Currently, BTS trash

@manggaetteokkie / manggaetteokkie.tumblr.com

Multifandom trash, occasionally writes a little if I'm not procrastinating. Current ships: WenZhou (SHL), HuaLian (TGCF), Jikook (BTS), RanWan (2HA) and WangXian (MDZS). Send me a message or a short prompt, I won't bite!

A moment that never fails to make my heart clench is that moment on 191029 Speak Yourself Seoul [The Final], during the final moments of their last concert, when Jungkook just got really overwhelmed while singing Mikrokosmos which of course, Jimin noticed.

So he backhugs JK and waddles across the stage with him in his arms while singing and you can see JK doing his best to try and stop his tears. He actually makes a pretty valiant effort, but then—

—when Jimin lets him go and Jungkook turns around, it’s like something in him that he tried so hard to hold on to snaps and he just breaks down? Because there is apparently something about Jimin that is so familiar and safe that Jungkook instinctually knows he can be vulnerable around him?

I don’t know if you guys realize how amazing that is? It’s not as if Jimin said anything to him or did something that told Jungkook “hey you don’t have to hold it in, you can just let the tears out”. No, JK deadass just turned around, made eye contact with Jimin and burst into tears.

Like this is actually the same reaction as a child falling down and not crying despite everyone around them fussing over them. But the second they see their parent, it’s like they know they don’t have to hold it in anymore so they burst into tears and run into their arms.

Do you guys understand how absolutely insane and heartbreaking the implications are? Like holy shit, I’m actually losing my mind over this.

The level of familiarity and comfort Jimin must mean to Jungkook for this kind of thing to happen? For just one look at Jimin’s face to break down all the walls he tried to set up? Ugh, my heart.

Don’t even get me started on how softly Jimin wiped away Jungkook’s tears with one sweater paw while gently cradling his head like wow I don’t think I’m in the right state of mind to talk about that yet.

Hi!! Can you explain why some people were mentioning JK’s tone when he asked “should i go there now”?? https://twitter.com/googie_jung/status/1448230820351598595?s=21

Hello anon!

The reason why this is blowing up on the K-KM side of things is because what JK says here, "가줘?", sounds so quintessentially boyfriend it's insane. On top of being informal speech, which, JK being the younger one in this relationship, is already a big deal, the phrase 가줘 implies a kind of fond indulgence that a similar phrase (something like 갈까, for example, which is another informal way to ask the same thing) doesn't convey. It implies that he's going there for him and specifically at his request, which may seem like a small difference, but the difference in tone/connotation in Korean is explicitly clear. It's a kind of dynamic that exists outside of a 'normal' hyung/dongsaeng relationship (which, considering that it's KM, is to be expected from them by now). That kind of indulgent tone is more commonly used between couples. But we see KM flout that boundary time and time again, proving how close their relationship is.

It's really amazing to see, and somehow still surprising every single time.

Side note: The way JM used formal speech with JK..... His unsubtle way of asking him to stop exercising and come over..... JK's informal speech..... How quickly he dropped everything to come to the room..... Just their entire dynamic..... Yeah......

Hey, are you not a mainly jikook/bts blog anymore?

Sorry if i missed the memo I just haven't been on tumblr in a while bc of uni

Hey anon! Hope uni’s been going well for you and you’re not too stressed!

Good q... my blog tends to flip flop around whatever fandom I’m currently in and for now, I’m so far into the SHL hole right now that it’s gonna be a while till I get out (I’m the type to be 200% into something, which unfortunately leaves no room for anything else).

That being said, BTS’ kind of one of my ults (which is never gonna change) and they’ve always been able to grab me back sooner or later, so I might go back to posting about them one day.

But also, I think I should just clarify that this blog was never meant to be a main in anything, it’s really just a place for me to dump my feels about whatever thing I want to talk about. I’ve cycled through quite a few fandoms since this blog became a thing (jeongcheol, minjoon, jikook, shadowhunters, cql, tgcf, 2ha, etc.), so if you followed thinking I’m a main in one thing, you’re gonna end up getting introduced to a lot of other things sdkjhfkjsdh

Hi! I'm still on ep 26 and I have heard about the entire plot when it was still airing on Youku app and then it ended but it's still going for me on YT and I haven't read the novel so everything is very mixed up in my head. I would ask you about what the Shidi & the other thing means but I'll go through your posts first but what baffles me the most is about the Scorpion King(?) fellow. The guy who he calls Yifu is actually his father? Because few weeks back I saw ppl shipping them? I didn't even understand his storyline. Ugh, could you tell me what it is? :3

Okay so the thing about Share (scorpion king) and IF (foster father) is that Zhao Jing’s got this habit of collecting foster sons which makes Share really jealous because he wants to be the only son for IF. Like, his one dream is to be recognized publicly by Zhao Jing and stand by his side proudly as his son, he’s so fully devoted to him and wishes for IF to love and trust him the same way. And Zhao Jing really is SUPPOSED to only be his foster father but they’re kinda... sus... in their interactions...

