Okay, here's my idea:

The British should put a time limit on the Monarchy.

Not like declaring a republic tomorrow, but deciding on a date in the future that ends the British Monarchy.

And there's a perfect date for it coming up!

October 14th, 2066.

A thousand years since the Battle of Hastings. A thousand years of this one specific bloodline ruling England.

Call time on the Monarchy after exactly one thousand years. Nice, and neat.

Even better: Charles isn't living 44 years. He'll be gone in about twenty. Now William? He's what, 40? Yeah, he can live another 44 years. His great grandmother was over a hundred, his granny was 96, William can make it to 84 barring accident or assassination.

So on October 14th 2066, William the Last steps down a thousand years after William the First won the crown.

Nice, neat, and fair. William gets the crown he's been waiting forty years for already, but ten-year-old George grows up without expectation of it.

Have a nice big abdication ceremony, even.

Plus, what an absolute baller move to announce your regnal name as William the Last.

Tehran, Iran - Early 1990s.

Teenagers who were following bands, and especially certain bands like Depeche Mode, who has, like, Martin Gore, has a crossdressing thing going… at that time was really forbidden. And people like us, who were following the band, and we were having the same haircut and, you know, wearing the leather jacket and stuff like this, we were in the spotlight. We used to get caught and beaten by police.

I know people in America and Europe, they take it as granted that they can get the records anywhere and can listen to anything they want. They go to concerts. But it was really difficult for me to find just a single poster of Depeche Mode, or just a single music of Depeche Mode.

Yes, such a claim makes him look like a small-minded piece of shit. To us. But we still shouldn't help Musk create revisionist history.

Musk bought Twitter because he fucked around and found out. He wanted to fuck with Twitter's stock price by feigning interest in buying it. Since that's illegal, he was then cornered into actually buying it for an insanely inflated price.

He's a transphobe. He's a bad father. But he's also a fucking idiot.

This. Please remember that he committed blatant market manipulation by not disclosing that he owned shares of Twitter when he was fucking with the stock market. The SEC was watching him very closely already, and so when the cost became more than what the entire company was worth, he had no choice. Remember when he had his gaggle of lawyers try to get him out of it by saying Twitter didn't disclose all of the information? That wasn't Twitter, it was him trying desperately to get out of a purchase he didn't want in the first place.

We're living in like 1950s levels of conservatism & moral panic etc etc and it feels like it's just me and like two other people who are seeing this shit. Genuinely insanity inducing

See the thing is that my first instinct is to compare it to the victorian era but they were actually doing better. The 1950s featured a lot of Actively Going Backwards because of like post-war whatever & the political climate is WEIRDLY similar right now. Like. Tradwives are a thing. People think The Gays are trying to Corrupt Their Children. Everybody thinks russia and china are Coming To Get You. Where am I

The self-proclaimed progressives are on like the "women can have jobs! & still be 100% gender conforming 🌸" level of feminism & the self identified conservatives are mad. What year is it. C'mon guys wwiii hasn't even started yet

everytime I remember that lesbian couple that have a marble statue of the two of them embracing and sleeping on a bed together over where their graves will be because the artists didn’t believe they would be able to be married before they died, so what they couldn’t have in life they could have in death, I fucking breakdown

memorial to a marriage; patricia cronin

“on july 24th, 2011- the first day that same sex marriage was legal in new york state, particia cronin and deborah kass got married. that same year the marble ‘memorial to a marriage’ was replaced with a bronze version. rainwater pools in the space between their two sculpted bodies, and falling leaves catch on the metal in the autumn. the two women sleep peacefully through snow and ice, and the scorching days of summer. over time the hands of cemetery visitors will wear down the bronze, burnishing it into a smooth shine. one day this will mark the final resting place of the two women. and someday people will have to remember that there was a time, long ago, when this was a memorial to a marriage that two women never thought they’d have.”

Hozier writing Francesca: what if every horrible thing you've ever been through has led you, or will yet lead you, to someone you love so much you'd do it all again. What if the suffering is all worth it, not from a religious standpoint but because of someone you love. What if that's all there is - heaven and hell couldn't care less about us, but we care for one another. We endure the unspeakable for one another. What if heaven won't let us in but we wander together through the darkness for eternity knowing we acted in love and having no regrets. What if heaven can't contain people of complexity and passion like ours. What if we were offered the opportunity and we said we'd do it all again.

"The trannies should be able to piss in whatever toilet they want and change their bodies however they want. Why is it my business if some chick has a dick or a guy has a pie? I'm not a trannie or a fag so I don't care, just give 'em the medicine they need."

"This is an LGBT safe space. Of COURSE I fully support individuals who identify as transgender and their right to self-determination! I just think that transitioning is a very serious choice and should be heavily regulated. And there could be a lot of harm in exposing cis children to such topics, so we should be really careful about when it is appropriate to mention trans issues or have too much trans visibility."

One of the above statements is Problematic and the other is slightly annoying. If we disagree on which is which then working together for a better future is going to get really fucking difficult.

I wonder how many people learned this was a thing they could do by seeing the sign

Well I for one just learned that. Thanks for the tip!

When I was landscaping I referred to this as "pirating a plant" since the original is still there but now I have a clone growing in my house and if that clone is successful I can prop it out to other people, like "seeding" but you know, no seeds just clones.

Restaurants stay in business either by having dedicated regulars or by attracting new customers. Large restaurant chains rely on coordinated ad campaigns to create expectations and unified experiences. These are independent of the quality of the food.

If a restaurant survives without clear ways to attract new customers (especially in a manner that might repulse customers such as lacking extras or aesthetics) then it is evidence that the food itself must be the reason the restaurant survives. This is not a guarantee, but if combined with good reviews, one can take this as a good sign of quality.

These kinds of restaurants are common in cities, but aren't easy for tourists to find.

I always tell people to look near gas stations for Mexican restaurants for this very reason
