“So…you are being framed! Well just tell them that they will let you out!”

Baruch had no idea what prison or criminal justice was like. Honestly, why would he? Even though his mother had been involved in a court case with the man that caused his father’s death, she tried to distance him from that as much as possible.

“I will find someone and tell them!”

           ❛ It.. doesn’t quite work like that Baruch. Though I am pleased to hear that you would go defend me. While they have some things pointing to me, I do not believe it is enough to actually convict me of the crime. This all should be over relatively shortly, or at least I hope. ❜

           Despite the seemingly somewhat grim event, Layton smiled at the boy, and tried to keep him calm and perhaps not go cause more trouble than necessary. However, Layton was a bit curious about other things, and wanted to know.

           ❛ How did you find out about this, by the way. Did someone tell you? ❜

“Yes! I would love you to help! I will make sure to come and visit you though, and bring over soup or cookies some time!”

After a pause, he frowned at his plate.

“W-well. A couple people might still tell me I am just like Jean for what I did, but…I am not worried much anymore! Plus I miss home, most of my stuffed animals are there! And Asher, the kitty!”

            ❛ Baruch, the best advice that I am able to give about those who say you are like Jean is to ignore them. If they continue to judge you, then I say that they do not know how you really are. It might do you some good to be around you. ❜

           He chuckled at the idea of the kitten, as well as his stuffed animals. Luke was the same way, though the boy would probably deny it to everyone. He nodded, and smiled kindly.

            ❛ I would very much appreciate that. And I will be sure to invite you if I have any tea parties. ❜

Lavender eyes, sharp and focused, shot daggers at any that dared to linger on for more than a moment. Even if they figured he was a tourist like she was originally thinking, she still didn’t want to take any chances and deal with people asking one too many questions. “Worry not, Professor. You are not a bother in the least.” she replied as she gestured for him to follow her. If anything, it was a nice break from routine.

“There is a small cafe just a few blocks from here that serves, in my opinion, decently made tea, as well as other pastries and the like. I figured we could stop by there and continue our conversation if you would like? Unless, of course, you have something else in mind?”

          He followed her without question after that. Looking around as she asked, he looked back at her, the simple smile never leaving his face. Even when facing unfamiliar surroundings and strange sights, he had learned to keep his composure and to act as normal as possibly. After all, panic was what caused more problems than the actual source.

           ❛ That sounds like an excellent spot to converse. I can’t say that I would refuse a good cup of tea at the moment either. Please, lead the way. ❜

      “ …Yeah. Okay. Can you just sign this stating I showed up? ” The bluenette leaned on the table, groaning slightly. The doctor was impatient and wanted to just go on to the office to state she’d shown up to the class and that she was ready to head out to be the on sight doctor for this excavation.

           ❛ I hate to be trouble, however I cannot remember you attending. Do you still have notes, or perhaps a fellow peer saying you did as well. I fear my eyesight is not what it was, and if you didn’t make it known to me before than I wasn’t aware you were there. Why are you so keen on going on this expedition if I may ask, Ms .Lilucious? ❜

[Questions of Reunion]

“What? She already proved herself! With the mysteries, her skills, how did she not-” Luke took a deep breath before his own voice decided to grow louder, and his next words were so tiny. “How could she think she wasn’t worthy to be your assistant, professor?”

Who was going to protect him when the professor wasn’t there? Who would tease him about being the second assistant(Okay, he didn’t mind this part too much, but it was still a good memory). This inheritance dispute would be a new chapter. Luke wasn’t sure how to feel about this.

           ❛ I know... Luke. I don’t know why she felt the need to prove herself. Perhaps it was because she felt that what trust she had built was based upon a lie... either way, I do not wish that she had left. However, if she felt the need to, then I wouldn’t stop her.... ❜

          The Professor looked down for a second, before taking a deep breath. And just like that, he was back to giving that calming smile. It was obvious that he was upset, and Luke was one of the few he would show that around. However, he also knew when he needed to help calm down the other, and encourage him. He smiled and looked up.

           ❛ However my boy, a true gentleman might be sad when a friend departs, they smile and think about the next time that they will see them. ❜

“If you are talking about what happens to me, I didn’t think it through, cause it wasn’t something to think about, at the time. In general though, I was thinking of getting you out, that’s all. Of course I was shocked, but..” 

He trailed off, not finishing his sentence. How he wished he was a good liar right now.

           ❛ As was I when I had been apprehended as the culprit. However like I always say a calm and collected mind will see through, As I know that there could be no way that I was found guilty due to the fact I had not done it, I wasn’t worried. In fact I was more worried about you and how you would handle all of it. I see my concern was not misplaced... ❜

i know we don’t really live together, but, well. you’re not used to going alone anymore, and… i’ve been bored since i got my prosthetic. besides, it’s dangerous to go all alone.

