Okay, some real talk. I want to give my two cents on this situation with Margaret as a relative outsider and newcomer. I’m probably missing information, and to be honest this whole thing has been confusing to me, but still.

First, I’ll probably never come to an understanding with her: that’s fine. I do think she’s made some points that should be listened to, but I can’t stomach the way she insults people. I also really hated how she screenshotted someone’s art just to make jabs at shuake. But at the same time, she’s one person, and if she feels cornered and trapped something must have pushed her to that point.

People have undoubtably bullied her through private messages, and that’s inexcusable. Maybe you think it’s justified, that her actions have warranted  harassment, but that’s never true. No one deserves harassment: not the people Margaret insults, and not Margaret herself. By messaging someone just to be rude or mock them, you ignite the situation all over again. Give it a rest. All of you.

We all need to take a collective deep breath. There has to be a way for things to be resolved peacefully, surely. At the very least, if you know that you can’t get along with someone, and looking at their Twitter or Tumblr makes you unhappy, you should block them. And I’m talking to both sides when I say this.

Maybe I’m too soft, but I just want everyone to be calm and get along, or at least be polite with each other. Everyone’s got different opinions, and it should be fine to voice them. I feel like people might be angry with me for trying to take a middle ground, but that’s how I really feel.

She got angry back in August because shuake shippers were happy about Akira and Goro appearing together in the p5royal opening. That’s it. Since then she has been saying that shuake shippers don’t care about Goro’s character and only care about fetichizing yaoi ships, that Akira and Goro hate each other and people who think otherwise are stupid, and that people who ship the thing basically are abuse apologists because shuake is super abusive, among other things. (if she thinks people can’t ship shuake because it’s abusive then why she stans someone like Goro, who would be the abuser in this case? Anyway-)

She says she wants more solo Goro content and less ‘make everything about shuake’ but honestly, this is a relatively big fandom. There can’t be a quota of times people are allowed to talk about something. “whoops three people have made shuake content today, the rest has to talk solely about Goro. Wait until tomorrow to talk about a ship that you enjoy to make happy a person who called you a fetichist, abuse apologist, etc. etc.”

She believes herself to be some kind of saviour or pariah who cares about who Goro truly is, “not like those shuakes who only want to see him suck Akira’s **k” in her words. (and it’s hilarious because every single shuake shipper cares about Goro just as much or even more, but they just happen to want to see him with someone. That’s it. You are not a better fan for preferring to see Goro alone.)

So yeah, I mostly think this is a matter that can’t find a middle ground because she says she won’t stop until people catter to her and talk less about shuake. People will do what they want in their free time, it’s literally not hurting anyone, and if it’s hurting someone it’s really on them. We are talking about a fictional ship over the internet, not something actually serious. If you don’t like it, do something about it yourself, don’t insult a full community, repost their art with hateful comments, and call them a cult who shares the same ‘bad opinions’ on Goro (which, also wrong, everyone views Goro and shuake in a different light. Some takes are more popular than others, but almost everyone agrees that Goro and Akira are equals, and that Goro isn’t an ultra soft boy, but a complex character who can be cold AND vulnerable, and has the right to have a friend or something more.)

I also disagree with people sending her nasty stuff or bullying her (that’s never the right thing to do) but she did insult and bully several times a large community, so it’s not strange that it happened. It still doesn’t make it right, obviously, but then again, if she really wants to regain her mental health she should stop this because she has the power to do it.

I love your artwork, especially the one of the love triangle it’s so adorable I look at it everyday to remind me it’s actually r e a l 💕

Aw thank you so much! The whole interview and all the devs’ insights on Royal are so good, the love triangle description stood out but the whole thing is amazing, I also can’t believe it’s real xD I’m one of the individuals who said that it was impossible that Goro was going to be Akira’s dream when the first trailers came out because it sounded too good xD

I often see people dismissing shuake shippers for viewing Akira and Goro’s plot in Royal as a romance, saying that it’s dumb, and that it's obviously not meant to be viewed like that, and even though I’m aware that they are not canon, I do believe that their story has a romantic subtext to it and here’s why:

Did you know the new Wonder Woman movie seems to have the same plot as Royal? I just saw the trailer and I can’t believe how similar the concept is. (Please watch it here) Basically, the villain seems to be a man who can influence the thoughts of others and make their dreams come true. “Life is good but it can be better, all you need is to want it. Think about everything you have always wanted” Does it ring a bell? He is very similar to Maruki.

Diana is still grieving Steve’s death, so you can guess what does she want. Yes, Steve is Diana’s dream and he comes back to life in this movie, pretty much like Goro Akechi did. (People are already theorizing that Diana will have to come to terms that Steve must die in order to defeat the villain. In the trailer, Diana says “Nothing good is born from lies.” which is also one of Royal’s main themes.)

There’s even another main character who is a nerd and a bit insecure at first, and then suddenly she becomes everything she wanted: popular, loved. She is literally the transformation of Sumire to Kasumi.

Even the comment section of the trailer looks the same as the one in Royal YT videos:

So, as someone who ships shuake, I can’t help but notice that this is basically Royal’s Akira+Akechi+Maruki plot AND it’s treated as a romance: It really says a lot.

It says that this kind of plot works really well for romance, so I believe that people who ship shuake have all the right to view it as that because: it’s what’s expected, it’s in the subtext, that kind of plot has all the romance cliches and factors that we all know and have seen a million times, and that even movies like Wonder Woman acknowledge. So seeing that same plot but with male characters who are not together still gives people the impression that it could be viewed as a tragic romance.
