed to agitate, and the safety of our Palestinian brothers and sisters is our top priority.

We believe the only people who can meaningfully protest are our Jewish brothers and sisters. Please, sit this out if that doesn’t apply to you.

neither “that’s not canon” nor “fuck canon we made this all up” but a secret third thing (canon shouldn’t be taken as gospel but is useful as a reference point for building upon and recontextualizing characters and details. if you worship the source material as unchangeable then fandom in general probably isn’t for you. if you have complete disdain for the source material you would probably enjoy yourself more in a different fandom)

The five deadly sins of transformative fandom:

  • Treating popular fanon regarding a character as authoritative, and getting angry at people whose feelings toward that character are informed by the version who appears in the actual text
  • Conflating “it’s possible to construct this particular narrative from elements present in the text” with “this is the narrative the text in fact presents“
  • Dismissing criticism of a particular aspect of the text on the grounds that you can imagine some hypothetical context in which the cited elements wouldn’t be problematic
  • Elevating a particular body of fan-work above the source material, and acting like anybody whose fandom doesn’t take the former into account is missing the point
  • Getting so immersed in a deep subtextual reading that you reflexively assume anyone who has an issue with the explicit text of the source material is engaging in bad faith
