There's an old probably apocryphal tale about Lyndon Johnson that was popularized by Hunter S. Thompson which goes like this:

This is one of the oldest and most effective tricks in politics.  Every hack in the business has used it in times of trouble, and it has even been elevated to the level of political mythology in a story about one of Lyndon Johnson’s early campaigns in Texas.  The race was close and Johnson was getting worried.  Finally he told his campaign manager to start a massive rumor campaign about his opponent’s life-long habit of enjoying carnal knowledge of his own barnyard sows. “Christ, we can’t get a way with calling him a pig-fucker,” the campaign manager protested.  “Nobody’s going to believe a thing like that.” “I know,” Johnson replied.  “But let’s make the sonofabitch deny it.”

Tumblr keeps making me think of this anecdote. There's a group of users on here who constantly demand if anyone mentions BDSM positively or even neutrally they caveat it by saying they aren't talking about abuse or if a man likes to call his boyfriend daddy they demand he disclaim that he doesn't support incest or if a trans girl likes to wear cat ears she needs to deny that she isn't into bestiality.

The point of this isn't that they actually believe it themselves or even a lot of the time it isn't about convincing other people that it's true but just to tar people by creating the association between two unrelated things by demanding that people constantly deny it.

extremely funny that the narrative around the columbia protests is that these kids are privileged brats disrupting everyone else's education as though that wasn't the exact rhetoric used to discredit youth activism during the vietnam war. alexa play ohio crosby stills nash & young

also extremely funny when every single one of these articles is like. 'we interviewed rachel levi and abraham weiss, two proud JVP members, as they cooked a passover meal for the encampment and asked: so why do you hate jews?'

When an adult with authority is being unreasonable to a child, and another child defends that child, they're often told "stay out of it unless you want to get in trouble too".

There are other times when a child does something selfish, and adults with authority punish that child for selfishness. The adults wonder why children are so cruel.

This makes no logical sense. They sometimes punish children for lacking compassion for others. They other times punish children for having compassion for others.

What they really mean is have compassion when the ruling class says to.

Just realized the reason Julian is on screen making excuses for being in Ops while clearly gossiping (post Starfleet retaking the station) is because Garak is busy breaking codes and Julian doesn't get to have lunch with him as much. =(

Well, that and early on in the series the writers decided the way to show that Kira is being mean specifically because she's upset is to have her take her bad mood out on Julian. 😿

there's this borderline hysterical laugh garak breaks into a couple of times during the early seasons that is so special to me. like. this man. this man is so high (constantly) and probably drunk (frequently) and he's at all times teetering on the very brink of despair that only pure spite, immense stubbornness, and getting to gaze at julian bashir's smiling face across the lunch table once a week is holding him back from tipping over. and then he has to deal with people like skrain dukat and gul toran on top of that and you can practically hear the cracks forming as he's barely holding on to whatever remains of his sanity by the skin of his teeth

imo the number of voyager episodes that heavily feature tom and neelix as a duo is just further proof that if neelix was a shippable twink tovix would be top three in terms of popularity

entertaining myself by imagining a reality where shippable twink neelix is real and people are getting into ship wars over tovix vs. tom/harry. callouts are written. tovix is problematic because they hate each other. tom/harry is actually even more problematic because of the gpa gap. you get where i’m going with this

@imagebackupblog CATBOY TWINK NEELIX SO REAL

Do you mean tolix? Because the V in tovix implies it's a Tom-Tuvok-Neelix polycule.

Also the concept of alternate reality ship wars makes me think of Living Witness but the Doctor is reactivated and all the fighting is over who shipped whom on Voyager.

FFXVI. I cast Primogenesis. I'm not getting arrested. The cops are now my personal Akashic army. They're still bastards, but they're my bastards to puppeteer and herd as I see fit. A small price to pay for a new age of reason...

I'm a type 1 diabetic. I require insulin to live, multiple times a day.

When I was in middle school, many years ago, we didn't have insulin pumps and had to use syringes and vials like everyone else.

The school refused to let me carry it with me, meaning I had to go to the nurses office several times a day to inject. It's not just before lunch but could be any number of times depending on the current blood sugar levels.

The district then cut nurse staff to just spending half a day at two schools, and the nurse left before I had lunch.

I asked the office staff to unlock the office so I could take my insulin and eat lunch. They refused.

By middle school, I'd been dealing with t1 for about 5 years, and didn't take shit on the topic. I went to the school lobby, picked up the payphone (I just dated myself) and called 911, telling them, "Hi, I'm at (school), am type 1 diabetic and the office won't unlock a door and let me take insulin."

They sent a fire truck, and a bunch of firemen met me outside and walked me to the office and asked, while ignoring the staff, which room was the nurses office. I pointed to the door and he was like, "Okay boys, chop it down, this kid need his insulin!"

Suddenly, the office secretary could unlock the door and I didn't need to put it in the nurses office everyday anymore.
