eat your gods.

EAT YOUR GODS. TEAR INTO THEM DEVOUR THEM LET ECSTATIC TEARS RUN DOWN YOUR FACE AND MIX WITH THE JUICE OF THEM.

get drunk on godflesh, stumble with divinity, whoop and shriek as they hit your bloodstream, roll in the dirt, suck their remnants off your gritty fingers, float, tumble, howl, chase, ascend, obliviate, transcend, transform.

wake disoriented, sick and aching with the loss of them. wipe your face, coax out your tangles, inspect your skinned knees and palms. leave your shoes where you threw them as an offering.

cultivate the hunger that only theophagy can sate.

consume them and be changed.

“The Healing Powers of Cats” By Good Witches Homestead

There are many stories of animals as healers. Research shows that simply petting a cat or dog can lower your blood pressure. Therapy animals who visit nursing homes and hospices bring peace and joy to patients who may not have smiled in months.

There are stories of horses who help people heal emotional and psychological issues, stories about dogs who can somehow sense cancer in people, even before doctors can find it, and dogs who can tell when a person is about to have a seizure.

CATS AS HEALERS

Research has even shown that the frequency of a cat’s purr can aid with healing of bones, tendons, ligaments, and muscles as well as provide pain relief. These healer kitties would work their magic in various ways:

  • By curling up next to a recovering cat or dog
  • By cuddling up to a worried client in the waiting room
  • By comforting a staff member who had just assisted with a difficult case or a euthanasia

Research has even shown that the frequency of a cat’s purr can aid with healing of bones, tendons, ligaments, and muscles as well as provide pain relief.

Cats seem to intuitively how to utilize the energy for their greatest good. They intuitively know where extra energy is needed and they also transmute the energy in the house in general.

Cats are sensitive to energies and have the ability to change negative energies into something peaceful and calming. Animals bring a spiritual component to healing as well. All cats do this to some degree.

While cats, in particular, have healing powers, research on pet companionship, in general, is also impressive. Research shows that people with pets:

  • Need fewer visits to their doctor each year
  • Have fewer sleeping difficulties
  • Are less likely to need heart condition medicine

CATS MAY REDUCE HEART ATTACK RISK BY 40%

While studies reveal that both cats and dogs reduced stress-related blood pressure more than ace inhibitor medication, cats, in particular, may reduce your chances of a heart attack by 40%.

Those who did not have a cat had a 40% higher risk of having a heart attack and a 30% greater risk of dying from other heart diseases than those who have or have had a cat.

There’s certainly some mystery as to exactly how cats and dogs manage to be good for our health. But here are some key pointers about the healing power of cats:

  • Stress symptoms are lowest in people with cats
  • Purring heals

Every cat creates purr vibrations within the range that are medically therapeutic (20-140 Hz) for bone healing, pain relief, swelling reduction, wound healing, muscle repair, joint mobility and more.

  • A pet reduces your risk of non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma cancer by about 33
  • The longer you have pets, the less likely you are to develop lymphoma
  • People with pets live longer (according to the Merck Veterinary Manual)
  • Pets are good for your mental health
  • Seniors had less depression and psychological distress if they had a pet

ANIMALS – CONNECTION TO THE SOURCE

For me, animals have always been an easy way to help me connect with Source. Animals are so much closer to nature than we are, and as such, are much more closely connected with Spirit than most humans.

Simply observing an animal can instantly transport me into a state of alignment. Is there anything more peaceful than a sleeping cat? More joyful than a dog playing with his toys? Animals teach us to slow down. It’s during those quiet times when it’s usually easier to connect with our spiritual core.

Animals facilitate finding those times for us. They force us to take a break from our busy schedules. Taking a dog for a walk, playing with a cat, these are times when we are forced to step back from our endless to-do lists and for a little while, we can allow ourselves to just enjoy the moment. And it’s during those moments that we are reminded of who we really are.

