//So I've been meaning to come back and properly check on things, but somehow logging on here lead to me rediscovering one of my favorite fancomics and I've mostly been reading that. Honestly it's kinda giving me muse back to try writing Calcite again, but it's been so long that I might end up actually finishing my Scarecrow/Riddler blog instead, ya know... If I don't get too distracted again lol

//It has been a very long time since I have updated on my status. As of now, I still don’t have WiFi at home with no idea when I will be able to restore it. Thank you too all my pals who haven’t unfollowed during this trying times. I hope to be back on here soon, even if it is with a mysterious new muse instead of Calcite.

//OK I give. It’s Scarecrow. I’ve been writing him everywhere but on here and with the fact that I’ve no doubt been demoted beyond belief on Gmod, they probably wouldn’t notice if I took extra long to come back while properly setting it up.

As she led the human into the cave, she would glance back and roll her eye with a scoff. Sure she spoke about about wanting her to feel safe now, but that could easily chance that it could. Peace with humans never lasted long for Dragons.
The cave itself consisted of a short curved passage that kept the wind from blowing snow in and a fairly spacious cavern proper. Like all other dragons, Calcite had a large hoard that she had accumulated for herself. It consisted mostly of heaps of differently colored pearls and a small pile of precious gems. The other notable feature was how warm it was inside compared to the frosty exterior. This was thanks to what looked to be a pile of burning rocks in the center of the cavern.
“Excuse the lack of furniture. ’m not used to getting guests.” She gestured at some furs that served as her sleeping area, considering that to be the most comfortable spot for a human to sit. Calcite would take a spot by the fire, seeming to give Elsa’s words some thought.
“Yes, I suppose you’re right. I did lose the one most important to me a while ago thanks to them being attacked and fatally injured…” Her gaze would shift to the ring she wore on her tail, curling it closer to herself. “There’s a reason the texts you have on dragons are so ancient your kind can barely read them anymore. It happened before I was hatched, but I can tell you the story…if your interested that is.”

Even with how different the two of them were and how different from the rest of her kingdom this creature was, the fact stood that Calcite had clearly made a home here.   As far as Elsa was concerned, that meant the dragon was a citizen of Arendelle, just as much as any of the people or animals were.

Which, in turn, meant she was Elsa’s responsibility to care for.

One hand delicately lifted her skirts so she could lower herself onto the furs.   Not too far away so as to create distance or imply that she was afraid, but far enough not to crowd the dragon.           “   Please, don’t worry about it.   I appreciate any hospitality you’re willing to offer.   It’s a good idea for us both to sit and settle down a little.   My father always said decisions made with a hot head will always come back to haunt you.

She listened quietly for a moment, watching, letting her eyes wander where Calcite’s did, and sympathy was evident on her snowy features.           “   I’m sorry you had to go through that.   Losing someone you love NEVER stops hurting.      A sharp stab like icy air meets her own chest when she thinks of her parents.           “   … Please.   I think it might help us understand one another, and what I can do to help you.

She appreciated the fact that the human wasn’t making any threatening moves or getting to close to her. Whether it was fear or respect, Calcite wasn’t sure, but it certainly wasn’t entirely what she had come to expect from Elsa’s kind. Her previous experience made sure of that.

“Your father was a wise man. It’s a shame the rest of your kind don’t share those sentiments.” He sounded as if he had been as rational a human as she ever could have found and it was a shame she wasn’t going to get to deal with him. Elsa seemed to share his opinions though making the dragon have some small hope this could end well for both of them.

“In the distant past, before magic such as what you have became a rarity instead of the norm. humans and dragons used to be allies. They would hunt and work alongside each other for the betterment of both species. There were some who became suspicious of the dragons motives however, as humans are so prone to becoming even among their own kind. That was when the trouble started.”

“If it is, it’s going to be a first for me to have to deal with.” For all the time she had to deal with crimes both human and supernatural in nature, Calvin had yet to deal with a large number of deadly creatures. This city would seem to attract a more diverse selection than her home one. Not that she was going to complain for as horrible as it could be, at least she couldn’t complain about the job getting boring.
She snickered softly as she accepted the paper bag, loading a decent variety from what she had brought into it. “You should know by now that I always have a sugar craving.” It was a well known fact as it was the reason her desk drawers had more sweets and candy than things actually related to solving any cases. not that anyone around her complained as she could always be counted on for a mint or piece of gum to help cover up a lunch that got a little too happy. Looking at the time on her watch, she gave a small hum, “Well, the Chief will have just left for his own lunch right about now and won’t be back for at least an hour. I have time if you can find a way to put me to use.”

