Ah, this fic feels like going to therapy~ And the relationship between these two is developing nicely there~ I love it!

“I’m not napping,” Harry mumbled, his face still pressed to the floor. “I’m thinking.”

“Salazar help us,” Draco muttered, walking around Harry’s prone body. Out of the corner of his eye, a bit blurrily, Harry watched as Draco lay beside him. “And what, pray tell, is so difficult to ponder that it requires a lie down?”

Harry took a deep breath, very much considered lying, closed his eyes, and said, “Love.”

Excerpt: “All I’m saying—I mean, could you just…” Ron held his hands up, a half-shrug. “I dunno, shag him already?”

Harry must have misheard him. “Shag?”

“Well, not here. Obviously.”

“Shag,” he repeated just to be sure.

Ron nodded again, nonchalant.

“Totally mental—shagging”—Harry swallowed, thinking thoughts he should not be thinking—“that’s not—me and—no, no, no—”

Ron rolled his eyes. “All this”—he waved his hand between Harry and Draco—“flirting is putting me off my lunch.”

Flirting?

No longer stammering, and suddenly furious, Harry crossed his arms and said, “We’re not flirting. We’re fighting.”

It was Ron’s turn to snort. “Same difference with you two.”

there is a genocide happening in palestine. this genocide is being perpetrated by the illegitimate, colonial, fascist state of israel, and aided by every single major western power.

as someone born in the war in bosnia, i want to make one thing clear: every time that the world has let something like this happen over the past 70 odd years, it's allowed it to happen to muslims. bosnia, rohingyas, uygurs, palestinians, countless others. there is empathy in all places as long as they aren't muslim.

i urge you to examine your immediate reactions to a woman in a hijab or the words allahu akbar. i urge you to examine what narratives you've been exposed to even inadvertently.

i promise you muslims are just regular people. our families fight and rejoice and cry in the same ways as yours. we can grow up to be bad or good just like you can. if they kill all of us we won't get the chance to rewrite the story that's been written for us, against us, in our place. please don't let them keep killing us.

fandom is political. love is political. don't underestimate what being open and explicit can do.

It has been hard for me to talk about how what is going on with Israel and Palestine is affecting me personally, but I grew up in Gaza and most of my family still lives there. My father did not survive the bombings last week and I have not been able to contact my younger sister in days. I am try to being understanding that most people do not have personal connections to what is happening and therefore are justifying their silence, but is heartbreaking to see this misinformation being spread. What’s happening there is a genocide, not a war. It is not antisemitic to support Palestine, it’s not even antiemetic to criticise Israel. There is no grey area or neutrality regarding this, and it is so easy to find resources that will educate you on the subject. It is my people and my home being destroyed so I will never be silent about this, but I please urge everyone to get informed and start speaking up and finding ways they can help.

When I first started dating @saintgarbanzo he told me about this Palestinian cookbook he loved and I went and bought it that same day. It told stories of the people living there.

A man ground tahini slowly, by hand, so the seeds wouldn’t get scared. Scared tahini splits.

A woman collected seeds into a library and told school children to be proud that they gave the world wheat.

Restaurant owners refused to discuss politics, saying everyone was welcome in their establishments. Some didn’t, and sat down and said how hard sourcing ingredients has been with Israel controlling their food supplies.

People who have lived and died on that land for centuries, who have dreams and passions and hopes.

The people who gave me recipes that I fell in love to.

I don’t want to lose them. I don’t want this world to lose them. A whole beautiful culture and history, facing a nuclear superpower hellbent on destroying them.

I don’t believe in a god but tonight I’m trying to.

FFWAD: Licurici by LouisFake

It's Fanfic Writer's Appreciation Day! I'm so delighted to have been able to participate this year, and I bound a couple books--I'll be posting them throughout the day. The first is Licurici, an amazing Harry Potter fanfic by @lou-isfake told primarily from Charlie Weasley's point of view. It's Charlie/Harry/Draco, and louisfake makes watching their characters and relationship develop over time a delight to read. And when I read it, I immediately knew I wanted to do something with dragon scales for the cover.

I bound two copies, one for myself and one for the author. One is bound in a black mohair with gold flecks. I didn't have quite enough for two copies, though, so the other is in Graphite Colibri. The fore-edge on both books is a latex-infused fake reptile leather from Neenah papers, trimmed to follow the line of the scales. The other cover decorations are red foil or gold HTV.

I had a lot of fun painting the edges, creating an ombre effect with acrylic paint and then using gold paint pens to suggest fireflies.

The endpapers on this are a little unusual--they're flocked paper, so the really dark black has a velvet texture. I also had a lot of fun typesetting this fic--it has a complicated structure, layering dated sections, chapters, parts, and interludes.

A daffodil, from thin air, your cheeks dimpled and flushed. You kneel beside me, reverent, the epitome of devotion. I hold you, the shade of an ancient oak protecting us both.