          He stood silent for a second, as if contemplating it, before finally nodding. She had a point. She wouldn’t be standing here if she were not sure, or at least if she were not the majority sure. While going alone was not out of his comfort level, it was something he hadn’t done in quite a while and it was nice to know that he would have someone with him.

           ❛ Well then, if you are sure, Flora, then I would love to have you accompany me on this expedition. ❜

“I am thinking clearly, Professor. You’re the one freaking out here. Not me. And rumors can go very far, Professor, and many begin to believe it as truth sometimes. And why would you care? You have Flora, right?”

The boy ignored the part where he had said he was ‘trying to protect him’, though he seemed surprised by it. 

      ❛ Are you? How well ahead have you thought out this plan of yours, Luke? And- What do you mean why would I care? Luke I care for you! I want to protect you, and this is something that I don’t have any way of assisting. ❜

     He kept pushing, trying to get Luke to think rationally about this.

… i guess i just have nothing to do. and with luke gone, i can’t… really see you going off alone ending well, professor.      i guess i’m worried.

      ❛ Worried? Why would you be- ❜

     He was surprised by the sentiment, yet all the same was rather hesitant.

      ❛ I can’t say that I enjoy going off alone but- are you sure? ❜

One of the things I really want to try and explore with him and that I haven’t really been able to yet is his relationship with the Feys.

Mia: While replaying T&T, he pretty much starts the flashback case at the river by commenting on her looks. In present cases, when presenting Mia’s profile, he’ll talk about stuff like how everyone on the force knew her and how they’d all lost a really great friend that day and still very nearly cries about her death two-three years later just talking about it. It’s possible he had a crush on her at some point, but regardless of whether or not he still had that crush I think the fact that he’s still so upset about her death two/three years later could hint at them having known each other more than just him being another cop she knew.

Maya: It kinda started out horribly between them because he arrested her as a suspect in her sister’s murder and after that she was just kinda everywhere with Nick and both became the #1 pair of people he didn’t want to see on a crime scene, but after the Hammond case he really started taking a liking to her. He was deeply moved and impressed by her actions while helping defend Edgeworth, really upset when she got accused of murdering Dr Grey, pretty much got fired trying to help Nick in his investigation and chased Shelly to rescue her and crashed his car trying to bring evidence back to Nick as he ran past multiple red lights, and rebuilt a whole bridge on his own in the mountains in the middle of winter just so Nick could try and rescue her on the other side.

Pearl: It’s pretty clear he loves and gets along with kids in general, but he keeps making efforts to impress her or cheer her up by showing her things (even when they’re things he probably shouldn’t) or even just outright giving them to her (she was really excited about getting a map of the Gatewater Hotel from him and showed it off to Nick, but had to leave it with him because she couldn’t read any of it.) In the last JFA case, the morning after the murder, Nick muses about the fact that he probably wouldn’t have made it back to the agency if Gumshoe hadn’t been very gently and patiently walking with crying Pearl while holding her hand that night.

TLDR I need Gumshoe to talk to more Fey people dammit

// Actually with pearl, that part didn’t surprise me at all. I just got to that scene/part, where Gumshoe helped walk her back. Not only does it sound like he did it to be nice, i kinda see it as he was the only one who could even get her to do things in that state. Think about how next Nick said they had to wait for the detention center to open, yet they went early anyways cause Pearl was wanting to go. Gumshoe was the only one able to like, really talk to her and get her to do stuff, probably cause he could calm her down with his friendly attitude and keep trying to be positive.

//gumshoe just needs more love in general. I don’t think he’s actually all that ditzy, ya know? Like when he gives Wright information on ‘accident’ on some of the cases. Like he knows he’s not supposed to tell, yet Wright manages to get the information. I never thought it was that he couldn’t keep his mouth shut, and since I haven’t played this case yet I’m not entirely sure, but he knows not to mention the hostage situation to any of the other police force. I think he helps Nick and Maya (or just nick idek man im only on the second game) because he can tell stuff is wrong. and it’s not like the misleading is in every case he’s ever done. There are plenty of arrests and stuff if you think about it in between the cases. But especially after Edgeworths trial, and even before that with the Steel Samurai considering how much edgeworth liked the character, I bet he was ‘accidentally’ slipping information because he actually wanted their help, you know?

“I think I am ready to go home now.”

It had actually been quite a while since he’d left.

“But! Thank you very much for letting me stay here! I really appreciate it and I had fun here!”

      ❛ Well, would you like assistance gathering your things and getting back home? Despite knowing the way, I still fear it might be a rather long journey and I don’t want anything to happen. ❜

     He smiled, after the initial shock was gone. He wasn’t sad that Baruch was leaving, however it was a rather unexpected comment. He was glad, however. Perhaps now he could stop avoiding Brenda and not worry about getting caught. But Baruch didn’t need to know that.