Phoebe laughed and shook her head. “Listen, if you could provide us with some kind of legal cover, that’d be enough ‘dealing with’ for you. I wouldn’t want you to put your life and your job in jeopardy.” She immediately thought of Andy, who had died while helping her and her sisters. He and Prue had had the strongest bond, but he had also been a friend to her and Piper. She wasn’t about to drag another one of their law enforcement friends into the line of fire. Not unless it was absolutely, 100% necessary.

Calvin’s offer to help her out for the next hour did have her hesitate before she finally nodded. “Well, you could look for some more sightings on the computer? Or see if you can scrounge up some lore? You know the creature’s description best. The computer’s in Piper’s room.” She gestured that Calvin leave her sweet treats on the kitchen counter for now – her sister wouldn’t like it if ants found their way into her room – and then headed upstairs. She led Calvin to the computer before she ducked up to the attic and took the Book back to where Calvin was and sat on the bed. “So…have you and Darryl started hanging out? Trading a few notes as to how to survive the Halliwell sisters and their magical messes?”

While she had heard about Andy and knew all too well about the dangers the sisters faced on an almost daily basis, Calvin was not going to allow herself to be sidelined for any part of it. She had already paid the price before for getting too close and was not going to risk any of her new friends making that same mistake, not when she was almost certain there was no way they could get the unique treatment she had managed to get thanks to her aunt’s considerable funds. “There’s always the tried and true “private consultants” excuse we could use. Too bad none of you is a PI or something similar as that would make it much easier for us to explain needing your “services”.” The detective joked back.

She gave a nod, setting her bag of treats on the counter before following after Phoebe. Having spent so much time on desk duty while she had recovered from the loss and replacement of her arm, Calvin was more than familiar with the workings of computers and set about looking up their quarry online. Calvin did glance over when she heard Phoebe speaking. “I don’t think he knows quite what to make of me yet. I mean I’m the only detective on the force with a write-up in my record for throwing a fellow officer’s personal motorbike over 5 meters straight up into the air. Not to mention that I think his wife might consider me to be a “bad influence” on him. Can’t imagine why.” There were plenty of reasons why, but they had more important matters to attend to now.

Calvin did follow the other woman into the kitchen, taking a seat at the counter and giving a smile when the steaming mug of coffee was handed to her. It was one constant that there was when she came over and she could appreciate that as it usually helped when going over the latest crime that could have been even vaguely supernatural in origin. She was taking a sip of said coffee when Phoebe mentioned the portals, her eyebrows jumping briefly as she was rather quick to make a possible connection between this new lead and her reason for being there in the first place,
“Portals you say? Now that is interesting… The reason I’m here is that we’ve been getting calls about sightings of a large creature late at night, usually shrouded in darkness and an unnatural fog. Normally I wouldn’t pay any attention to that kind of tabloid fodder, but there have been missing persons reports filed for all the sighting locations. Days later, body parts will turn up in….unusual places.” She reached into her coat and pulled out some rather grisly photos which she would pass to Phoebe for her to get a look at. Most would find them horrific to look at, but they could be considered tame compared to some of the things she had heard the sisters had faced in the past. “I’m not sure if you can tell but those aren’t the kind of injuries any man can make, no matter what he’s using. In fact, if I might be inclined to think that they were caused by something with rather large teeth.”

“Moves around with unnatural fog, missing persons, and injuries made by large teeth? Sounds like the work of a hungry ghoul,” she replied. “But I’ll double-check the Book and see if there are others I can come up with. How long do you have before they expect you back at the station?” Due to the sisters’ experience of working with Detective Morris, she was aware that detectives had limited breaks. The chief tended to notice when those breaks became longer and more frequent, and she didn’t want either Darryl or Calvin to come under scrutiny. “If it takes me longer than thirty minutes, I could call you later. You can take some of the doughnuts with you so if you do return late, you could say that you had a sugar craving.”

She’d already hopped off of the stool and was puttering around the kitchen, finding a small paper bag to put the doughnuts in and sliding the box over to Calvin for her to choose. The photographs were pretty gruesome, but Calvin was right in thinking that she had seen worse. It was sad that that was their new normal now, but she had been the most enthusiastic of the sisters to learn that she was a witch. She had to take the bad with the good, and the former involved seeing things most people would never see in their entire lives. “I hope the portals and the ghouls – if they are ghouls – are the same thing. We’d be spreading ourselves thin if they were separate occasions.”