What other witches do: cast circles, visualize, use expensive oils/herbs/crystals, set aside time for rituals/Gods

What I do: open the windows and blinds, set a stick on fire, scream “I aint get no sleep cuz of yall, yall ain’t get no sleep cuz of me” at spirits in my house, wave stick fire smoke in circles above my head, use a red dollar store pen to carve sigils into tea candle, throw salt at windows aka “little bitch gtfo my house boy bye”, uses 37493927 emojis in texts to significant otter for good vibes, cries on my dog to ward her and also bc she’s So Good, wines to Zeus about my Problems™, watches Friends with Aphrodite and laughs, whispers “please fix my car” to hephaestus and offers him a burnt match, stares pointedly at Hermes offerings and squints at tip jar

This is probably my favorite hex because it’s just so darn easy, and usually pretty effective.

The last time I used it was on a woman who was being baligerant to a cashier at the grocery, (the cashier was from India and this woman was telling her very loudly that she should go back to Iraq and stop taking a job from her poor Canadian granddaughter… I guess the granddaughter had applied there and not got the job? I don’t know the deets). I turned to her, clutched my necklace (it’s just an antique looking locket watch, nothing special), pointed to her and said the words just loud enough that she could tell it wasn’t English.

I guess it didn’t hurt that I was also dressed pretty witchy.

She was like, “Did you just curse me?!?” and I just smiled, winked at the cashier and walked out. I waited just outside the Second Cup that was next to the grocery to watch this lady come out… And didn’t she just trip over her own two feet in grand fashion on her way to her car! I laughed and I laughed and I laughed.

What? I’m not… No, who am I kidding… Yes I am a bitch.

I love this 😂

My setup/altar so far.

The shelf was bought from Hobby Lobby for 4 bucks and painted black. My pentagram was made from black paint, gold leaf, and wood rounds. The three dishes are my offering dishes for earth, fire, and water.

My herb bottles I also got from Hobby Lobby on sale lol.

The candle is eventually going to be used in candle magic. I just want to set things up a little more first, and finish my wand.

Two other offering dishes i have is a hand thrown clay cup and a wooden carved bowl with a carved inlay inside. It’s a cat, of course.

The whiteboard is to keep track of dates, moon phases, planet positions, and to remind me of stuff.

Mostly I am saving up to go to the Pennsylvania Renaissance fair since they have ALL SORTS of cool witch things. Things like crystals. It’s so weird, but there’s nobody around my area that sells crystals.

Eventually one day I’d like another shelf. A nice one, and not something I had to jerry rig lol.

Mostly trying to use natural materiel here. Wood, glass, metal, stone. No plastics.

imagine how amazing and beautiful of an experience it would be raising your child and teaching them witchcraft (w their consent of course)

taking them to crystal shops and gem shows and letting them pick out a couple, having their own little altar, going on nature walks trying to spot faeries and collecting little treasures, dancing under the full moon not to mention just celebrating all the festivals w them, baking magic infused treats, all the DIY witchiness as arts and crafts time, sewing them magical dream pillows for great, imaginative dreams and scaring away nightmares, knitting enchanted blankets for warmth and comfort and protection, leaving out offerings for the fae, having some witchy gardens and growing allllll the plants, meditation sessions when we need to calm down and ground ourselves, magical bath time

Low-Energy Grimoire Ideas

Also for witches who just don’t have a lot of time. I have a lot of anxiety, which can lead to perfectionism, and stress myself out worrying that drawing in my grimoire will turn out horribly. I’m also naturally a pretty low-energy person, and can’t afford to spend all of it working on a single page. These are some things I use to speed up the process, and to make it much less consuming.

