anyway starting to see "miku wrote harry potter" type posts again so here's your reminder that JKR's racism, antisemitism, and transmisogyny are threaded through every page of all seven books. pretending otherwise is doing a disservice both to yourself and to the people you're pretending to advocate for

plus all the shit in fantastic beasts: appropriation of native american culture, making nagini an asian woman and also a snake who is voldemort’s pet, putting in a plotline where a black woman becomes a white man’s sex slave and her son is portrayed as unjustified in trying to get revenge, making it so the MAIN VILLAIN is 1. gay and 2. wanted to stop the holocaust and the protagonists.. stop him from stopping the holocaust?? (yeah i have no idea what she was thinking either, fantastic beasts 2 is the worst movie ever made)

and even if you’re like “well these are all bad, and fantastic beasts is bad, but if you take them away the core of the original series is still good!”... that’s not true either! when you look at all the stuff that’s really important to the story, it’s all garbage too. harry potter redeems snape, a misonynist child-abusing stalker. harry potter portrays slytherin as an organization that has both historically and in modern times aligned itself with nazi-allegory fascists, and then says “no slytherin is fine actually and they have good qualities and being a slytherin is okay!” the MAIN PLOT of harry potter is drenched in apologism for all kinds of horribleness.

oh and i just want to mention the house elves “slaves actually like being slaves stop trying to free them” plotline again because what the FUCK was that??

As a young autistic girl (who didn’t know she was autistic at the time), these books really made me happy, they gave me an escape and they gave me hope. Looking back now as an adult, I don’t want to lose that hope and happiness. I want to be able to remember the story I loved with fondness.

But I can’t. It’s impossible now to not see the cracks in the foundation, the thinly veiled bigotry and mockery. Once you remove the rose-tinted glasses and really LOOK at the truth of the matter, you can’t unsee the ugliness.

I admit that I will likely always have a small place in my heart for Harry Potter. Not for all of it, but for the memories and magic and inspiration that comforted me when I was younger. I may read the books again, but not without a great amount of caution and a deeper knowledge of the truth.

trans rights are human rights, and trans people in the uk deserve our voices heard as much as trans americans. jk rowling is not an anomaly, and represents the average british feminist. fighting against terfs requires systematic change, something british trans people not only cant do alone, but something we have to try and do as terfs actively lobby the government to take away our human rights (with there currently being talk of a bill which would cause under 18s to lose the ability to begin transitioning in any form, and a member of the house of lords currently waxing romantically about having trans rights removed in multiple areas)

you have to understand that talking to jk doesn't work. she doesnt care. use your time productively and spread these charities around. dont even reblog this post if you dont want to, make your own. just make it known that trans people in the uk are used to people acting like this, and soon we may not be able to do anything about them at all

okay so the first time I read the harry potter books, my mom read them to me out loud in spanish. you know the part where harry puts the snitch Dumbledore left him in his mouth to reveal the words “I open at the close?” well, I remember being SO confused because the spanish translation of “I open at the close” in the books is “me abro al cierre.” Makes sense, right? Well I, a certified dumbass, thought my mom was saying “me abro EL cierre.” which is all fine and dandy except this roughly translates to “I unzip my pants” which is definitely not the same thing

Notes: If is a different day, I opted to only draw what Tara described of the outfit, if she didn’t mention her make-up or shoes I believe Ebony didn’t wear any.

Unless the fic says explicitly that it’s a different day I tried to keep some of the aspects of the last outfit that Tara didn’t change or didn’t mention. (Like her make-up or shoes).

The little icons that appear in like three of the outfits are the earrings she was wearing that chapter.

Doing this was beyond confusing but fun.

Harry Potter AU in which Fred and George are in different houses and they steal and wear each others ties whilst doing stupid things in hope of the others house losing points

Finally a Fred and George AU that doesn’t make me want to set myself on fire.

AU where Fred and George are in different houses and they get their hands on house ties from the other two houses as well. By the end of their first year nobody knows which house either of them is in and just take points off a random house whenever they see a redhead getting up to something.

The confusion runs so deep by the time Ron starts that Snape once takes points off Slytherin for Ron fighting with Malfoy.

There’s a few months in Fred and George’s second year when they successfully convince most of the school that they’re actually quadruplets, one in each house.

“George! Why are you wearing a Slytherin tie?”

“What? No, I’m Edward. Y'know, Slytherin’s resident Weasley?”

“Wh…huh???”

“Next you’ll be telling me you don’t know Hubert!”

“?????”

After this confusing quadruple mess, a conspiracy theory emerges that Fred and George are actually just one person, and there were never any Weasley Twins. To add fuel to this theory, Fred and George make a point to never be seen together (publicly).

When asked about this theory, Fred/George subtly insinuates that he used Polyjuice Potion so that there could be multiple versions of himself at once. This goes around the Hogwarts Rumor Mill like fire. The Weasley family says nothing to dispute it, not even Percy.

Percy makes polyjuice successfully for the first time in his fifth year, when he finally has sufficient motivation. Fred, George, Edward and Hubert walk into the great hall one morning, identical but for their school ties, and the chaos is so great that nobody realizes Percy and Ron are missing.

Crookshanks was a fantastic kitty and the fact that Crookshanks wasn’t repeatedly praised and doted upon by most of the people who saw him for the entirety of his time spent at Hogwarts is evidence that Rowling doesn’t know how cats work.

McGonagall is the best portrayed cat in the series and she’s not even a cat!

Mrs. Norris was straight up trying to prevent children from committing illegal activities half of the dang time. Most of the times she rats on Harry it’s because he was in the restricted section which had books about freaking how to become immortal through murder so naturally she ratted him out. Also. I can’t believe the irony that Rubeus “acromentulas are misunderstood creatures” Hagrid would straight up dislike cats when Rowling misunderstands all cat behavior the entire franchise.

Apparently Rowling’s reason Hagrid doesn’t like cats is because of a mild cat allergy. Which. You are telling me. Hagrid. The man who deals with poisonous animals on a daily basis. Who has been burned by animals. Who in the books gets all sorts of minor injuries from animals. WOULD DRAW THE LINE AT SNEEZING FOR DISLIKING AN ENTIRE ANIMAL SPECIES.

She just doesn’t like cats and doesn’t want anyone in her books that isn’t a mean person to like cats either.

For a magical world that cats are so integrated into their culture and society that it allows cats to go to boarding school with 11 year old children despite the fact that the cats have no magical properties there is a stunning lack of people who actually will tolerate being near a cat for 10 full minutes.

Someone needs to rewrite the entire series with cats appreciated the way they ahould be.