“If it is, it’s going to be a first for me to have to deal with.” For all the time she had to deal with crimes both human and supernatural in nature, Calvin had yet to deal with a large number of deadly creatures. She knew the transfer had been a bad idea the moment she was getting told off for doing her job too well. Calvin had been told by her chief that she was supposed to learn how they did things in Gotham, but somehow being too good had landed her in the latest attempt at controlling the more violent criminals on completely false charges. Being alone and a police detective made her an obvious target so her first thought was to head for the PD that was standing in the converted city to use it as shelter until she could think of a better plan.

As Calvin silently entered, there was something quite apparent that was setting this building apart from any of the others around it: It was colder inside than the winter coating the city in snow. Shivering slightly, she slowly made her way to the back, more than ready to fight her way through any hostility she might encounter.

Calvin tensed for a second, actually remembering that incident. It was one of the first major villain attacks that had happened after her transfer and at the time, she had been terrified for her life. That had also been one of the few times she had been glad there was someone as dense as the Bat because dealing with someone who could freeze her faster than she could deal with him was just too far above her pay grade.

Looking around she was quick to spot Nora’s capsule in the back. Slowly she would walk over and raise a had as if to wipe some of the frost from the glass casing, only to stop short of actually touching it. Freeze was legendarily protective of his wife and there was no way she was going to be doing anything to the case that might end up costing her her life.

Victor gazed at his frozen wife with sadness and love and relief. She was safe from the thugs…..but his own work never ended. He stepped closer, though he didn’t glare down at Calvin for being this close to Nora. He was more relaxed…….a sign he trusted her. It was okay for her to touch the glass.

“…….You can touch the glass. Just please don’t touch the sensors. They’re very sensitive.”

She had been carefully watching Freeze for any sign that she could be doing something he didn’t approve of. It didn’t come though as he was just as calm as when they had been talking in the GCPD earlier. Calvin let out a relieved breath she had been unintentionally holding. Heeding his warning about the sensors, she would gently place a hand on the frosted up glass.

“You have a beautiful wife, Freeze.” Her words would be so unlike the more lewd and frankly nasty comments she had overheard her fellow officers spewing. “I can see why you aren’t giving up on her.”

Image

The words they had said to him, laughed at him……it cut him deeply. Most he deflected…..after all, his own father had called him worse things when he had just been a tiny scrap of a child.

He was still as he stood by her chamber……the blank look on his face unable to hide just how much he wanted to be with his wife…..and not trapped without her.

“ She’s my best friend……she’s my rock. She was always stronger than me…..I’m….I’m nothing without her……”

His fingers gently caressed the reflection of her cheek as she slept in her deep freeze state…..a look of peace and tranquility on her face.

“ She saw something in me worth fighting for…….it’s why I haven’t eaten my gun in all these years……even though every part of me wants to end it all.”

Calvin could easily find herself relating more to the frosty man than any of her supposed co-workers who had framed her. Her own family had not been the best after she had lost her mother at a young age meaning she also had to rely on.

“I know what you mean... Citrine is the same for me. Even back when we were in high school. I’m not sure how I would have ended up if not for her.”

Honestly she had no idea his physical state was wearing on his mental one so much that he consider ending it all. Then again, she wasn’t sure what she would have done in his situation herself.

“If it counts for anything, after today you have at least one non-frozen person who would miss you if you did that.” She admitted referring to herself.

Make Your Own Kind Of Music (Closed White & Blue Diamond and Calcite RP for smugxscientific)

@smugxscientific
The war had finally drawn to a close and Calcite felt as if things were going to change drastically around Homeworld. No more would they be needing her extreme methods of conducting her science and she felt as if she was going to be losing her favorite part of her job.
That was until she heard that two Diamonds were going to be paying her lab a personal visit and one of them was White Diamond. She was one of the few gems Calcite knew was as cruel as she was. As much as she would never admit it, part of her was looking forward to the meeting and the possibilities it could hold. They never normally went to meet gems, instead sending their favored right-hand gems to do their work.
Calcite was more than ready when Blue Diamond and then White Diamond entered her lab, having even polished her display of gem shards just for the occasion. She would turn from what she was working on and giving the customary diamond salute.
“My Diamonds. Welcome to my lab. Please, feel free to have a seat. I would hate to waste any of your time with idle chit chat.” She gestured at two chairs as they raised out of the floor in front of her desk and took her seat behind it. “Now, how can I help you today?”
Image

Calcite had always been a curious Gem, as far as Blue Diamond was concerned. Brilliant, cunning and inventive to what most would consider a genius degree, all these were fair descriptions of the Gem in question. But while most had assumed Calcite would join the Blue Diamond Research & Development, Blue had always kept Calcite at arms length. Not out of a hatred towards her, but because of her… Well, emotions, for lack of better terms.

