“Sky too big” also gets you on the tops of very tall, sharp mountains, where standing at the top means everything around you except the snow under your feet is blue sky.

Y’all’re joking, but I remember the agoraphobia I had the very first time I spent time in prairie states. There was this terror inside of nowhere to run, nowhere to hide. It went away when I flew back to the East coast.

It was there the 2nd time too, but not quite as strongly.

Even TALKING about it now makes me feel anxious.

Laugh all you want, but when you’re used to driving a few hours and hitting ocean, and an hour and hitting mountains, being surrounded by nothing but flat and Flat and FLAT and knowing that’s all there is for hundreds of miles does things to ya.

Not even slightly joking, though. Flat places give me the horrors. At least when you go up a mountain, you went to see the sky void, and you can hike right back down and hide from it in a nice valley somewhere. Safe little critter under the nice tall trees.

Out in the Flat Places* there’s nowhere to goddam hide from the sky. It’s all nothingness from horizon to horizon, and that nothingness wants to grind you under its boot like an ant, I swear to god.

*Flat Places may vary person by person, but I absolutely am including low hill country because I think it makes it worse. You look at the hills and expect to see mountains but none appears!

I've been on a bit ob a Russell Crowe movie binge in the past few weeks and since he is almost sixty now, many of the movies I've watched were consequently older movies. and when I watched them, it struck me again, how much hollywood has changed in the last few decades when it comes to depicting men.

take Gladiator for example from the year 2000. Russell Crowe plays basically an action hero in it. he is a big, muscly dude, who is very strong and uses that strength to defeat his enemies. and this is what he looks like:

looks like a strong man, right?

in the same year, Hugh Jackman as Wolverine looked like this in the first X-men movie:

in 2013 the same character played by the same actor looked like this:

it's a bit much, isn't it? I mean, he looks so skinny.

and if we go even further back: look at what the womanizer character Face from the A-team looked like in the 80s show vs the 2010 movie reboot:

maybe the difference isn't that big but it really startled me when I watched that movie for the first time. in my mind there was no reason why Face should be particularly muscular since he is the charming one not the one known for being particularly strong.

if we go even further back, look at the charmin womanizer character Hawkeye in M*A*S*H from the 70's.

I know he's a doctor and there is no reason for him to be ripped but I got the feeling if they did the show now, he would be.

I don't know what my point really is I'm just saying I got a bit nostalgic when watching these men. I cannot be the only one who'd rather see more of this:

than this:

also, as a sidenote: Russell Crowe gained a lot of weight for the nice guys and he is a fucking powerhouse in that film, like, when he punches someone, you really feel it because of the weight that is behind it and the shere mass of his body.

(even if this may look different, he's about to break Ryan Gosling's character's arm. I couldn't find a gif of him punching someone but I swear it looks painfull as hell.)

so, in short: can we get big, heavy action guys back? cause I'm tired of seeing these skinny, despite being muscular dudes who look dehydrated as hell and on steroids.

and can we stop making characters ripped just for the sake of it? cause I'd rather cuddle with a guy looking like Hawkeye than one looking like Face from the new A-team movie.

not enough fantasy settings talk about street food like c'mon there was street food in ancient times across basically every culture lemme see what weird snacks you can buy off a guy in an alleyway

𝕾𝖜𝖔𝖗𝖉 𝕾𝖓𝖔𝖜 𝕾𝖙𝖗𝖎𝖉𝖊 - final review

overview : EPISODE NO. - 38 episodes GENRE - wuxia

Xu Fengnian is the first born son of the fearsome warlord Xu Xiao, the Duke of Beiliang- and probably the biggest hunk of scum in the whole empire. despite his father being a great martial artist and warlord, Xu Fengnian can’t wield a sword to save his life, he’s shameless, he’s lazy, he’s an all-round playboy- he’s a good for nothing.

or so everyone believes.

l⃣e⃣ t⃣’ s⃣    b⃣e⃣g⃣i⃣n⃣

I love this drama so much- despite handling pretty serious situations that are matter of life and death, it’s so so so funny and chaotic. Sword Snow Stride is a drama which follows Xu Fengnian’s growth from a reluctant though highly intelligent heir of the duchy Beiliang to it’s capable, cunning and yes, shameless, future ruler. The writing of the show is so clever, and plot twists and political mechanisms are incredibly entertaining to watch.

[ I don’t think the drama went out of it’s way to be unique, although the plot is incredibly incredibly good and one whole pretty solid. the humour was incredible though, so a three gems ]

𝖗𝖊𝖜𝖆𝖙𝖈𝖍 𝖛𝖆𝖑𝖚𝖊 - ✨✨✨✨

[ the chaotic energy and humour is top tier what can I say ]

Fragrance literally is a valid form of time travel. I think of all the senses it's the strongest for it. Those memes about stepping outside and the air smells like a 2006 scholastic bookfair. Or for instance right now I am using the same cologne I used when my friend sold me his Playstation and I got back into sonic games again. Now that cologne makes me think of that fall and Sonic and those good times I had then. When I make peach tea the smell of it reminds me of being 17 and watching a vhs compilation of springsteen videos over and over when I'd get home from school. I only get Folgers coffee when I'm missing my grandma because it makes my house smell like hers did. Etc

You made that Sanji art entirely using highlighters???? Yooooooooooooooo that’s so good 🤩

Avatar

thank you !! theyre actually fluorescent acrylic markers ! molotov markers to be exact :D (i think the blue is just a regular blue tho, but the color is very vibrant irl and a very similar shade to my actual blue highlighter) theyre more forgiving than actual highlighters cause they can cover up mistakes ^^ except the yellow, so i put white underneath and the color on top when its dried

the smaller sketches are indeed highlighters, i use the lighter ones as a sketch (yellows/oranges/pinks)

i have some trendy ones leftover from highschool that are very pale/pastel and theyre perfect as an under layer

i refine with darker colors (blues, greens, more vibrant pinks) and colored pens, or just regular lineart depending on the vibe (and the closest pen on my desk, ngl)
