things i witnessed today at LA Pride

  • queer policemen and fbi agents walking hand in hand with their partners and spouses.
  • a cute girl running out of the parade to give @stormsdameron her number
  • cops openly embracing people in the street
  • a man who had been attending LA pride since 1976. he shook my hand and said “when I first came to pride back then there were 25 people here. look at us now.”
  • elderly queer people blowing kisses from a float. holding hands.
  • a woman approaching us and saying “you are so beautiful, all of you, take care of each other”
  • elementary school trans-children in gender ambiguous clothes. smiling and laughing. blowing bubbles.
  • when an anti-lgbt church began protesting and walking along side the parade with a loudspeaker, the entire brigade of Dykes on Bikes revved their motor cycles to drown out the hate speech. no one could hear them
  • a man who gave us all a handful of condoms and said “take care of each other. be strong. your voices are so important”
  • women holding hands with other women. men holding hands with other men.
  • trans-women and trans-men laughing and dancing.
  • danny devito in a rainbow shirt pointing and waving at us
  • mac from It’s Always Sunny wearing a shirt that says “You Can Pee Next to Me”
  • dozens of last minute signs and tributes to orlando. outcries of “we love you orlando”
  • confetti. dancing in the streets.
  • people supporting each other in every aspect. high fives. hugs. kisses on cheeks. affirmations.
  • so many affirmations.
  • words of kindness.
  • you are beautiful.
  • you are loved.
  • you are important.
  • stay strong.
  • i love your shirt.
  • i love your lipstick.
  • stay strong.
  • take care of each other.
  • stay strong
  • stay strong
  • stay strong.

Imagine how pissed you have to be to engrave a rock

Ok but there was this guy called Ea-nasir who was a total crook and would actually cheat people ought of good copper and sell them shit instead. The amount of correspondences complaining to and about this guy are HILARIOUS.

Are you telling me we know about a specific guy who lived 5000 years ago, by name, because he was a huge asshole

More like 4000 years ago but yes. Ea-nasir and his dodgy business deals.

And we haven’t even touched on the true hilarity of the situation yet. Consider two additional facts:

  • He wasn’t just into copper trading. There are letters complaining about Ea-nasir’s business practices with respect to everything from kitchenwares to real estate speculation to second-hand clothing. The guy was everywhere.
  • The majority of the surviving correspondences regarding Ea-nasir were recovered from one particular room in a building that is believed to have been Ea-nasir’s own house.

Like, these are clay tablets. They’re bulky, fragile, and difficult to store. They typically weren’t kept long-term unless they contained financial records or other vital information (which is why we have huge reams of financial data about ancient Babylon in spite of how little we know about the actual culture: most of the surviving tablets are commercial inventories, bills of sale, etc.).

But this guy, this Ea-nasir, he kept all of his angry letters - hundreds of them - and meticulously filed and preserved them in a dedicated room in his house. What kind of guy does that?

Just take a moment to appreciate this work. All I have ever wanted was an actual 3D Millenium Puzzle that that actually works as a puzzle. In these few images you are able to see the process that it took to create a replica of the Millenium Puzzle. Visit the source link for more images and details.

UPDATE: AVAILABLE FOR PURCHASE Follow the Google Form to place your order as well as look at their Facebook page for more details on the two colors available. Light Orange and White. Price is $250 and is a total of 33 Piece. View Order Details

I think it should be worth $50. As a Yu-Gi-Oh! fan, normally I’d buy it without a second thought… but as a puzzle, $250 is above the “worth it” zone for me.

Honestly for all the work that went into this, the fact that it’s not mass produced and is an actual 33 piece puzzle makes it worthy of the price. I honestly am not sold on the colors and material if there was a metallic/gold finish I would buy in a heartbeat. This is still really amazing though.