Like, Share is very pouty and does cute faces around IF, which he doesn’t around anyone else which makes people go 👀 To be frank, I’m not sure how much of the shipping is for jokes (the memes are pretty funny and Zhao Jing’s actor’s reactions are freaking hilarious) and how much of it is for real because they make a good foil for wenzhou: wkx and zzs are so devoted to each other, they trust and would give their everything to the other, which people joke makes Share incredibly jealous because they have the one thing he wishes he had aka full mutual devotion.

Honestly, I’m not fully clear on Share’s backstory either (since his scenes with IF are a lil too strongly flavoured for me), but from what I do understand, he’s ZJ’s adoptive son and he’s also head of the assassination organization, the Scorpion Sect. He basically does ZJ’s dirty work and he’s fully willing because he loves his IF so much. Meanwhile, it’s kind of a debate whether IF really cares about him or if he’s just using him or both.

***Share and IF/Eve are what people tend to call them because Scorpion King’s called “Xie-er” in Chinese which sounds like Share and Zhao Jing/Foster Father’s called “yifu” in Chinese which sounds like IF/Eve

I’m not even gonna lie, I start laughing uncontrollably every single time I watch this goddamn video.

So backstory to this video (this is only half of it, I’ll post the second half too), Chen Zihan, the actress for Xi Sang Ghost, posted this video on her Weibo and has since deleted it. The thing is, if you recall, Xi Sang Ghost is in charge of officiating weddings for ghosts and since her first appearance with Wen Kexing, netizens have been joking that the reason Wen Kexing gives her so much leeway and respect is because he’s expecting her to host his wedding with Zhou Zishu.

I think you get what I’m implying here.

So anyways, a few days after the finale on Saturday, Chen Zihan posts this video on her official Weibo account and she edits it in a way that shows WenZhou’s proposal, Zhou Zishu preparing to get married to Wen Kexing, with her as host for their wedding.

The fact that she starts with the whole hairpin giving scene is just 👌🏻👌🏻👌🏻👌🏻👌🏻👌🏻 (remember, hairpin is a token of love). I swear no one in that entire cast and crew is normal. They’re all shippers and she’s actually insane for this because “Chen Zihan hosts Wen Kexing and Zhou Zishu’s wedding” reached number 1 trending on Weibo after this video dropped.

btw, I hope y’all are aware that Chen Zihan (the actress who plays Xi Sang Ghost) posted (and deleted) a video of her officiating Wen Kexing and Zhou Zishu’s wedding 🙃

they are literally married and I’m ready to take is as canon (I’ll try to post the video after, it’s just very long and I get annoyed with tumblr’s 100MB size limit 🙄)

Hiiii~ just wanted to say I love your Twitter and all the translations and snippets you post of shl!! (I don't use Twitter and I'll never use it, but since your tumblr post I love scrolling through your Twitter because I'm still unfortunately not over shl 🙈😅 and also since I use Android I can't pay for the bts clips, so seeing them from you absolutely makes my day ;))

hdkfshkjhdskfh omg hello anon!!

That’s perfect, I’m really glad you’re having fun going through my Twitter (my username’s manggaetteok96 if any of you are interested)! I’m still very surprised when I get people commenting that they like what I post, it’s very heartwarming 💖 I even had someone said they found me through my CQL days here lol

Btw, I mainly do translations of VIP or paid SHL content there (yes I do pay for them and yes I do share them), and I also share random SHL related videos/edits. Basically, it’s a dumpster for all of my SHL-related chaotic screaming. Absolutely feel free to just check it out (my account’s public so there’s no need to follow or anything), I update quite frequently and I try to go through all the reblogs and comment/reply where I can. Oh and absolutely feel free to message or shoot me an ask on Tumblr to talk about a post I made on Twitter, idrc

I totally get you not using Twitter to be perfectly honest... I mean, my twitter account was created in 2016 and I only hit ~100 followers because of groupchats lol I never used to post there, just used it to get updates on things. But then SHL happened, I started putting my Chinese to the test, found out people were quite interested in them and I guess the rest is history? My account grew way too fast in just a month’s time, I’m still pretty amazed.

I’ve actually been A LOT more active there, mainly because Twitter’s video upload system is much faster and easier, which makes video sharing much more accessible. The main limitation on Twitter is the duration (I’ve yet to be limited by file size), whereas Tumblr videos can’t exceed 100MB and the upload time also takes much longer. This makes the process of sharing short snippets not so quick... Also, I find Tumblr to be much better suited for long text posts so it’s not like I’m disappearing from here completely since I’ve been on an on/off relationship with Tumblr for years now hhhhhhhhh

But yeah, not being over SHL is relatable af, I thought we’d all be chilling since the finale aired (paid VIP here), but nope. We’re getting 2 sets of behind the scenes daily (one VIP and one paid) and even the international release has hidden Easter Eggs...

