Lol, I thought the Ob/Gyn hours were rough. At least there was plenty of down time to study while patients were in labor. Half the surgeons are out, so the surgeons we follow on my team are getting all the surgeries and most of the consults. For reference, I have classmates regularly leaving 2-3 hours earlier. We also get called in for weekends. I was there Saturday from 7am-5pm and when my classmate who came in Sunday got to leave after just 3 hours. At least the residents are nice and buy us food.

Very excited to sleep after working after doing five 14-hour overnight shifts in a row. Ob/Gyn clerkship is a rough way to start third year but good prep for surgery clerkship + it’s a field I’m interested in, so trying to leave a good impression and get my hands dirty.

After numerous phone calls, the IRS is finally issuing my 2019 tax refund after I filed over a year ago — March 10, 2020 is when they received it. I was missing a document which I sent back in July (because I moved and was never forwarded a letter, and figured pandemic delays so I waited to call) and have followed up at least once a month since. It felt like this day would never come. I want to thank not only God, but Jesus.

I’ve limited my Facebook and deleted Instagram so here’s a snatch that I’m really proud of technique-wise

Early arm bend and need to work on getting low faster, but Olympic weightlifting progress. 45kg (~100lbs) is a new working max for me. Found a pair of Nike Romaleos 2 for just $100 on OfferUp. Much less clunky than the Reebok legacy lifters in the back while also supplying a similar solid base.

An investigation is ongoing in the case of a 9 year old Rochester girl who was pepper sprayed during a mental health episode. Police were called on Friday afternoon after a report that the girl was threatening to harm herself and her mother. The girl resisted being put into a police car to be taken to the hospital, kicking one of the officers. She is seen screaming in bodycam footage before her head is held down against the snow-covered ground and is handcuffed. One of the three officers involved told her she was, “acting like a child,” to which she responded, “I am a child!”

“Later in the video, a female officer is seen talking to the girl, eventually saying, “This is your last chance, otherwise pepper spray’s going in your eyeballs.” About a minute later, another officer can be heard saying, “Just spray her at this point.” The female officer is seen shaking a can that appears to be pepper spray and the child continues to scream.” Officers then pepper sprayed her and left her crying in the back seat as they took her to Rochester General Hospital and soon released.

How do we reform a group of supposed public servants who seem nearly immune to consequences? This isn’t how you treat anyone experiencing a mental health emergency, and especially not a nine year old child. How will this little girl grow up in a world where the people who are supposed to protect her are violent towards her when she needs help?

all of us have been unlearning problematic things - it’s really malicious and in bad faith to purposefully dig up old posts by someone that do not reflect their current opinions and attack them over it out of context

Go get rid of your old terrible posts then. If I eat something I don’t keep the wrapper around. I get rid of it.

I have nearly 50,000 posts on my Tumblr blog which I have been running since 2011. It is literally impossible for me to sift through all of that for every single “problematic” post just for fear of some jerk dredging up something I said eight years ago.

And honestly? I shouldn’t anyway. You can literally make the opposite argument: that it’s wrong to hide your past. If we all keep pretending that ideological purity is possible and erasing the journeys we’ve gone though to learn from mistakes and become better, more educated people I feel like that does more harm than good.

Anyway, your attitude is victim blaming. We should not normalize a culture of fear where everyone is desperate to hide their flaws because someone might start a harassment campaign against them. The solution is ending that culture, not saddling people with the burden of dealing with it.
