Anyone have that Ursula K. Le Guin quote where she talks about how much she loves Worf from Star Trek? I know I've reblogged it but tumblr search is no help ever

Mabel on the tumblr account she made immediately after turning 13: one of the most important things to remember about boybands in that they’re very social! most members can’t make it solo. this is why you should always give them a sleeping area that fits all of them at once, so if one of them wakes up in the middle of the night he has the others to pose with and comfort him back to bed. if he still won’t go back to sleep you can try rocking him to simulate the gentle motion of a tour bus too!
Everyone else on tumblr: haha funny joke *10k notes*

A friend of mine got a copy of an old Dutch edition of The Hobbit. I absolutely agree with their assessment that this is the best cover art the book has ever had.

The more I look at it the more I love it. Look at it. Look at Bilbo. He’s just a little guy

A filibuster is a strike.

The point of a strike is not "prove that they can't get the work done without us." That's often true, but if that were all of it, companies would just hire scabs and be done with it. (Which is what they tried before legal protections for unions existed; which is what they try in the industries not covered by union labor laws. But we have unions because "just hire scabs" does not work in many cases.)

The point of a strike is "nothing moves until these problems have been addressed." Strikes live or die by community support - by customers refusing to cross the picket line, by a strike fund that gives the strikers the resources to wait, by public shaming of scabs who try to keep the company moving without addressing its poor treatment of employees.

A filibuster is a kind of strike: "None of this work gets done until we address this problem."

In most cases, that's one person, blocking one vote, because that's the way parliamentary procedure works. But sometimes they can do more than that.

Machaela Cavanaugh is delaying every bill that hits the Nebraska Senaate floor, adding swarms of amendments and making sure they take up all 8 hours of allotted discussion time.

"Advanced," not passed. By yesterday, none of them has passed.

here is a sweet story for you all:

the first time I saw my grandmother after coming out and starting HRT she said “here he comes” as I stepped out of the car and then started jumping up and down saying “he! he!! I’m going to remember!!” I started to say hello and she goes “oh! your voice!! wait, let me hear you say something” I say “hi grandmother” and she smiles really big and says “oh… that is a miracle :-)”

the moral of the story is that sometimes coming out is awesome and my grandmother rules. happy pride ✨

My grandmother also got bored one time at thanksgiving and asked me if I wanted to go look for cool mushrooms with her in the woods so basically she just kicks ass
