That’s right, y’all! SKAM Fic Love Fest 2018 - AKA our humble attempt at kickstarting some fic appreciation in the SKAM fandom - starts in just a week, and we’re so incredibly excited to start spreading some much needed love around the fandom!

Six sentence Sunday - 8/12

“Do you remember the first time you tried to do this for me?” Even’s voice was low, hint of a smile coloring the edges of his words. “It was our first New Year’s Eve together, I think. It took you at least three tries.”

“I don’t know what you’re talking about,” Isak said, keeping his voice as level as he could. “I just remember doing a flawless job.”

He tightened the knot he’d made and folded the collar down around the tie. He could just feel the ridge of Even’s collarbone under the fabric of his shirt, before his hands dropped down to his sides.

Even brought a hand to his neck, running his fingers along the places Isak had touched moments before. “In the end,” he agreed. “And just now, too. You’ve really come a long way.”

Isak looked up, the way Even’s eyes ensnared him almost immediate. They were close, closer than he’d anticipated. He hadn’t stepped back yet, though he maybe should have.

(Not that he’d ever had a good idea of what should have really meant, when it came to Even.)

“So have you,” Isak said.

the thing about that almost kiss is that there was so much build up, so much leading up to it. it wasn’t casual, it wasn’t random. it was weeks in the making

i think in the previous episode, when they were hanging out at even’s place, isak let himself believe that something might happen. because he assumed even was single. and i think he let himself assume that even was interested in boys, and in him (he wouldn’t let himself think about that too much, not explicitly, but that seed was planted in his head) because, yeah, there was something there. but then sonja came. and isak had snapped back to reality. and this idea of what he and even were and could be that was starting to grow in his mind fell apart. and from that moment on, isak couldn’t assume anything, couldn’t let himself assume anything. he couldn’t let himself get his hopes up 

so even comes to the pre-grame. he comes with sonja. boyfriend and girlfriend. okay. but then, the call your girlfriend scene happens, and even looks at him like that and it’s back, the feeling that there is something there. there is definitively something there. but then it’s over, the music is over. even is still looking at him but he’s getting ready to leave. with his girlfriend. and once again isak can’t let himself just assume things. he doesn’t know what’s going through even’s mind, and at that point isak isn’t certain or confident enough to just confront him about what is happening

and then even joins isak in the kitchen. and isak is genuinely surprised by it because he thought even was going to leave with sonja and emma. and isak didn’t want to take a taxi with the three of them because that was definitively not something he could handle right now. he thought he would have to join them later, and spend the rest of the evening with emma, the girl he was not interested in, keeping up this facade, and once again be confronted with the fact that even had a girlfriend. and he needed to be away from that for a while. or he probably was thinking of excuses to skip the party. but none of that matters in the end. because in the end even is here, in his kitchen. they are alone

and there is so much going through isak’s mind at that point, but mainly what is he doing. even didn’t leave the apartment with sonja, but there he is talking about the fact that they’ve been together for years, telling isak that they’re drifting apart but he can’t leave her. and isak is thinking why is he telling me this. and i think at that point isak is hurt, and confused and frustrated. it’s all so much but he can’t say anything. it’s all bottled up. he’s tense

but then even makes that stupid joke about sonja’s aluminium leg and he’s laughing and teasing isak and their whole dynamic from the previous week is back and isak can’t resist it. he really likes even, he likes him so much. but he can’t do anything about it. in that moment, isak is powerless, and vulnerable. so he stands there, looking down, not making a move. so even makes the move. even takes the lead and is about to seal the deal. finally. but then noora comes. and it doesn’t happen

the thing is that it doesn’t matter, really, in the grand scheme of things. the act itself doesn’t happen. their lips don’t touch. but the intention was there, from both parts. even expressed unspoken words. i want to kiss you. and isak agreed. i want you to kiss me

there’s something about even’s little nod in this scene 

because even knows. he’s not oblivious, he notices the way isak reacts to his presence, to him. he’s been noticing him for weeks, weeks before they first met. he saw the way isak was when he came over to his place the previous week, he saw the look in his eyes, the light in his eyes, he saw the way he smiled and laughed, he noticed the changes in his voice. he probably memorized his facial expressions and the things he said last friday. kept replaying them in his mind every single day, in class, before going to bed, when he was with other people 

earlier in that episode, when he came to give isak his snapback, in a matter of seconds, he understood that isak hadn’t told his friends he had gone to his place, he understood that he didn’t want them to know. because he sees and understands. he remembered the cardamom on the cheese toasties five weeks later, how they were sitting on the floor of his room as they ate them, he remembered isak saying he had a drop of water in his throat, he remembered isak talking about parallel universes. because he pays such close attention to isak and the way he looks and moves and speaks and all the things he says

do you think that even, who saw this boy on the first day of school, who was probably looking forward to seeing him even when it was just at school, in public, in rooms and hallways with other students, would not notice how isak was acting? notice the way he’s been looking at him the moment he showed up at his place for the pregame? the way he starred at him when he kissed sonja and looked at him straight in the eyes? how tensed he was as he told him about sonja and how they’d been together for years? the intonation of his voice as he said his okay’s (been together since we were 15. okay. can’t dump her. okay). do you think that even who’s been desperately trying to spend time alone with this boy he was falling for would not notice the smile that spread all over isak’s face when he realized that even was messing with him, the smile he was trying to stop it, in vain? do you think he would not sense his attraction to him? the vulnerability?

of course even notices. and since he came to see isak in his kitchen, he’s only been kidding, pretending not to be serious. but with that little nod, he grows more serious. with that little nod, it’s like he’s saying i see you, i see it, i’ve seen you for a while. it’s reassuring. it’s okay. it’s understanding. i know, isak. i know. me too
