white people in fandoms genuinely make me sick.

whenever white people, specifically white people who hold influence in certain fandoms, ignore negative portrayals of characters of color in media and shrug it off by saying "the (white) creators of [media] cant be expected to make everything about representation perfect," you set us all fucking back.

all of the people of color who made countless of criticisms about the media the enjoy, only for one (1) white person in a fandom with influence to say their criticisms "lacked nuance" or were "horribly misplaced", will send their followers flying down to harass those who have called out bigotry in certain media.

I genuinely cannot understand what's wrong with saying "hey, this scene/chapter had racist aspects, and that's not ok". Does it make you that angry that people of color are frustrated by misrepresentation, or the lack of rep?!

God. I'm so done.

ANAKIN’S DARK ROBES

STAR WARS PREQUELS APPRECIATION WEEK > 10/14 - Favorite Outfit(s): The tunics, robes, and cloaks worn by the Jedi are honored traditions, but not uniforms. From the time they become Padawans, Jedi are free to dress as they choose. Anakin Skywalker breaks tradition in his garments, both in their color and material. His distinctive dark clothing makes him stand out at the Jedi Temple and draws concerns from Jedi elders. ~ Star Wars Visual Dictionaries

[ID: Nine gifs of Anakin Skywalker from Attack of the Clones (aotc) and Revenge of the Sith (rots), highlighting his dark robes attire.Β In each of the rows, the gifs on the sides are facing towards the center gifs (with the exception of the first gif in the third row). Each gif has text on the bottom left of it, highlighting the op, readingΒ β€œDirectors-eyes.”  Β

In the first row, Anakin is wearing the full robes; the first and third gifs are from aotc, whereas the middle gif is from rots. The first gif has a light background, and shows Anakin taking a few steps to the right, before stopping. The middle gif has a dark background, and Anakin is walking towards the audience, with the hood of the dark robes on. The last gif in the row has a light background and Anakin was fidgeting with something on a desk behind him, before turning to the left, looking between his left and the audience.

The second row showcases the tunic under the robes; the first and third gifs are from rots, and the middle gif is from aotc. The first gif has a dark background, and Anakin dramatically removes the robes, revealing his dark tunic. The middle gif has a light background, and Anakin is adjusting the edge of the robes, to keep it in place, before looking to his left, then back towards the audience. The last gif in the row has a light background, and Anakin in his dark tunic, sitting on Padme’s couch, before standing up and walking towards the left, looking annoyed.Β

The third row also showcases the tunic underneath the robes; the first and third gifs are from aotc, and the middle gif is from rots. The first gif has a dark background. Anakin is facing the left, and his lightsaber has been edited to be white. The middle gif has a light background, and Anakin is smiling at Padme, whom is offscreen. The last gif in the row has a dark background, and people milling around behind him. Obi-Wan (offscreen) hands Anakin his lightsaber. End ID]Β

hmmmm....really telling that the canon interracial relationship with no white people is far less popular than the crack ship with two white people

[ID: A screencap of Gon Freecss from the manga. His eyesbrows are furrowed, his eyes and mouth wide. He looks comedically rageful. End ID]

op is not comedically rageful.

why is it that whenever a character does something somewhat unlikeable or questionable or immature you all immediately call it abusive. and then some of you turn around and thirst for ozai. make it make senseΒ

i’m actually really mad about this right now because some of you will take one look at nuanced, positive poc rep and mischaracterize them as abusive and not realize how much racism underlies those views. i’m the last person to lick bryke’s boot but so many people felt seen when mai talked about how her parents treated her! so many people needed to see a character like aang on screen, a boy who was sweet and kind, who’s religion was respected by the narrative, and a boy allowed to be feminine! someone like korra, a strong, queer,Β brown girl as the lead of a popular tv show!Β

not only does it feel so racist to read positive rep in bad faith, you’re warping both your own and other people’s perception of actual abuse. the more you talk about abuse as if literally everyone does it (because all the reasons you say aang is abusive are literally just regular flaws/the product of being immature bc he’s an actual child), it makes it harder for people to detect actual abuse, and perpetuates victim-blaming (like how people mischaracterize mai as abusive when she is an abuse victim herself, acting as a trauma response). so get over your ships and have a little respect.
