he loves threading his fingers through chris’ hair, although it doesn’t often go without protest. ollie’s usually in danger of messing up the taller boy’s trademark shark-fin, but now, when its just them, appearances don’t really matter. slowly he pulls his fingers through, twirling the strands around thin fingers.
‘ really? you’re not? ’
sarcasm drips from each of oliver’s words, a smirk tugging at the corner of his already wide smile. though the kiss to his neck sets his nerves on fire, his chest lifting as he draws in a long breath, somewhat shaky.
‘ well, in black and white? i think you’re really great. and really hot. and… and i really love times like this. ’
tucked away against his neck still, chris is grateful ollie can’t see the puzzled look crossing his face at being called hot, of all things. by oliver charlton, the boy who’s on a whole other level. still, the confession bubbles in his chest and warms his ears. “ wasn’t trying to fish for compliments, just for the record. “ with a wriggle, chris pulls himself further up; he’d rather face the other blond for this little heart-to-heart. steeling himself, he takes his time to choosing his words. “ but ... i’m glad. i think you’re amazing, and i’m still not 100% convinced this isn’t a dream -- so. “

he tries his hardest to ease chris’ nerves, soft, gentle touches trace their way across the taller boy’s back and sides. green eyes stare up at the other blonde, a lazy smile crossing his lips as their eyes meet. oliver doesn’t want chris to be nervous, he doesn’t want their only confident moments to be when they’re drunk. he lifts himself from the mattress to peck chris’ lips again.
the closeness brings a wide smile to oliver’s face, deep dimples settling in the middles of his cheeks. a hand raises to lace thin fingers through the other’s hair as he holds chris against his neck.
‘ it’s close. ’
normally, he would protest the fingers in his hair, but with a winning combination of bedhead and old product chris’ guess is that it can’t get much worse as it is. and then there’s the fact that it feels nice. he sprawls a little more freely across the shorter boy, making himself comfortable. “ the same thing goes for you, by the way. just... tell me what’s on your mind. i’m told i can be -- well -- not-great with hints. “ he underlines it with a kiss to the side of ollie’s neck; not with the intention of teasing, rather than just wanting to show a little affection with minimal movement.

ollie can’t stop smiling. it’s not so much the nature of chris’ admission that has him beaming from ear to ear ( as he was already pretty sure chris likes him back ) but rather that he actually said it. he pecks at chris’ lips, smiling up at him. freckled cheeks are stained pink again as he pulls chris’ body towards his own for a light hug.
‘ never apologise cochise. and never be scared. i always want you to be up front with me, okay? ’
“ who said anything about scared, now? “ he knows he’s fronting, and he knows ollie knows, so he doesn’t even bother with trying to sound convincing, rather than poking fun at himself. of course he’s scared shitless of SCREWING UP, this very new thing not working out for some reason or another, not knowing what kind of expectations the other might have -- or doesn’t have. a surprised little chuckle puffs past his lips at the familiar nickname. the hug and ollie’s words help settle his nerves for the moment; he squeezes a little closer, momentarily tucking his face into the crook of ollie’s neck. “ is this UP FRONT enough? “