  • Check out the scrap booking section of craft/hobby stores. There’s many things you can find that could be useful, like small frames, borders, stencils, appliques, patterned paper. During Halloween they usually have more spookie-type stuff, like black cats and bats.
  • Washi tape. There’s so many different kinds of washi tape, and they make really nice borders. I particularly like the floral ones, and the ones with polka-dots.
  • Stickers. You can get stickers from so many places, and you can usually find some pretty cute ones, like animals or flowers, and seasonal ones for holidays/sabbats. Dollar stores also usually have quite a few in the school supply aisle. Online stores like LookHuman and Etsy have some fun ones, though they can get kind of expensive. If you have a printer, you can also try making your own stickers.
  • Craft scraps. Bits of colored paper, fabric scraps, ribbon, buttons, tiny bows. Anything you want. For example; I glued the last bit of some black lace ribbon to a page about graveyard dirt. My grimoire is a mini three-ring binder, so it’s easy for me to take pages out in order work on them. If your book does not have removable pages, be careful of the materials you use. Things that don’t lay flat, like buttons, can make it difficult to work on your pages.
  • Print out pictures. I try to avoid this unless I can really make it look nice, and not look like a school-project collage. Unless that’s what you like. In which case, go for it! This could also be an easier way to add in pictures of animals and plants without having to draw tiny little details.
  • Print out whole pages. (If you have a book to which you can add pages.) Things like recipes, articles, or anything information-heavy. I get that writing things down yourself can be helpful, and even make you feel more connected to your grimoire. But, personally, I don’t feel like every page needs to be hand-done. Some recipes I’ll keep on recipe cards in pockets/envelopes inside the book, or if I want full mythology stories, I’d print it out instead of trying to hand-write the whole thing.
  • Use photographs. These can be printed out, or maybe you have one of those instant Polaroid-type cameras. If you go on walks, you could stick in pictures of local flora and fauna, or make of page for spots around town that help you connect spiritually, like your favorite beach or a local cemetery.
  • Cut out pictures from magazines and newspapers. It can be difficult to find pictures that work with what you’re writing about, but it’s still worth flipping through them. Specialty magazines may work better, like a gardening magazine. Around September/October, history and travel magazines will usually do articles on haunted locations or the history of witchcraft in different areas, though I would check the accuracy.
  • Keep the drawings simple. There’s so many pictures floating around of these beautiful, hand-drawn grimoire pages. And while those are great, it’s also important to keep in mind that yours does not need to look like that. It’s fine if you want something simple, or need something simple. It’s your book, do what works best for you. Don’t stress yourself out trying to make a masterpiece.
  • Write out your initial notes before copying them into your grimoire. For me, it would take too much time and energy to hand-write everything twice. I also tend to reorganize things a lot. So I use word documents on my computer instead. Most computers will come with some type of text program, like Notepad or Microsoft Word. If you need one, I recommend checking out OpenOffice, which works just as well as Word and can be downloaded for free.

That’s all I have! I hope it was helpful, and feel free to add ideas.

Urban Witchery

1. Timing your banishing spells not with the moon, but with the garbage pick up.

2. Charming your bus/subway pass so that it activate good luck with each swipe.

3. Finding amulets in trash on the sidewalk.

4. Saying a chant with the crosswalk signal to keep you safe as you cross traffic.

5. Keeping a stash of fast food salt packets in your bag for on-the-go cleansing.

That garbage pick up timing though 👌

6. Sidewalk drawings to protect your home, really chalk can be used anywhere for sigils, wards, sacred symbols, etc.

7. Moss graffiti art as sacred imagery, protection, a bit of green magic in a concrete jungle.

8. Painting sigils onto the bottoms of your shoes (swiftness, invisibility, confidence, protection, etc.) to help you navigate busy streets, and rough neighborhoods.

9. Paint sigils or evil-eye charms onto the backs of decorative pins, and pin them onto your bag or apparel.

Check out the book Urban Primitive, it has a bunch more info that could be useful.

10. Creating sacred spaces around fountains, sculptures, and rooftops.

11. Keeping parks clear of litter.

12. Enchanting crosswalks to help prevent someone from walking into traffic.

13. Dancing in dark alley ways.

14. Drawing or leaving sigils in buses, trains, subways, and taxis to help everyone arrive at their destination safely.

15. Leaving sigils on benches to help the homeless people who may sleep there.

16. Carrying bread crumbs in your pocket to feed the birds.

17. Sharing enchanted foods with others in your apartment building. 18. Using your phone and/or laptop screen as a scrying mirror.

Just your friendly sorcerer in the city of fountains. Making sure every drop is sacred. And helping every wish manifest.