The Gems in Blue’s labs did not allow emotions to cloud their judgement. The work they did was for the good of Homeworld and the Gem race, so they shut off anything that would put a stop to this. In Blue Diamond’s case, literally, with the silver apparatus around her Gem inhibiting her compassion, empathy and… Sadness.

Calcite though? She enjoyed her work far too much. No wonder White chose her for this task. Project Anglesite was born of rage after all, White’s rage. Blue took note of the polished Gem shards, displayed like spoils of war. Her opinion of Calcite only seemed more valid. She silently took her seat.

Image

White sat, crossing her leg as she leaned back into the chair. “Calcite, you’ve proven yourself in the eyes of the Authority. You are a Gem who can get things done. We like that.” White continued, her calm demeanor masking an inner rage that was boiling up. “How would you like to play a direct part in the future of Homeworld?”

Calcite was indeed a rather emotional sort of gem and some might think that was a liability in her line of work. To this orange gem however it was a strength as it would give her motivation to go above and beyond what she was supposed to be able to do.

Even though Blue Diamond had her device resting on her gem, Calcite could read others well enough to see that she didn’t fully approve of her or her methods. She didn’t care though as her methods were what had gotten her so far and she wasn’t going to be changing any time soon.

She would watch them with a careful eye, listening to White Diamond’s words and doing her best to not appear too pleased at how she was being personally praised by the Authority. “I would consider it to be among the highest honors to be allowed to play such a pivotal role for you, my Diamond. Please, simply tell me what you have in mind for me and I will complete it to the best of my ability, as I always have in the past.”

Being in a hurry was nothing new to Calvin and she was in quite a rush as she made her way out of the subway. So much so that she'd walk right into a taller stranger in her haste, almost knocking him down. "Sorry! Are you alright?"

Avatar

He was carrying a suitcase, and polished to the point that it was almost cartoonish at how immaculate he was. The bump nudged him slightly, but any deviation from routine….even accidental….was met with anger.

“ You incompetent clod! Watch where you’re going! There are people on a VERY tight SCHEDULE! Any delay, any LOSS of time is UNACCEPTABLE!”

He glanced at her badge….and gave her a snobbish humph.

“ Of course a member of the Gotham Police wouldn’t care about schedules. Typical lapdogs of a buffoonish mayor.”

She had gotten shouted at fairly often thanks to being associated with the Gotham Police, but this was certainly a new one. They usually weren’t so well dressed with such comical glasses.

“Hey! It was an accident! I didn’t walk into you on purpose and why would I.”

Calvin was going to walk off and leave him to his business, but something about his attitude made her want to be spiteful and hold him up even more.

“I hope you realize that your berating me has cost you even more of your time. Time you’ll never be able to get back.”

“ I don’t know, but that’s what’s wrong with everyone nowadays. Heads in clouds, blind to the world around them. Next time, you’ll hit a telephone pole with the recklessness you had in running into me!”

Oh……she was good. But he was better. He flicked out his watch, and looked at the time.

“ Thankfully for me, the subway is always delayed by 3.5 minutes. We have been speaking for forty seconds.

Now, judging by your uniform, you’re with the Gotham police. The average shift starts at 9 AM exactly. It is now 9:30 AM……so it looks like you’re the one costing the most time to yourself.”

“Yes well a telephone pole wouldn’t be so annoying! Not to mention you were on my blond spot.”

Calvin watched as the man toyed with an old fashioned pocket watch, folding her arms. Clearly he was one obsessed with time and she cared little for how late she was for work. Besides, if she was already half an hour late, a few more minutes wouldn’t matter a whole lot.

Giving a small sigh, she would shake her head and give an apologetic smile up at the man. “Look, we clearly got off on the wrong foot. Let me get you a coffee. My treat. There’s one near the subway entrance so it’s on your way and won’t cost you too much extra time.”
