hi there, i'm dey and i'm an artist! use whatever pronouns you'd like. i mainly do visual illustrations, comics, and doodles, but i dabble in animation, poetry, and writing on occasion.

i've been ok! struggling a bit with mental health and stuff, but i have a therapy appt this thursday. i'm hoping i'll feel better soon and get back to drawing, which helps me a lot!

hiya! i won't be particularly helpful when it comes to this, because most of my composition either stems from an idea in my head or fucking around and finding out. i don't tend to think about the fundamentals because they're engrained in my head, lol

however! i took out my trusty tablet and stylus and did a bit of analysis on the drawing you're talking about, in hopes that it'll help :]

general composition stuff. when i came up with this, i knew the diagonal wave was something i wanted to do. it's inspired by the official art of marin finding link on the beach in concept and pose, but the composition is drastically different because i wanted to focus more on the characters and didn't care about the egg for this one. i chose to put them slightly off center to make it interesting, and to balance out the weight link's tail would add to the drawing.

here are some contrast choices i made. don't underestimate the power they have for your composition! when you think about composition, the path your eye follows is important, and contrast is one of the influences on that path. link and marin have the highest contrast so your eye instantly jumps there and likes to linger there. there's some gradients to make the background fade into closer contrast so you look at them a bit less. this contrast method was also applied to her shield: if it popped too much, you'd want to look at that instead of the characters. you'll also notice i increased the saturation as well for link and marin, which is another determining factor for where your eye goes.
