Alright, fandom, we gotta talk. There are a lot more of you on this website that loves Designated Survivor in the US but who don’t actively talk about it and we need all of you. Every single one of you, because I have an ambitious ask.

This week, the 16th May, is our season finale. Notice I am stressing season because eOne, the production company (they own The Mark Gordon Company fully), is in active discussions to find us a new home. Most likely on Netflix but they are probably open to everyone and anyone. The international sales are most definitely the golden goose for DS, as it is much more popular on international markets than it is in the American market.

So, that is this ambitious ask, I hear you all proclaiming. Well, here goes.

Let’s try and get the ratings to a 1.0

We haven’t been at a 1.0 since October, even though our +7 ratings show that people haven’t abandoned the show, they just don’t watch it live because that’s not how most people consume their entertainment nowadays. The +7s are still important too, so if you can’t watch tomorrow don’t worry… just watch it on your DVR. Watch it more than once. Stream it. If you’re not in the US? Watch it on Netflix. That counts too.

Let’s help eOne have the best bargaining position that they can possibly have to save our show and show the world that we aren’t ready for the Kirkman Administration to end.

ALRIGHT DS FANS. YOUR SHOW NEEDS YOU.

This week’s episode will be the last before the annual ABC upfronts (which are held the day before the finale) and the ratings ACTUALLY MATTER. So encourage anyone you know who likes the show to watch it as soon as they can. 

This counts for worldwide fans (though not Germany, weirdly. We need you to watch 2x20 that I believe is available there on Friday) who watch on Netflix too. YOUR VIEWS COUNT. International Netflix figures, while not shared like the ratings are, are shared in distribution agreements like the one ABC has with Netflix for DS. 

Can’t watch tomorrow night live? No problem, unless you’re a Nielsen household it likely doesn’t matter anyway, not for the live ratings but your streaming views on ABC/Hulu and your DVR recordings *do* count. Though for the DVR ratings, 2x20 may be better again because the Live+7 for 2x20 will be out. So if that is on your DVR watch it, then watch it again just because it was a really good episode. (You’d know if you were a Nielsen household so don’t worry about it).

The biggest thing though… social media. We don’t have an amazingly interactive cast but we do have an interactive PR team and they DO pay attention to how many tweets are in the tag, and how many people are watching on Facebook. So annoy your relatives with checking in to watch the show on Facebook and get tweeting. Use the hashtag #DesignatedSurvivor and @ABCDesignated when you’re tweeting. Make them see that we love this show.

Rumours and speculation have largely been good, but we’re not out of the woods and it’s not a done deal. They could still decide to pull the show for next season and that’s it, cancelled, it’s too late now for another network to snap us up. Netflix would still be a possibility but a long-shot right now. 

I know we’ve had a rough season, and we’ve all had a lot of things happen that we maybe didn’t appreciate. But let’s get together behind it and get our show a third season. 

Save me from the feels of all this. Since I’m drowning in sorrow and misery as a write I decided that @meredithbrody could come along for the ride.

Just an fyi, if you defend Brad Kern fucking unfollow me right this second. What he did to Zoe McLellan and has done to the crew of that show in the last 2 years is abhorrent and wrong. 

I have also lost so much respect for Scott Bakula for not doing more to either stop it or call it out.