By the way, I’ve been posting a lot more SHL updates, interview translations of Zhang Zhehan and Gong Jun on my Twitter (@manggaetteok96) so if you’re interested in faster and smaller updates about Word of Honor, you can go check my account out.

It’s mainly because Twitter allows longer videos to be posted whereas Tumblr is constrained by the 100mb limit. I still use Tumblr because there’s no word limit here so all of the massive word barf posts will continue to be done here 😌👌🏻

So I haven’t made any posts yet today but I’m here with something very good this time.

Namely, further proof that the Word of Honor team really did film a happy ending, they just couldn’t fully show it. Fans noticed that Chengling’s explanation of what happened to Wen Kexing and Zhou Zishu as they practiced the LiuHe skill did not match his lips at all (honestly any Chinese speaking person can tell, the dubbing is pretty obvious).

The video below is actually a fan’s re-dub of Chengling’s explanation which, compared to the mess of dubbing in the aired version, pretty perfectly matches his lip movements. Can’t blame the original dub though, the explanation is way too different to match his lips ;)

There are two sets of subtitles: the set on top is what was aired in the finale and the set below is what Chengling is supposed to have originally said (pre-dub over).

I have translated both:

Broadcast version:

Chengling: To master the LiuHe skill, there must be a person who wholeheartedly accepts turning their body into a furnace which they use to turn their own hard-earned cultivation into energy that is passed on to the practitioner. No matter how good your cultivation is, even if death is not immediate, the veins will still be cut off eventually.

Kid: So... did they master it?

What should have been the original script (and basically what is said in the video above):

Chengling: To master the LiuHe skill, the two must share the same heart/feelings, watching over and protecting each other. They must also whole-heatedly recognize the other as their soulmate, for only by maintaining their love can they pass the most critical stage by transmitting their internal qi (energy) to the other, thereby getting through the difficulty. Once the skill is mastered, the two will then become each other’s immortal protector.

Kid: So... they both survived?

-

So.

I dunno if that makes it obvious now but from Chengling’s original explanation, nowhere does it say that a sacrifice is needed to master the LiuHe skill. The two people just have to wholeheartedly love each other and be willing to give to each other completely, which would allow them to transmit the necessary energy to push pass the critical stage without holding anything back. In the end, they become immortal and protect each other forever.

This “theory” (I really should use “fact” but whatever) is completely supported by Ye Baiyi’s words as well. In a flashback, he tells Wen Kexing that he has a method to save A-Xu, but it would cost him his life and asked if he would still be willing. Wen Kexing didn’t even hesitate before agreeing, to which Ye Baiyi let out a pleased smile and replied with “You’ve answered well.”

According to my “theory”, this was merely a test to ensure that Wen Kexing would not have any doubts because if he did, he’ll hold back during the LiuHe cultivation process which could cost both of them their lives. It’s only by being wholeheartedly devoted to each other and willing to give each other their all that they can pass the critical stage.

Also yes, I know he said a bunch of stuff in voice over while the camera panned over WenZhou mid-cultivation but because I didn’t actually see his lips say that (meaning, I don’t have video proof of his lips actually uttering those words), I’m more inclined to believe what I do see. A voice over can be recorded at any time to fit broadcasting needs so 🤷🏻‍♀️

Anyways, all this just to reiterate what I’ve been saying this entire time: WenZhou have a happy ending where they both become immortal and are each other’s forever for eternity. No, they did not die. No, I don’t think it’s a bad end and no one can convince me otherwise 😤

Translation: (clip explaining how the “Is it beautiful?” and “It’s perfect.” was born from an adlib)

Zhang Zhehan: For example, that scene with the old fisherman. They kept saying that I was a "beauty beauty beauty", eventually I couldn't hold it in anymore so I turned my head around and asked him, "Is it beautiful?"

I just thought, you see me looking like this, how can you keep saying that I look beautiful? In reality, I was asking it in a very sarcastic way, purposefully trying to probe [him out with] "Am I beautiful?"

Unexpectedly, very quickly, Gong Jun was able to answer, he said "Perfect."

Oftentimes, it's these small details that pushes a role towards a certain direction, towards a certain character development. I feel like this is, when everybody sees it, they will find out—

Gong Jun: It's interesting.

Zhang Zhehan: —Yes, there are many interesting parts.

//end

So the producer specifically asked for actors for the leads (as opposed to idols) and you can really see how that decision paid off with these two.

I’m honestly amazed by Zhang Zhehan and Gong Jun. If you didn’t know, they actually filmed the scenes mostly chronologically (all the beggar scenes filmed first). It worked very well in their case because they weren’t quite familiar with each other back then just yet, so any heavily emotional scenes wouldn’t have had as much of an impact given the underlying awkwardness.

That being said, despite their unfamiliarity, they already had enough chemistry between them to come up with legendary adlibs like “Is it beautiful?” “It’s perfect.”

Honestly, I haven’t been this affected by a pair of actors as I have been by these two.
