Mom & Me & Mom - Maya Angelou
GoodReads: 4.16/5 Kafkalit: 4.2/5
This book is obviously about the relationship between Maya Angelou and her mother. Angelou was abandonned from a very young age to the care of her grandmother and finally came back to her mother’s house when she was 13. We see their journey of building their relationship that never had a chance to exist before and it’s quite magical.
The relationship was tender, clumsy, and very complicated between them but the beauty and pureness of it was mesmerizing. We see how much Angelou suffered through life but beyond that, we see how strong the bond she had with her mother made it all ‘’okay’’ in the end.
It was so captivating that I read it in two nights and was fighting against my fatigue just to see it through the end. I ended up closing the book touched by the words of Angelou and her way of looking through her life with introspection and bravery. It is the first time I read one of her book and now I see what there is to this marvellous human being. I can’t wait to grab another of her book and know more about her.
