EXILE- TAYLOR SWIFT
Exile is a song written and recorded in calamity and brokenness, it has a touch of dramatic humility in it. Maybe, the best art, for Taylor, comes out in the almost endings.
Freedom that translates to excruciating pain of heartbreaks. A desire to be loved, after being pulled apart, in a way where the brokenness and stitches are touched tenderly, and not with disgust.
Exile might be one of Taylor Swift’s most dramatic exercises in humility, as she allows Justin Vernon of Bon Iver to open the song alone. Swift centers her partner’s perspective, implicitly acknowledging her own fallibility. Even the cracks in Vernon's voice seem to imitate fragility embodying an unnerving discomfort that seeps through the cracks of a broken heart and just refuses to ever leave.

The desperation in Taylor's voice when she sings "I gave so many signs" And "I am not your problem anymore", the haunting realization that the tiny habits that made you fall hard for someone, now exist only in tolerance or disgust, and not being able to do anything about it anymore and just giving up.

The symbolism used in the bridge of exile is so significant that it breaks me.
The use of the absolute 'never' creates an outright conclusion where one person must be right and the other, wrong. It clarifies that someone is at fault and then the blame is assigned, as a general rule, on the other person.

And I didn't like the ending/
How exile is just a relationship in its closing will always haunt me in my dreams. Something so beautifully tragic finally coming to an end as the song goes in a loop and nothing sums up the reoccurance perfectly than "I've seen this film before"- a tragedy repeating itself throughout the entire album but you don't want to give up on it yet because it consumes you whole.
In exile we get the "second third and hundredth chances" which eventually lead to "now I'm in exile seeing you out" signifying the breakup and then there's the parallel between both of the songs' bridges.
'This is the last time you'd tell me I've got it wrong'.
'This is the last time I'd say it's been you all along'.
'This is the last time I'll let you in my door'.
'This is the last time I wont hurt you anymore'.
Those were all warning signs that they gave each other but didnt hear out.

The best part about the song is, how Taylor is saying that, it's okay, it's okay to leave a situation that is mentally scarring and breaking. It describes the feeling of being hurt, knowing how things are going to be, seeing the same signs in a circumstance and you know exactly where it will end.
But Taylor resolves to leave out the side door to create her own vision of love, one unmoored from the notions of fate because even exile is a type of freedom.
