Day ??? of quarantine

Today I made the impulsive decision to design a custom deck of cards based on the book Heartless by Marissa Meyer. I have no clue how I plan to have these cards made, but I already started sketching and nothing’s gonna stop me. So far I’ve drawn Catherine and only cried once.

please give updates 😍😍😍

The worst part of reading an AMAZING fantasy book is that I know I’ll hardly find another one that can live up to the expectations I now have

I notice everyone draws catherine and portrays her as skinny. Which is totally fine if that’s how you interpreted her, but let’s be honest she’s got to AT LEAST be curvy. Cause like, all this sweat is a heavier girl thing. And her mom calls her fat so she can’t possibly be too skinny. I mean it’s not a super big problem but i just wanna see more people draw her like that 😔

sometimes it is harder to draw girls with curves, especially for beginners...

but it is said in a few places in the book that she isn't the skinniest gal!! shes an icon tbh

Comic-Con Masquerade Contest: Mandy Pursley, with Ryan Pursley Costume Name: Cinderella…With a Twist! Costume Description: Growing up as an arm amputee, I dreamed of the day when fairy tales would include characters who looked like me too! I came up with the idea of Cinderella trading out her glass slippers for a glass arm, and set to work making this story come to life. I “single-handedly” sewed Cinderella’s dress and Prince Charming’s uniform, and created a way for Cinderella to transform from peasant to princess in a snap! In true Cinderella fashion, the finishing touches were completed by my real-life fairy godfather, Gilbert Lozano, who created the beautiful glass arm. I hope this cosplay inspires others to see their differences as beauty, and to recognize that everyone is worthy of love and adventure! Bio: Mandy Pursley lives in Oceanside, CA, with her real-life Prince Charming, Ryan Pursley. She has been sewing for 10 years, and began getting into the cosplay community six years ago. Recently, Mandy has found a sense of empowerment through incorporating her limb difference into her costumes, cosplaying both familiar amputee characters and re-imagining old favorites. She created Be the Spark Cosplay as a way to showcase her costumes and celebrate others who are using cosplay to break out of the mold! Snow White twist where Snow White is played by a dark-skinned woman with snow white hair

  • another twist: the story focuses on beauty in the context of racial prejudice
  • the stepmother is white and known as the ‘fairest of them all’ but then this girl with dark skin grows to be more beautiful than her and she doesn’t understand and she doesn’t like it and she is threatened by it
  • you can see where this is going

Heartless by Marissa Meyer My rating: 5 of 5 stars “Once I was a lonely Rook upon a distant shore, and I would murder for my queen so we might win a war. Now mine eyes see the heart that once we did search for, and I fear this heart shall be mended nevermore.” Honestly, this was so good I don’t even have words to express how much I love this book. I’ve always loved Alice in Wonderland, I read it when I was a child and then again as an adult, there is something so wonderful about that world that is pure nonsense and unleashed creativity, even the aesthetic of it is just that, wonder. On the other hand I also love Meyer’s fairy tale retellings and the way she manages to keep the concept and infuse it with autenticity. Heartless is just that, the book has all the magic from the original Wonderland stories mixed up with the thrill of a villain’s origin tale.  “In fact,” she continued, scanning the gardens below, “I want all the white roses to be removed before springtime. From now on, the gardeners are to plant only red roses, if they must grow roses at all.” It combines the whimsical, poetic language of Lewis Carroll and detailed descriptions with Meyer’s own style as it follows Catherine, a young noble girl on her path to become the next Queen of Hearts. As we all know, the original character is a villain so you can already guess something terrible must have happened to her; however it is exactly that which makes the book so compelling, Meyer manages to make the transition between heroin and evil queen so subtle you don’t even realize when her mind starts to change. The ending is dark, yet satisfying and completely perfect. I’ll recommend it until the end of my days. View all my reviews

ooof tough battle between jest and cress for my favs but i think jest wins

Between them 2 i would choose Jest as welltho it is difficult. I think my favorite came out to be Cath in the end. Tho it was hard to chose...

Anonymous asked:

After finishing Heartless, can I just say...Cath deserved better...

CATH DESERVED EVERYTHINGi felt so bad for hersome people say that it's an overreaction of hers when she became queen and had Peter killed...but she, a young woman, saw the man she loved and was willing to risk EVERYTHING for, get decapitated. Not just killed. decapitated. That's fairly traumatic. even if you didn't like the person. Cath was such a well-developed character i love her so much...

“The easiest way to steal something is for it to be given willingly.”

I recently read Heartless by Marissa Meyer and I couldn’t have loved it more. It is a beautifully written retelling. (I’m not sure if retelling would be the name for it, more like origins of). So I decided to draw my favorite character from the book: Jest, the Joker/Rook.

Also, I realized that he’s called Jest because he is a Jester, and for what my brother and internet say that’s how the court joker was called. Or it’s another way to say Joker. I don’t know, I’m not a native speaker but it’s kinda like that 😂.

I hope you like my illustration and if you do please like it, it’s pretty welcomed. 😊
