Cosmogony: Dawn of a New Age Update

Hello, everyone!

First of all, let us apologize for the months of silence. As you know, we are all living through a difficult situation right now, and it has not been easy to plan anything in advance for some months now. We can only be thankful that this situation happened once all of our packages had been sent and delivered, so no one had to wait for longer than necessary for their Cosmogony book to reach them.

However, we come here today with sad news: because of the pandemic, and the impossibility of sending out packages safely for all parties involved, we are forced to postpone left-over sales indefinitely. We have thought long and hard about this, and while we are sad to see some of our books and merch bundles still in a box instead of on their way to their forever homes, we believe this is the best decision we could have taken at this time. We hope you will understand our need to postpone left-over sales until it is safer to work again on our project.

There is other news, though!

Since we don’t want to hold on to the Cosmogony money indefinitely, we have gone ahead and made the donation to our charity of choice, the Global Heritage Fund. We were able to raise $2500 for this group!!!! THANK YOU SO MUCH, EVERYONE!!! This wouldn’t have been possible without your overwhelming support of the Cosmogony Project.

Below is a breakdown of the project.

If you run the end amount (2118,24€) through a converter app, you’ll see these a tiny difference between the final amount in this spreadsheet and the final amount donated. That is due to currency exchanges being different from when most of the payments were done! COVID-19 has made currency exchanges fluctuate a lot during the past months, but also, most of our payments were done at the end of 2019, so please keep that in mind!

We will do our best to find homes for the remaining stock once this situation has calmed down a bit, so feel free to continue following the Cosmogony accounts (twitter and tumblr) for any updates that we might have for anyone interested.

Stay safe and stay healthy!! Thank you again for all your support during the course of this project. <3

 See you!

“The fifth year, huh,” says Gladio. “The fifth year,” repeats Ignis, and something ugly spreads inside him like a disease. It’s been five years.

Ignis struggles to come to terms with his King’s death even five years after the Dawn returns to Eos.

Thought I should post this in case someone still comes across it even if I’m not that active on tumblr anymore! It’s something I wrote for the beautiful @cosmogonyzine a while back!

Hope everyone is doing well :)

Chapters: 1/1 Rating: General Audiences Relationships: Aulea Lucis Caelum & Noctis Lucis Caelum, Noctis Lucis Caelum & Regis Lucis Caelum Additional Tags: Implied/Referenced Character Death, Emotional Hurt, Hurt/Comfort, Noctis Lucis Caelum-centric, Hurt Noctis Lucis Caelum, Relationship Study, Grief/Mourning, Mommy Issues, Father-Son Relationship, Angst, Fluff, Child Noctis Lucis Caelum, Noctis plays the piano

Summary:

Noctis doesn’t remember his mom, but he remembers a melody, her melody. When he’s scared and alone at night, he sneaks out of his room, seeking out the grand piano in his mom's old chambers. It's one of the few little things she left behind for him.

A little story I wrote a while back that explores Noct’s relationship with his mom and my headcanon about how he learned to play the piano!

I’m not very active in fandom anymore (it’s my stupid work’s fault), but I still thought I should post it at least. I hope everyone is healthy and well!. :)

I feel like it’s an amazing thing that writers often make you fall in love with the main characters or villains and fanfic writers make you fall for them again in different ways and it’s beautiful. Thank you for having this blog, it’s been enlightening and so helpful! ❤️

I think that’s amazing too 😍💗💕

“Writers make you fall in love with characters and fanfic writers make you fall in love with them again” is such a beautiful take on fanfic!

Heartbeats of a Summer Day

It’s been ages since I’ve posted anything on here, I’m so sorry! Life has been hell. But hey, here’s a preview for an upcoming fic of mine! It’s about little Noct learning how to play the piano.

Noctis’s eyes land on the center of the room where it awaits him. He walks towards it and climbs up the bench, the leather crinkling under his weight. His hands find the lid, and he pushes it up. He’s gotten used to the heaviness of the lid, and it always feels like an accomplishment when he manages to hinge it up at last. His eyes find the keys, and he grins.
“I’m back, Toothy,” he says.
Toothy grins back at him with its white, brilliant teeth, welcoming him. With his new friend Toothy, Noctis is always in for a fun time.

The piece was written for the “Regalia Mixtape” FFXV zine, by the way! Preorders will close in a couple days, so feel free to check out the shop! https://theregaliamixtape.bigcartel.com/

Comments on fanfics are important, but so are replies to readers’ comments

I’ve just reblogged another post about how important comments are to writers, but I have some other thoughts about this that I’d like to add.

Comments are wonderful. I don’t think there’s a writer out there who doesn’t like receiving them. They let us know what our readers think of our work, and they motivate us to keep going.

Readers who comment on every chapter of a multi-chapter fic are precious, and I appreciate them so much. I remember them, and it makes me happy to see their feedback. I love talking to them, and every friendship I made in this fandom happened because of this back-and-forth about either my fics or theirs if I had been the one leaving the comments.

But I noticed that there are authors who don’t reply to reviews and comments, and I really think that they are missing out. Not only on that connection with the readers and the possibility to make friends who like the same things, but also on the possibility of getting more feedback on their stories. Sometimes writers say that they feel like they are shouting into the void when they post a chapter, but I think readers can feel the same way when they leave a nice comment, or several nice comments, on a fic and the author doesn’t reply.

Several of my fandom friends have told me that if they get no response from the writer of a fic, they stop commenting. I have to say that I’m much less likely to keep commenting myself if the author ignores their readers. I know some readers don’t really care about this, but I see so many very well written fics by these authors that don’t get the number of comments their stories would deserve, and I can’t help but think that if only they responded to their readers and had a dialogue with them, it would encourage more people to comment on their work.

Even just a simple “Thank you” would show that they are reading the feedback and appreciate it, and it might lead to more communication from the readers.

90% of writing advice can be thrown out the window for your first draft.

Show don’t tell? Ignore.

Basic grammar and punctuation? Unnecessary.

Physical descriptions of characters? Don’t need to bother.

Solid plot? That’s for later.

The words don’t come as fast when you’re thinking of the best way to put them together. It doesn’t have to be pretty, or much more than inconsistent nonsense.  The point is to have it exist.

Effective storytelling is for subsequent drafts! Go write some nonsense!
